Mowbray now saying no strikers for at least a week, ffs

Sky Blues are currently short in attack but Mogga is 'pretty confident' the club will be bolstered by the start of new campaign

Coventry City boss Tony Mowbray admits his bid to draft in new strikers is slow going but he remains optimistic that he’ll get his targets over the line before the big kick-off against Wigan Athletic on August 8.

“It will come and I’m sitting here pretty confident. It might take another week or so but that’s OK."

If anything, that sounds positive.

Sounds like we've offered trialist keeper Dave Richards a deal. Apparently like we'll be getting an answer from him early next week. Also finding out about Stephen Kingsley on loan from Swansea at the same time. Hopefully it's good news, time is running out to find a LB and we have nobody that can play there currently.

Also need to get a shift on with signing an extra CB, need someone in before the season starts.

Swear Rich Sharpe mentioned earlier that he expected Tate to be a Crewe player next season, could it be possible that we're getting two CBs?

Come again? Richards(GK), Kingsley(LB) and Tate/an experienced CB are the only players we're currently targeting I think. Where do you get the idea we're looking for 2 CBs from?

Oh and I see Chesterfield are like a carcass being picked clean at the moment. They've accepted a bid from Hull for Sam Clucas, so it looks like he is off shortly. Wonder if they'll cave in and sell Darikwa too?

Chronicle said we're after a CB on loan from a Championship club. If the player is a young player then I can see us signing both as the young lad we'd be paying him fuck all and he'd add more depth to our injury prone backline.

Obviously if the Championship player is experienced, we'll probably end up with a misfit like Adam El-Abd or Ant Gerrard.

It does, but we've got two tough opening games and if we're not ready we could easily get off to a rocky start. Fully trust Mowbray to bring in the right players but I'd much prefer if we had a more settled squad going into the start of the season.

Gillingham were at the lower end of L1. Lower L1/L2 isn't all that different.

Since when was 12th lower end? The team we have now would take apart the team that won League 2 for us a couple of years ago IMO.

It's good to have such a young and physically capable squad this year. Our oldest outfield player is Cody at 29, and that vast majority of the squad is under 25, yet have mostly had decent amounts of first team experience either here or elsewhere. The future is bright!

Absolute fire sale at Chesterfield this off-season. Clucas to Hull for £1m+ is pretty much a done deal, Darikwa has handed in a transfer request and is likely to go in the next few days I'd have thought and MK Dons are making bids for Morsy and he may go. Roberts already gone... this is going to be a horrible season. Every time we look like doing something we take 3 steps back

Chesterfields Debt mounting and the chairman wants out. With all these players gone and Dean Relegation saunders in charge it will be good to see chesterfield come crashing down once again.

Debt is not 'mounting'. It just takes a while to pay back £13 million. But buying players for £70k and selling them on a year later for over a million helps..

I just hope we get some replacements in quick or this seasons gonna suck

To be fair to Chesterfield, a £1m return on Sam Clucas after a year is an amazing deal.

Apparently £1.3m for Clucas. It's never enjoyable when (another) one of your better players is sold but actually in this case, for that amount of money, the club don't have a choice to make, it's a good move for the player and a very good price for the club.

Good to see Mansfield fans dribbling with excitement about our "misfortune" yet as is often the case, the joke is on them. We're selling a player for over a million pounds for a player they sold to us 10 months ago for about 70k. LOL.

No idea what's going on in regards to Darikwa but we've supposedly enquired about Sam Morsy as well.

Seems Mansfield have a sell on which will see them receive around £150k-£200k. Doesn't seem like anyone got shafted here.

From their point of view, it represents some good business. They signed him for free, had him for a year and have now made around £250k-£300k on him.

From your point of view, same deal. Years work, small investment, large profit. However, Sean Taylor reckons 70% of what you keep will go towards reducing debt, leaving you with around £250k to spend on new players. Not all that much.

Wonder what would've happened if Mansfield didn't throw money about when we almost signed him...

Couldn't have seen him come good under Davis though mind.

Strike force sorted now with Sharp and Sammon, although neither massively inspire me. Just need a couple of CBs now and to get a few off the wage bill.

No outgoing rumours yet and only CB linked is Harlee Deen

Some shite Twitter account said that we're gonna sign Georgios and now half our fans are treating it like something that could actually happen

Nathan Clarke was at our friendly today. I think that could be a decent signing.

You will do alot worse than Clarkey, but also alot better.

He was an excellent captain in his 3 years with us, his first two seasons with us he was decent - Even if he does lack a yard or two of pace, but his form dramatically dipped last season as we was in freefall, although he wasn't the only one who suffered from our situation last season and ended up playing poorly.

His best days IMO are behind him, but play him in a good team and you'll get his best form out of him again I reckon.

He says it was family reasons for leaving us, but he signed a contract extension only 16 months ago. I think he just got fed up working for a bunch of retards behind the scenes, who we currently have running us.

Good Luck to him though, he was an excellent captain for us.

We've offered former Bristol City goalkeeper Dave Richards a contract to be our backup GK.

Stephen Kingsley and Swansea will decide on a loan switch or not in the next couple of days.

And we should have a CB in the side for the Chester friendly. I hope to god it's Alan Tate but you just know Dull Davis will sign a young CB on loan with limited experience.
