If Preston go up they might not feel he's wanted, hopefully he'll be available without a fee, that's when the Ronnie factor will kick in, we are going to get some players we wouldnt normally because of him, and just to remind Carlisle fans, Ronnie was out of work when you chose Curle

And? We were utterly dreadful under Kavanagh at the start of the season and we were already adrift. The fact we are now 9pts clear of the relegation zone just shows he's done a decent job.

Although if we're not fighting for promotion next season he will have failed expectations.

And Moore applied for the CUFC job.
Most Carlisle fans didn't want him.

So **** off Gary Johnson, You're sending Cheltenham down, to the Vanarama, to the Vanarama
So **** off Gary Johnson, You're nicking a living, it's always someone else's fault....

So his record was worse than Paul Buckle's, I don't know why and I don't know why
Chairmen still give him Gary a job.......

Were you one of the most?
I didn't want Moore. I wanted Neil McDonald like a lot of our fans did.

I've no doubt Moore would have kept us up, but the quality of football we played under McDonald in 07 and the young players he signed (e.g Danny Graham, Joe Garner) were a joy to watch. We wanted some more of that.

I'd still rather have Curle than Moore at this stage sorry to say. We were in an absolutely horrific state when he came in, 6 points clear of the drop or something like that with 9 games gone, the job he's done in getting us safe with 2 games to go has somewhat passed under the radar.

Moore is an excellent firefighter for teams in your position but I can't see him getting you promoted personally. I didn't want him when he applied for our job, the general feeling amongst fans was that he could keep us up but wouldn't be a good long-term appointment which is what we needed. I also wanted McDonald, but wasn't too displeased with Curle. We'll see how summer goes I guess.

next week will give as indication of which manager is the better motivator , nothing at stake and all that. We will have to wait till next year to see who is better, as we are both happy with our managers then it's game on!

Ronnie will have Hartlepool challenging the top 7 next season. If it's any indication, he took us over (2nd time) in relegation trouble in L1, finished top half that season and then we started the next season with 9 wins and 3 draws in the first 12. Top of the league for 6 months but he wasn't backed and it fell apart when injuries hit.
If Hartlepool back him, he'll do well. He's been sacked by us for missing the playoffs by 2 minutes, sacked by Oldham for finishing 8th in L1, sacked by Rotherham because they were 'only in the playoffs' in L2. Good times ahead poolies.

Hmm I wouldn't read too much into it. That's like judging a managers motivational skills on a pre season friendly. Plus you've got Hugill so it's hardly fair to judge the 2 on this game.
I actually think Moore is a better motivator than most managers including our own, but I just think he's a bit old school for my liking and wouldn't be my choice to take a club forward.

I'm assuming Tranmere and Cheltenham have pretty much everyone out of contract? The last thing you need is to be coming down with loads of players on silly contracts.

Didn't think it would hit me as hard as it has :( Braintree away next year...Christ
At least it'll be nice weather when you play Braintree (although probably midweek). A drop of rain and their pitch is unplayable.

Yes, we have just 6 players contracted for next season. We have a lot of short term deals that have options for further years but I doubt very much if they will be taken up. Lots of loans to go back too, so it's virtually a clean slate for next season which is a bonus.

Ronnie moore is by far a better manager than keith curle ffs curle relegated two clubs twice! Ronnies never been relegated and has had a great degree of success were keith curle has done fuck all allbeit kept Carlisle up which was going to happen anyway.

Simpson was shockingly bad as our manager. His short spell included three 5-0 loses and two 4-1 defeats. A lot of the points we did pick up were extremely fortunate. We also lost our two best players (loanees) just after he was sacked and the teams below us had games in hand. It was the right decision to sack him but we were not decisive enough in replacing him.

I agree, that man couldn't organise your defence for toffee, I remember us playing like utter crap against you at Edgeley Park and still got a point because you let in 3 goals. That Assoumani was one of the worst defenders I've ever seen.

