Stickied League 1 Transfer Rumours/Confirmed Transfers 2024/25

Luton having a meltdown over players leaving despite being cushioned by 70 mil over 2 years, and L1 having to put up with clubs like Birmingham and Wrexham over the last year. Where as our record transfer fee is still 165,000 from 2003. Now we are struggling to buy any striker, leaving us to resort to loans from champ clubs to cover the whole of our front line. Just how ridiculous and unequal has this league become?

Respectfully, please don’t put Luton in the same league as Wrexham, Birmingham and Ipswich. Our owners haven’t put their hands in their pocket since Covid aside from any stadium work. It’s something that I’m increasingly frustrated about. We got £210M+ over 3 years yet proceeded to waste it. We didn’t want to be here in the first place - I didn’t want us to be one that unbalances everything!

Yeah it’s kind of the opposite to how described above. It’s more that the PL money HASNT really been used at all to improve the squad and despite being in profit from sales we still aren’t spending. We are the opposite of Birmingham and Wrexham in that sense that w probably could go and spend but are not doing so. I mean, we are losing out on players to Stockport who have had none of the kind of cash injection we have had over the last few seasons

And over and above that I don’t think people are that bothered about the spending or lack of, it’s always been obvious that the club would not go on a spree like those others mentioned. For me it’s more the kind of high handed manner the club is taking to communicate around the off field stuff than the selling of players itself, which everyone expected. Like pressuring journalists and dreadful club comms despite it being a supposed area of focus

ROTHERHAM United this afternoon made former Ajax youngster Ar'jany Martha their ninth new boy of the summer.
Manager Matt Hamshaw is really excited about the capture of the talented left wing-back who has come to AESSEAL New York Stadium on a three-year deal.
The Millers have paid an undisclosed fee to take the 21-year-old from Belgian side Beerschot.

Good to have two Dutch kids in the squad as its first time in England for both this lad and Denzil Hall, it should help them settle into the bright lights of downtown Rotherham.

MH said he wanted to get the age of the squad down, I just hope fans will show a little patience.

Aside from failing transfers, we are well stocked now in all areas apart from LWB and up front. I don't think we need any more than that; perhaps a young third keeper?

What I expect / happen from here, now 2 days from the first game:

-Mark McGuinness will stay as he still gets up to fitness.
-Millenic Alli will also stay, but he'll get strong interest towards the end of the window and certainly in January.
-Marvelous Nakamba will go out on loan somewhere.
-Tahith Chong will probably sign for someone towards the end of the window in the Championship.
-Teden Mengi is out for weeks not months after he was hacked down in a friendly at Southend. I'd expect him to stay til at least Christmas.
-Lamine Fanne had interest in June, but think he will stay.
-Isaiah Jones has a stress fracture and will be out until maybe September / October at least.
-Christ Makosso will be one of the leading players in L1 this season.
-Tom Holmes will go out on loan probably within L1.
-Hakeem Odoffin is out for a non football related issue - no idea of a timeline.
-Joe Johnson is going to be out until 2026 after having an operation yesterday.
-Jayden Luker has just joined Notts County on loan for the season. Think that is a good move.
-Equally, Taylan Harris joined Tranmere on loan last week.
-Josh Phillips and Oli Lynch will probably stay for EFL Trophy games but go out in 2026. It feels a big season for Zack Nelson too.

I’d like a RWB. Not sure how long Jones will be out for with his back and Walters is pretty poor imo.

To be honest that’s a spot that might be good to get a quality loan in to tide us over for that reason. But I doubt it happens and we will probably just roll with Walters

Bloomfield has already said 2 in, 2 out. Presumably that is Nakamba and Doughty for Al-Hamadi (and Humphreys?)

There’s been not a breath of a rumour about Nakamba as far as I can tell. Don’t even know if he’s with us at the moment which is a bit strange. Hopefully we can move him on.

I meant more he hasn’t been around the pre season friendlies or the training camp in Slovenia it seems unlike the other players who are about but not involved he wasn’t around at the Spurs friendly either. He’s obviously a contracted player here but is he actually about the place or sitting in Zimbabwe or elsewhere.

It will be a shame if it peters out because with a decent pre season behind him (he didn’t get one last year) he could have been an asset still

Hope we have something up our sleeves there as we don’t have anyone to actually play LB/LWB at the moment. Had quite liked the sound of Dodgson too, seems to have had a very good loan at Burton last season playing the same role he would have here

We've signed Ethan Wheatley from Manchester United on loan. After his doomed loan spell with Walsall, he becomes the only fit striker at the club as is likely to start against Wigan as he's been with the team for a week and was in the stands against the West Ham Friendly last Saturday. Got to hope it's the right fit for the right team, and we can get the his England U19 form out rather than his Walsall form. Been a target we've been watching for a while, after missing out on Kodua who opted to go for Luton, and Costelloe who was got gazumped as soon as Wigan and other bigger spenders became insterested.

The guy who knows what's going on say's we've had talks with Alfie Loyd, but there's a few League one teams interest, we're still interested in returned Terry Taylor on a permanent from Charlton, and we've put in a bid in for Tyler Walton for Accrington, as well as wanting one more defender (which probably means the sidelined Baldwin and Willis will likely be unloaded if they bring him in).

Going to potentially be quite a young Squad.

Rotherham United are delighted to confirm the signing of our 10th arrival of the summer in the form of striker Kion Etete, who joins on loan from Cardiff City until the end of the season, subject to EFL, FA and FAW ratification and international clearance.

The Millers have swooped for the signature of the 23-year-old frontman who burst onto the scene with Notts County before spending time with Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.


The Millers will now await confirmation of the necessary clearances which will determine whether Kion is able to take part in Saturday's Sky Bet League One opener against Port Vale.

Both Kayode and McGuckin are out injured and took little part in any of the friendlies.

Kayode is on a small wage plus a pay as you play contract given his plethora of injury problems.
McGuckin is not quite ready for a first team starting place anyway.

Yeah don’t want to come to the side of those moaning consistently about everything at the moment but that’s underwhelming to say the least. Reeks of panic signing as we’ve missed out on our other targets. Pretty inexcusable if you ask me given as soon as the relegation was confirmed Doughty was going to be gone.

He’s athletic at least, and it’s better than playing a centre half there though

I’ve seen good reports online from Portsmouth supporters so maybe a good stop gap signing with a view to him being a backup or being able to improve that area in the level above (soon hopefully).

Luton have signed Jerry Yates for an undisclosed fee. Honestly since his best spell of his career at Blackpool, having seen him many times in the division above he’s never really impressed me too much.

Sounds like Luton want another forward to finish the transfer business - like it or not, executing 10 signings by 1 Aug is pretty impressive, even if we’ve done it relatively on the cheap (again). Perhaps money is being held back (again) for next season in a higher level as we’re going to see a huge drop off next summer.

Yes again was slightly underwhelmed. Being linked with Lowe and Al-Hamadi and then sign Yates. Probably need to re-align my expectations of who we sign and Yates has a very good record at this level.

Exeter apparently after Kieran Sadlier on a free after he left us recently.

Very good signing…IF…you can keep him fit. Can beat his man and whip in a decent cross, it’s just the injury record that’s the point of caution.

Cowley described him as irreplaceable earlier in the year after receiving a lot of interest from the Championship and elsewhere in the winter.

The transfer has fallen through as the clubs couldn’t agree a structure of payments.

Very strange although I saw yesterday on social media, someone claiming that he failed his medical and Luton requested his £750K fee to be reduced to £500K as a result.

Perhaps someone better has become available?
