You could try it but we did and he doesn’t work centrally in my view. His good games at Birmingham (ironically his very best against us when they won 5-0) was as a left winger. His best move is knocking it past a fullback and beating them for pace, he’s too weak on the ball centrally and not skilful enough to be a creative type 10. He’s an out and out winger in my view
Fair enough, only seen him in the games against us.

I didn’t like him as a player at all, but in his defence we never really played to his strengths hence it always being a funny move. If played as a genuine winger I think he can work, anything else I just don’t see him as well rounded enough.

Not sure what system we'll play this season, but possibly shaping up as a 3-4-3, so signing Chong would add weight to that.

I was pretty unimpressed to be honest, but he never really got a run in the side to establish himself either under Bloomfield or Dodds.

As far as kicking people a lot, no, not really from what I saw - and I think this was one of the problems - I mean sure, a player should play how the manager wants him to, so you can't necessarily blame Bakinson for this.

But he didn't seem to do any one particular role well, whether it was being a spoiler, creative midfield schemer, or box-to-box type.

He wasn't terrible though. And (unless it was just his agent) he seems to be our most in-demand unwanted player, with multiple clubs apparently having been interested.

I literally can’t recall ever seeing him play tbh. Think he’s the tallest CM I’ve ever seen us have so I assumed he could mix it up a bit. We’ve been after him since Wellens arrived at the club apparently.

Rotherham United are delighted to confirm the signing of young and exciting defender Lenny Agbaire who joins for an undisclosed fee from Celtic, subject to EFL and FA ratification and international clearance.

The 20-year-old defender arrives at AESSEAL New York Stadium on a deal until the summer of 2028 to bolster Matt Hamshaw's defensive options.

Finally a bit of transfer action, only the third signing of the close season.
Another 5 or 6 and we might just about achieve mid table.

A flurry of Luton rumours today. The most prominent is Iraqi international Ali Al-Hamadi from Ipswich. We could probably pay a £2.5M valuation if we wanted to. I'd be all over that deal if available but don't expect him to be cheap.

Luton are also interested in Gideon Kodua from West Ham - I've genuinely never heard of him, but has been on-loan twice at Wycombe.

Finally, Josh Koroma is all under interest. Honestly, he's been talked about for years; I've never really seen what the fuss has been about with him.

And in addition, Josh Keeley has also been linked from Tottenham. Last week the GK was linked to Portsmouth for a high 6 figure fee.

I like the sound of Al Hamadi, had sort of hoped we would be interested when he was at Wimbledon to be honest but I guess the timing didn’t work. I imagine we will end up with Koroma and Kodua though as I can’t see us spending much this summer. Kodua in particular seems likely to me given the Wycombe link there

Kodua definitely showed potential - far from the finished article (and you wouldn’t expect him to be at his age) but certainly shows pace and skill.

What are your thoughts on Simonds?
First time i have seen him tonight, all be it on a youtube feed, looked quality and ran the midfield even if it was for 30mins against Barrow,
I like Morley, but Simonds looks a class above him

That's a difficult one. He is definitely a good player, a mean eye for a pass and can put in some decent tackles.

He can get a bit hotheaded at times and needs to improve on the disciplinary front.

So there's certainly quality there, and I also think he would look better in a better team, playing a more ball-to-feet style - which I would expect from a Schumacher side.

But under Dodds (which is when he came into the side), we went more hoofy, so we were probably bypassing him a lot of the time anyway and not using a style which would play to his strengths.

So yeah, promising, but I feel like we didn't see the best of him, and he could be inconsistent - flashes of real quality, but needed to show them more often, yet we probably weren't playing the right style to allow him to shine.

It looks like the Josh Keeley deal to Luton is going to happen on a permanent, worth around £1M with no buy-back clause.

It also appears that they’ve had 2 offers for Shayden Morris turned down by Aberdeen. The offer being around £600,000 plus add-ons.

Kamari Doyle is another one that is rumoured to be interesting Luton, a 19-year old midfielder on-loan from Brighton. He scored 7 goals and got 4 assists for struggling Crawley last season.

Really starting to get into gear now recruitment wise. And I'd argue most of our signings / rumoured signings would be handy for the level above.

Dan Gore returns to the Millers for a second loan spell from Manchester Utd..

Injuries cut short his appearances last season but when he did play, he looked a real talent.

I'm pleasantly surprised with this one, apparently he was happy to come back and work with MH.

First blow of the summer that Isaiah Jones is going to be out until at least October with a stress fracture in his back, hence the extra wing firepower being touted above. Jones would be scary on the wing for some defenders at this level.

Some trends I've spotted - Bloomfield has often mentioned "leadership" in his quotes. From what I've seen, all the signings we've made so far (maybe with the exception of Richards because he's only 17) would be potential captain picks.

I think this will go a long way. Like it or not, our squad was already technically pretty good, but the attitude last season was awful. Looks like we're addressing that. I still think our budget will end up being in the high £20millions, if not over £30m.

The second trend - the height of these players. Potentially we're building a bit of team of giants - FIFTEEN (15) of our 28 man "senior" squad are 6ft or above. I expect set pieces once again will be a big factor in our season.

I actually think our squad is in pretty good shape now.

We still need a #1 goalkeeper. Lucas Bergstrom as I say is training with Luton with a view to sign a contract. Although I think we'd have signed him this morning if we were completely convinced by him. He's 6ft9in by the way...

I think in defence we're probably covered. I suspect we'll play a combination of 4-2-3-1 and 3-5-2 again. I think we still need backup for Alfie Doughty at LWB. Jamal Lewis has been mentioned, but will likely only come in if Alfie goes up a level.

Midfield is stacked now. Unless others leave, I suspect there isn't any room there. I'd expect Marvelous Nakamba to probably not survive the cull.

Fancy we may sign another striker to join Nakhi Wells. We have Adebayo long term injured, Brown is also missing pre-season and Nordas unproven in England. Nathan Lowe has been mentioned.
A £30 million budget in league 1 is absolutely crackers. What chance do the rest of us have!

Rumours our end of Michael Smith. I can't see it myself...surely he'll have Championship interest and wages must be in 5 figures per week. You never know but it just seems highly unlikely.

Who says Luton have a 30m budget......They are receiving that amount from parachute payments
Does not mean they have that budget to spend on players.....Their incomings and outcoming tell you that they have far from that.
They will receive more in transfer fees then than they shell out
They are re-building correctly for the future
The owners may want to put the 30m and any incoming fees to one side for the new stadium

How can teams compete you say................Simple
Billionaire owners can blow Luton out of the water

Doyle couldn't get in our side, surprised at that

We are absolutely stacked with midfielders at the moment. And the guy is only 19 years old. I’d say there will need to be players going out before he joins. 11 goal contributions from midfield at his age for a relegated side isn’t bad though, right?
