Unless Ajose actually scores, which he does quite often, he is anonymous in games. Obika, even though he doesn't rack up as many goals, is a much more effective player. Great combo, though.

It seems funny that despite probably ending the season with the best defensive record, that we'll have no one in the team of the season in those positions. Jaaskelainan didn't play in the first 10 games, so that no doubt takes him out and Pearce and James have both had lengthy spells injured when they would have no doubt made it. Jacobs in midfield is another who looked a certainty for this but 2 months out with injury now has killed off his chances.

Chris McCann, Max Power will be in it from us, McCann is a class act and has played in about 4 positions for us this season, was one of the best midfielders in The Championship until his fractured knee cap kept him out of action for while, which is the only reason he's dropped down to League One with us. Grigg is a possibility but I'd say Ajose edges him out right now. Wildschut will miss out too has he only signed a quarter of the way through the season. Arguably the best player in the division but hasn't played enough games.

I doubt any team will have more than 2 players in it.

I've kept an eye on Jacobs since he left us. Terrific player with both feet. I'd have him back now.

Apart from Dacko, the best footballer I've seen is Samuelsen of Peterborough, or doesn't he count as he's on loan fro West Ham?

Jack Payne at Southend impressed me on Saturday.

Definitely a contender.

Also Bentley their keeper, if he learnt to catch instead of punch everything.

Surprised Bentley got a mention from a Gills fan after your equaliser at your place..
Bentley is class but too many errors this year would keep him out the 'team of the year.'
Payne could contend but there are better players in his position ie Dack. Next year will be the year he really makes a name for himself, gone under the radar a little bit till now this season.

Would give a mention to Ryan Leonard in CM. One of those players you don't think a great deal of till they get injured and your form goes to absolute shite and you realise how decent they are and there's a reason why the manager has him as the first name on the teamsheet every. Certainly not team of the year quality but one of the better players, again he's only young (23) and will make more of a name for himself next season.

Don't rate Bentley, keep hearing good things but everytime I've seen him play live or on TV he's looked dodgy. He can't catch!

I agree that his catching, or lack of it, it his weak link but he is a very good shot stopper and just strikes me as one of those keepers who could be very good given time and good coaching.

Jack Payne could be a possible, fairly cheap, replacement for Dack if he goes in the summer.

He reminds me a lot of Gazzaniga. Clearly got some potential, but also clearly has some gaping holes in his game. No doubt he's a good keeper on his day, it just seems that I haven't seen any of his good days!

I rate Ben Garratt higher than Bentley, both are quality young keepers but Garratt is just on another level from what I have seen IMO.

Our only sort of claim is Madden on the RW, he's played most of this season out there like last so he could be considered. Other than that, our players are shit.

Even though we are beyond terrible out keeper Ben Garratt has to be in with a shot. usually muakes 2 or 3 saved a game he doesn't have a right to make. destined for much bigger and better things than our hapless pathetic club.

Whenever we have a game vs Crewe it actually ends up being Walsall vs Ben Garratt, so he has to win the keeper of the year. I dread to think how many Crewe may have conceded vs us in the game this season if it wasn't for him.
