So Hull are spending £400k on a player from Rangers.

Salary cap?

Who actually checks the clubs to see if they are complying with the cap?

Most of their players are probably classed as a divisional average so they'll have room to spend it, in theory (based on some assumptions).

Do they? They have 22 players of which 5 weren't with them last year - taking out the £400k fee (which to be fair, may not be payable over this season only), they have probably £500k remaining for those 5 players. :dk:

Do fees come out of the cap, though? I very much doubt it.

That sort of fee would be commensurate with about £5k pw I reckon.

As you say, the other 17 will be at a divisional average rate of £1.3k(?) a week, not, say, £2.2k (£2.5m / 22 players / 52 weeks), which is a difference of just over £800k (£2.2k - £1.3k = £900 x 17 players x 52 weeks).

£400k over 5 players would still be above a divisional average. Of course, it also depends on the age of the next signings. U21's don't count towards the cap.

Everything is under the cap - basic wage, bonuses, loyalty and relocation fees, termination costs, pensions, NI, insurance, medical, agent fees, transfer fees. Hence why I can’t get the numbers to add up.

That means £400,000 is about equal to 3 players. Ridiculous.

Who is going to audit clubs? Players will be getting Nigerian passports to confirm they are only 18.

Signed Josef Bursik on loan from Stoke for the season so that’s another U21 in the bag

Sounds like they're using the furlough money they get off the government to a player, nice .

Was our youth team keeper and had been with us since he was 9 but Stoke hoovered him up when they were in the premier league. Good move for his development if he starts.

We have a highly rated goalkeeper in Louis Jones but he’s never played a League game, Bursik will definitely start but given they are both very young I expect they will share the workload

Seems many clubs are padding their squads out with young players - obviously to get round the restrictions.

I *think*, and I stand to be corrected, you can reinvest any player sale money and that sits outside the cap when spent but you still have to adhere to the salary cap.

So if you are at the limit of the salary cap, sell a player for £1m and he was on £3k/week, you can spend £1m on another player but can only offer him a maximum of £3k/week.

If accurate, it rather suggests that a better solution would have been to adopt a cap that reflects revenue (albeit a better policed one than before). It's very... Confusing.
