Well i dont think much will change either way ,ive been out of it for fourteen years im glad to say
Good luck to you you have been gone for the most depressing 14 years of my life.
Trust me those that still live here deserve a change.

No idea on parachute payments anymore, pretty sure they still exist all the way to getting relegated from L2 though.

Yeah I think they still do exist (although the EFL want to scrap them) but actually working out what teams get is beyond me.

The money teams in the Championship get (solidarity payments et al) compared to what teams in League one get is quite an increase so presumably any PP is pretty generous

Bacchus was someone I picked out last year based on his stats as an ideal replacement for Leonard before Leonard came back on loan anyway. Think he'd be a great signing for Mansfield based on his numbers (obviously, sight unseen).

I'm a self-confessed Appere fan, I like his work rate, I think his ability on the ball technically is underated, his aerial ability is non existance and his XG suggests his main issue is that he's never in a good position to have a scoring chance, but he's young and relatively cheap. He wasn't going to be 1st choice, but easily a option with potential to develop, so I'll sad if he goes especially as it means we have no strikers on the books if he doesn't take up the contract.

Is this why Rotherham keep relegating themselves?

I’m torn on Appere. The description of him as a ‘star forward’ has raised plenty of eyebrows as he splits opinion massively.

11 in 63 in L2, 6 in 37 in L1 is a poor goal scoring record and his finishing is bottom end L2 level, always wanting that extra touch to set up the perfect chance and quite often blowing promising opportunities.

Work rate wise he’s unreal, presses people to death and I think we’d really miss that. However, he’s nowhere near the level a promotion seeking side need but would fit at a Stevenage type side where it’s all work rate and harrying defenders. Wouldn’t be too fussed if he left but the more we have to replace the less confident I become.
Was Simpson rated at Northampton? Good enough for this level? I know the goal record looks poor but no idea how he played.

Yeah, used to be £750k first season and then half that in the second I think (not sure if that figure also included grants for the youth system, though).

Pretty sure it changed in the mid-2010's to £700k over two seasons. Prior to that parachute payments also used to include PL money but they did away with that. It was framed that EFL parachute payments were increasing, but it was the EFL payments towards the parachute payments that were increasing - the overall package was way down.

Been a few more TV deals since we were in the abyss, mind, so it's probably all changed again!

EDIT - Again, new TV deals since then but relegated Championship to L1 and L1 to L2 sides used to be around a 10-12% payment for one season from the division they've been relegated from.

He had a really odd season, he plays the opposite to how he looks, his acceleration is fantastic yet his hold up place is not great, pathetic in the air also, does not even attempt to win a header. Has body language that can make him look lazy at times also.

Would be much better suited to a team that were playing through balls for him to use his pace which most defenders were not a match for, clearly strong lad also when he used his body correctly. I think he is a decent finisher but we didnt create a huge amount of chances for our main striker.

He was forced to do the hard yards for us, chasing lost causes and harrying defenders which at first he just wasnt doing. He started off really poorly and clearly fell out of favour with the manager and fans alike, then around Christmas it started to click and everyone took to him. Fell off again at the end of the season though.

Considering his physical gifts and his young age I think he still has a lot of upside but with obvious floors still in his game. If you can utilise his pace I think he will definitely get goals, if you use him as a target man then he will struggle. Clearly has potential but dont think a team like ours is likely to see the best of him.

Linked to Will Mannion from Cambridge. Quite underwhelming but assuming he’d be coming in as a second choice option

Very good keeper. Why are you underwhelmed?

It always amuses me when fans from other parts of the country assume all northern towns a complete shitholes.

The fact is because of underfunding from this government our town centres have deteriorated for the last 14 years but there are still some attractive places in the town.

Also they don't realise the surrounding area is quite scenic, 70% of Rotherham Borough is rural.
Reminds me of Aldershot fans singing that "we pay yaww benefits" song last season. (Turns out their unemployment rate is a fair bit higher than ours)

Anyway back on topic, looks like we're bidding for Fevrier from Colchester. Tricky left-footer who loves a dribble.

He had a purple patch around Christmas where we got him putting a shift in with box to box runs, and can put in a few passes with a big of quality, but spent a lot of time on the pitch not affected the game and really lacked physicality. On his form over the course of the year, he'd struggle to be 1st choice in a mid-table League 1 club.

IDK seems to be pretty certain that Appere has gone, but not announced anywhere yet so not sure who to.

I agree with all Lord Jord said…not sure I’d have him back

Bags and bags of potential, but is certainly culpable of trying to beat his man more times than need be. He started last season brilliantly, but quietened down a bit for a few months mid-season - I guess that is to be expected in a youngster's first full season, particularly as teams started to work him out.

