Signing on loan doesn’t stop players renegotiating new contracts with their parent club.

We signed Jonny Smith from Bristol City and he signed an extension with them after his had signed on loan with us.

Could be getting strung along - it’s been in the pipeline for ages.

Finally named as Ramirez Howarth, former Blackburn but playing in the Welsh League the last season or two. Never known a trialist take so long to be named.
Yep never known anything like it, very strange.

It doesn't but he's rated very highly and they didn't want him playing, performing well in L1 and then having a situation where they could lose him for a minimal fee at the end of the season.

Bez Lubala signs for Blackpool from Crawley.

Crawley played him on the left of an attacking three. Cutting inside mostly. Quick and powerful but raw. Was learning to take a better option than blazing over the bar. Shame we've lost him but when you're as small as us everyone is a predator.

Undisclosed fee, they always are from Crawley's side. He had a year and an option left on his Crawley contract .

Well, that’s exactly the same situation I highlighted with Jonny Smith. I cant see how being at your club now and training and integrating has any impact on Morton/WBA discussing their future contract.

We finally signed someone - albeit a loanie. Cameron Prings from Bristol City. Left back we need as we only have Lee Brown. Looked like he was a decent at Walsall last season.

bit of a contradiction hes no good but cut price fee "2.5m ok

No contradiction. I assume you have misread. I clearly stated that it wasn’t because he wasn’t a good player but rather because the club had planned for his departure almost 12 months out, hence the comment re: Rob Atkinson...

Someone in L1 had a bid turned down yesterday for our striker Stephen Humprhys. Actually hoping he doesn't leave got a feeling he could be very good in L2 if he stays injury free.

I'd expect that was Bristol Rovers to replace Clarke-Harris

Humphrys had a pretty decent loan spell with us, and is exactly the sort of player we need.

When's Southend's next tax bill due...

We dont replace our best players, we go with what we have left and hope for the best.

Clarke-Harris will likely be replaced for the 2021/22 season

An injury prone striker?

That'll be us then :hb:

Signed George Cooper from Peterborough for an undisclosed fee was class here on loan last season.

3 year deal as well. Must be over a decade since we last gave one of them out!

Good statement from the club. Doubt the fee was much with Peterborough needing to get rid.

Good signing for us that is.

Cooper might not’ve pulled up any trees at Peterborough but sometimes players just click in different teams. He works well with Ryan Lowes system, he also fills probably the only gap we really had left to fill.

Often teams get promoted and get taken apart with major players leaving or loan players not returning so it’s always a bit of a mixed bag and sometimes the resulting product is actually worse than the team that got promoted. What I like about our pre season is that we’ve now managed to keep pretty much the entire team from last season including bringing back key loan players, and we’ve also added to it in many areas with some quality (watch out for Lewis MacLeod as our deep sitting midfielder).

It bodes well, and we may well surprise a few this season.

Lowe showed that he is a good poker player. It always came across that he was prepared to call Fry’s bluff. Both sides will be happy, but suspect we will be happier with the deal. Bit surprised about the three year deal, we don’t do two year deals let alone three.

The reason being he is 36 next birthday. I cannot speak for other 3rd Division clubs but we at Bristol Rovers are now looking at players who are young enough to play for us at between 2 to 3 years and hopefully have a sell on value.

That is the correct way of going about business, but we have Doyle who i think may need to rest especially cup games and when we have three games in a week just rest him and give Nugent a game share the workload

The fact you are getting excited about a 36 year old ponderous has been shows just where you are right now mas.

That is exactly what we are doing at Lincoln, our average age at present is 23, we only have one player over 30, club captain to be Bridcutt. Not counting Coker as he is on loan at Stevenage for the season.

You can’t play both Nugent and Doyle together. Doyle needs to do very little other than hang around in the penalty area. He needs an energetic workhorse in tandem - as in Yates last year - to do all the running for him.

A couple of years ago we had Marc Richards, probably the best lower league goal scorer of recent years. But he was 36 and his legs were gone. You can’t have 2 non runners/workers in the same team.

Alex Bruce played for us yesterday on trial. I’d be surprised if we signed him to be honest, unless we can manage to offload Lancashire somehow.

I'm pleased to see Bolton taking a refreshing approach of signing young, hungry and affordable players with possible resale value rather than overpaid has-beens. Definitely sensible financial management and very sustainable.