Think Cheltenham will be fine, back at their natural level really, they'll bumble about in mid-table for 10 years before maybe having another crack at promotion.
I can't actually believe Tranmere have gone down, are they the first team to be relegated from the 3rd tier to non-league in consecutive seasons?
I don't really know about them off the field, that is where most of the battle is won in the Conference, if you go down a basket case it's more than likely you'll have a long stay, but Bristol Rovers have shown this season that you can adjust quickly even after a devastating relegation.

I'm sure Lincoln and Newport went down consecutively in the late 80s when relegation was first introduced. Lincoln was a shock at the time, a few years earlier they narrowly missed out on promotion to the Championship and were the opponents on that tragic day in Bradford in 1985. By 1987 they were a Conference club after two successive relegations. Newport went down consecutively the following season but that was due to poor finances and they went to the wall a few months later.

We'll see next season, but all i'll say is both applied for our job so we've had our choice of the two and you've ended up with Moore...

Funny thing is, as I remember. A lot of people weren't impressed with the appointment of Curle, who just sort of appeared out of the blue watching us at the New Meadow, named the bookie's favourite and was then appointed a few days later, and were almost furious at the thought that Moore was even being considered when there was quite a lot linking him to us. Most people wanted McDonald and the courtship of him turned into something of fiasco, will he, won't he, it is on, he's at the stadium.... no, he's withdrawn his application. However the real groan of dissatisfaction was saved for the news that Tranmere had appointed Micky Adams, people couldn't believe that names like Moore and Curle were even being considered when Adams had been available all along.

If we keep Keith Curle I predict here and now a bottom 5 finish next season and the exact same problems we had this year and I think Carlisle would 100% deserve it for 3 times in a row making a bad costly error of judgment.

although we'll also never go anywhere if we keep up this ridiculous sacking in September stuff, they either A: Back Curle now and give him till next May or Sack and give the next guy 2 seasons.

It'll be a new board so I'd like to think they won't make the same mistakes. If they do it's clearly something in the water affecting the decision making of everyone who comes to the club.

Will we though? His record since taking over at the end of September is slightly better than bottom 5.

I reckon we'll be plodding about in midtable next season unless we can off load some of the useless contracted players we have, and to be honest after the last 2 seasons id be happy with a season of mid table.

Curle's record at Notts County wasn't too shabby.

I have to agree, it's nice to hear him say we're gonna try and win the title because that's what every club everywhere should want to do... but after the last 3 seasons I'd just be happy if we weren't threatened with relegation, actually turn up on the first day of the season and manage to not be rock bottom after 10 games. Win on a regular basis, the atmosphere at the ground picks up and we have an outside chance of a play-off push. I'd be delighted if we were actually promotion contenders.

Curle, like Moore , took over and had to work with what they were given , they both did what they were brought in to do, assembling your own squad is what management is really all about so pre season us going to be very interesting at both clubs

I seem to remember Curle masterminding a playoff campaign with Mansfield the season after an unfortunate relegation from League One.

Also think he was unfairly sacked by Notts County but their ethos is to sack a manager every season.

I had a good chuckle when the trannies were relegated from League one after we drew at home with Notts County, I actually feel pretty sorry for them now though. A few of our supporters reckon it would do the club good to get relegated and start again, here's proof that it isn't.

There's an interview with the Cheltenham chairman on the non-league show podcast this week which is worth a listen if you're interested.

I actually quite like Keith Curle as well, thought he was unfairly given the boot by County as others have said and given a pre-season and a chance to do what he wants he might be good for Carlisle next year. I think he's the sort of manager that if he can get the players he wants to play for him, they'll give 110% and do pretty well. Of course I could be wrong and he might be sacked by November, we'll wait and see ;)

Curle has been good enough I think, and I'd probably give him a chance next season. Get rid of some of the fringe players to free up the budget, and he's already shown he can bring in some decent players. However, some of his actions are a bit mystifying.

Personally, I'd like to see us challenging for promotion next season. Though I shouldn't get my hopes up too much, like last summer.
