Who have you lost? Except for Twine

The centre half who’s name escapes me went to Swansea and Kasumu who I thought was excellent in the few games I saw him play also went to Huddersfield. Parrott will also be a miss, he was on fire towards the end of the season.

Twine, Darling and Kasumu were big permanent players for us, while we had 5 or 6 important loanees over the course of the season that needed replacing. Thankfully we’ve brought back Robson and Cumming from those loanees and we’ve added some real quality this summer. We’re still at least 5 or 6 players short though.

No need to call me Darling.

Dawson Devoy seems to be back on, along with Louie Barry on loan from Villa who is apparently having a medical tomorrow. Two excellent bits of business.
Barry was way too lightweight for this league with us. Clearly had talent but physically he was just nowhere near the level. We even sent him back early because he wasn’t making the bench.

You also managed to mess up Parrott and Fraser who were excellent for us…

Perhaps in your opinion. But I can only tell you the truth and that is that not a single Ipswich fan would swap Walton for any other keeper in this league, nor half the championship
if he was that good your 2-11 must have been shocking !!

I liked Fraser. But for whatever reason he was unfit (assume he got a knock in pre season). Genuinely can’t remember a game where he wasn’t blowing out his arse by the 65th minute. Real shame.

Parrott was just in a really bad team. Didn’t pull up any trees but also was an alright player when he got a chance. Came to us as a bad time though with our season dead or dying when he arrived. Wasn’t a player we went back for anyway but better than most of the loanees we had that season (and there was a lot). Then obviously we had our takeover and our targets changed.

Since McKenna came in, I think you’ll find Walton kept a club record number of clean sheets in succession AND we didn’t concede in 13 of his first 19 matches. The defence and goalkeeper was never the problem under McKenna. Scoring was.

My opinion, the stats. Either one say the same story.
The stats show your lad had 14 clean sheets in 45 games (a percentage of 31%). It shows Walton has the exact same number in 34 games (41%).

Half of those games were for Gillingham so not really a fair gage when playing in a relegation threatened team. When you look at all the save metrics as well as limit the CS% to when he was here, Cumming was definitely higher.

I also think he is a decent keeper despite conceding 7 goals against us last season
Thought the lad at Portsmouth was head and shoulders the best keeper last season

Goalkeeper is always one of them positions people say their team has the best etc. Without seeing them in every game nobody can really say for sure. Sometimes stuff like clean sheet percentage isn’t the best metric. Last season we had Tomas Holy on loan and while his GA record looked decent on paper almost every time there was something for him to do the ball seemed to go under him.

Some of that defending against you at our place was just painful. The Cook era seemed to involve no actual defending. Even that day Walton was our best player and kept it down to 5!

I can’t say much on the Pompey keeper tbh though as I didn’t go to the midweek game at Fratton Park when we scored 4. Though he did have a howler for one of the goals when trying to dribble it out from the back and losing possession.

Yeah Holy was not good for us either. I liked the bloke (did a fair chunk of charity/community stuff) but just not a good keeper unfortunately

So when you say the stats proved it, what you actually meant was only the stats you specify and not the ones that disprove your argument. And we’re ignoring half of the season here too?

I mean it was a semi serious post in the first place that you’ve jumped on. But Cumming save % wise aka the only stat that’s actually about the goalkeeper alone is one of the best in the league and better than Walton’s in both his Gillingham spell and his MK spell last season.

I’ve not jumped on anything. I’m just saying that Walton is undoubtedly better IMO. You suggested he was the best in the league. I’m just suggesting Walton is better. That’s all.

As someone said above though, it’s hard to really prove this either way. You’re going for stats. I’ve got stats proving my point. Neither really says who is better.

But I do promise that no Town fan in the league would swap Walton for anyone else at this level. I suppose 25,000 a week of us could be wrong but we do rate him highly.

Yeah came across as a really nice chap and to be fair to him he has the biggest kick I’ve ever seen. Cleared the length of the pitch without trying. Unfortunately and more importantly all any team had to do was hit the target along the ground and because he was so big he couldn’t get down in time.