Think he may have played more minutes for us than anybody else last season too so a bit of fatigue may have set in, but he looked like he was starting to deliver more of an end product in the last few weeks of the season too.

I'm no fan of Stockport as a town myself but compared to Aldershot it's palatial. Aldershot is probably the worst place in England I've ever been to after Luton and the shopping centre there was half empty in 2011 so god knows how bad it is now! Horrific place. A small minority of South Eastern based people seem to think being from the South East = Automatic Prosperity and that simply isn't the case.

As for Fevrier I said if we went up I'd love for us to sign him because he was Colchester's best player by a mile when we played them at home last year. Very fast and caused us a lot of problems, just a shame for them that their forwards had very little end product that day.

It’s nothing to do with it being Cambridge, was very happy when we signed Lloyd Jones. We’re off the back of a season with two sub par inexperienced keepers so we are in desperate need of an experienced keeper and a 26 year old who has 29 games in 3 seasons in league one under his belt isn’t that.

Yes I’ve only seen him play once and he was good and I’ll take your word for it, I’m just wary after how poor Isted was for us this season after one good half season at Barnsley. I’d have hoped we were in for someone with a bit more experience and a history of consistently good performances at this level.

Appere signs for Stevenage... I suspect the club are quite hurt at that, they saw Appere as a project and he leaves just as he is about to hit his peak in age. He had bulked up a lot from when he first joined and was improving year on year. He rejected an offer wanting money that would have made him the highest paid player at the club, which they obviously didnt see him as. Stevenage still spending big post Evans.

Pretty disappointed at losing him and McWilliams.

Pretty surprising that the club actually said that "but the club couldn’t reach an agreement as the requested level of contract would have made Appere the highest paid player at the club".

Im not fussed, we are not even in the same ball park of offers as I think he is a squad player at best. Despite his bulking up he was still bullied off the ball far too easily, think thats a huge overpay for Stevenage, but is a bit of a reminder that our budget appears to be pretty bargain basement at the moment.

Definite whispers about the budget being crap - but again Appere isn’t worth what he wanted. Concerned we’ve got a few holes to fill already.

It's going to be crap because we don't have an owner that likes big deficit funding between income and wages unlike most, and even if we had another year like last tear with Sixfields 90% full every game, attendances would only put us 18th in the table with the teams coming up from League 2. Sixfields just makes it impossible to make us competitive, because the number of seats can't accomodate what would be required to make us a mid-table League 1 club.

Don't think we'll be the only team in this position, Exeter etc will be without funding to allow them to pay much higher wages than income, but we were 17th in Budget last year and we'll be down to 20th/21st this year with the teams coming up (though I can't imagine that the teams a few places above us will have massive difference, it's just going to be the fallen giants and the sugar daddy teams that will dwarf us)

Brady has managed to make us punch above where our budget would put us consistently for the last 3 years, so it's not the end of the world, just a reality of what we've got to work with.

That all said so far, the two who have gone elsewhere weren't people that we were expecting would have tonnes of interest elsewhere and were both fringe players, and somehow Sherring who i'd have expected would be the one player League One clubs were hungry to take off hasn't yet been picked up. Hoskins and Guthrie (and to a lesser extent, Pinnock and Sowerby) are another year older, but the club have been very good and nailing down key players on long contracts, so losing someone we want to keep hasn't happened a lot over the last few years.

Edit: He wanted 3-3.5k a week, and we can't afford that for anyone who isn't a star player, and he isn't a star player. Hylton wages burning a hole in our pocket to spend, but wouldn't really want to be spending that on someone who was on the fringes this year.

My first reaction when we offered him a deal was ‘ffs’ so to hear he then wanted to be highest paid makes me more comfortable with it.

He just didn’t score goals for us and we could get a border collie in to run around a lot if we’re desperate

Shaun Raggett signed on to re-form his partnership with Joe Rafferty.
Hopefully they can emulate the success they enjoyed at Pompey.

Very quiet on the Burton lad though Mmmmm, hope he got through his medical.

Jay Mingi signs from Colchester, 3 year deal. Looked some player against us in April.
Yeah he's the one everyone was raving about instead of Fevrier

Only 23 and hopefully a definite upgrade on Croasdale

Jamie Lindsay has just said his goodbyes to the fans.
No mention of where he is going, just thanking everyone for the last 5 years.

Wherever he ends up they will get a whole hearted player who never gives up.
What he lacks in skills and finesse he makes up for in tenacity and hard graft.

He was supposed to be going to Wrexham last January, maybe that's his destination.

Sorry to see him go but I suppose you can get stale after 5 years and it looks like Evo wants to completely freshen things up.
