We had Enda Stevens the season before last for a while when Sheehan was injured. He was alright, solid, not a lot more.

Richard O'Donnell has said his thanks and goodbyes on Twitter this morning. Said it's his hardest decision in football but it's based around his family and future - finances and location I would presume. Sad to see him go, but I never rated him as highly as some. Good keeper, had a very dodgy first season but grew to be excellent last season and deserves his shot on better money and potentially at a club who will take his career further.

Between us and Doncaster some reporter has said on Twitter, the rest more speculation apparently.

Seen Forest and Reading linked too, he's a Northerner though so I'd suggest it's quite likely. He will probably get paid more too. Although, I'm surprised he hasn't had any offers from the lower end of the Championship.

According to a Nottingham post journal writer, we're very interested in signing Sam Clucas.

Never gonna happen though.

No offence (especially towards you, CFC's number one fan :) ) but that's... odd, why would you even bother?

Worth a shot I suppose, Swann has big plans for us and wants to bring in quality players.

It will never happen we all know that.

Fair play to Swann being a middle of the road entrepreneur but managing to marry the granddaughter of the bloke who founded Wilkos.

Scunny poached the CEO of one of the worst ran clubs in League 1 last season, excuse me for not jumping aboard any hype train.

Apparently between us and Bury for Plymouth's out of contract Lewis Alessandra. Meh, remember him from Oldham. No thanks.

We've been linked with him for the last two summers. He's from around this way so that's hopefully the only reason he's linked with us. Never really been impressed with him.

We've been linked with Jamie Ness from Stoke...

I know fuck all about him other than he doesn't seem to have pulled up many trees on loan to Crewe.

For about 6 weeks he and Ajose were pretty much unplayable and seemed to have an almost telepathic link up, but bar that he's very average, I'm not sure I'd have him back here, so certainly not good enough for PNE imo.

Fair enough, although i've got to the stage where i'm not taking much notice of what players have done in the past. Tranmere fans weren't bothered to see John Welsh go, Tom Clarke was 'injury prone' and 'probably better in midfield', Beckford was 'lazy', Kilkenny was the worst player ever...

That's the first rumour of the summer, probably won't happen and will be the first of loads of horse shit.

Chesterfield's asking price is supposedly way ahead of what we're willing to offer for him.

Richard O'Donnell has signed for Wigan on a 3 year deal. Good signing for them and a great deal for him no doubt.

O'Donnell and Perkins are very underwhelming signings for a team looking for an immediate return to the Championship, especially when they're still receiving parachute payments.

Bidding would start at £750k+ for Clucas surely? He may not be statistically overwhelming, but it's what he's worth to Chessie's team and style of play that adds to his price from their perspective.

O'Donnell's been a very good league 1 keeper, if they go up next season and he performs like he did for us, he will be worth the 3k a week just for the season and to then be cheap back up in the Championship IMO.

Quite a lot more than we could offer and most teams according to local journalist on Twitter

He doesn't strike me as a top end League One signing but we will see.

Starting to think that Wigan might not have the sort of spending power I was expecting them to have.

Maybe not, but if they've 'blown' Bradford out the water on him, then he won't have come cheap for a league 1 player. He was probably a top 3 or 4 keeper in the League last season. He had games like he did in the 1st half of the JPT at you're place about 10-15 times last season.

I guess it was down to Wigan being a bigger club.

At the end of the day Wigan are not Wolves.

Wolves are a club with a huge fanbase that can support and sustain top division football. Wigan have been increasingly reliant on Dave Whelan's cash and that has distorted their true level. Wigan have sold all their major assets over the last 12 months and that money has obviously gone back into Whelan's pocket given he's probably spent £100 million on the club in his lifetime.

The Premier League days for Wigan are well and truly over, cost cutting and austerity will see them as a lower Championship/upper League One club at best, irrespective of the parachute payments which, I suspect, are to alleviate any debt owed to Whelan accumulated during the Premier League years as opposed to the Blackburn approach of spunking your parachute payments on Jordan Rhodes in a half-arsed effort to get back in the Prem.

Hence the signature of average League One players on generous contracts, they will still outspend the majority of the league, but not to the extent that Wolves did two years ago.
