We've made some cracking signings this summer. Obviously you can't guarantee all of them will be a success, but on paper at least we look really good right now.

Covolan

Gibbons
Martin
Smith
Benning

Walker
Pett
Conlon

Worrall
Wilson
Rodney

That's the best team we've had for years potentially. I don't think there'll be a better midfield two or three than Walker, Pett and Conlon in League Two. I don't think we're going to be a high scoring side at all, but certainly one that's difficult to beat.

Bruno Andrade next would be nice. Hasn't worked out for him at Salford but has loads of talent.

Left back Callum Rowe joins on a free following his release from Villa. Happy with that as he has some talent, which he will hopefully develop with us.

Just another 9 signings to go and we’ll be ready

Just needs depth, Dan Jones, Leon Legge, Johnson and Taylor are decent options, need a couple of strikers and a winger and certainly a back up right back in case Gibbons cant recover to play most of the games this season.

Its a solid XI as was last season but as we saw as soon as injuries struck we come unstuck so need to pad it out with decent options.

Agree, though I think this 11 is stronger than the 11 we had last season when everyone was fit and available. We definitely need another forward obviously. Either the manager is backing himself to get something like the best out of Wilson, and we'll probably bring in some youngster, or we're still looking for a forward that's proven he can score goals at this level.

For all of his talent, Wilson hasn't done much for a while for various reasons. So as good a player as he might be at this level, we certainly can't depend on that.

Luke Joyce gone to Fylde. For those Vale fans (not on here) who were criticising DC for releasing all the out of contract players if that is the best level one of the better ones in him can find that might suggest we made the right call...

He was a top pro and a nice bloke but at times I've seen people walk faster than he can run. Could also be very sloppy in possession too which was supposed to be his best attribute, keeping things ticking over.

We've apparently turned down a 5 figure bid for Alfie May from a League 2 team. Assumptions being made that it's FGR, because they're the only club that exist according to a minority of our fans.

As for Alfie - he's easily replaceable. Can score out of nothing, but by God is he infuriating with some of his misses. Only really seems to turn it on against the decent teams. I don't want to see him go, but I wouldn't be too upset if he does.

Not saying it's us but I know we've been long term admirers of May. We took him on trial when he was at Hythe, not sure if we turned him down or whether Doncaster swooped in and nabbed him from under our nose but we were definitely interested at some point in the past.

I would be happy if it was us bidding for May, if that is indeed true, but given our level of activity in the signings department so far (3 midfielders) I think it is more likely to be someone else...however your description makes him sound a bit like Aaron Collins...when in reality we need someone capable of playing alongside Jamille Matt.

I Would imagine its either Salford or ourselves. I think we're going to miss out on the Boreham Wood striker and are probably switching transfer targets. We only have 2 strikers as well.

Could be us given we never found out who that striker was that we bid for a few weeks ago.

Doubt it though, as I don't imagine he's Adams' type of striker.

We still need 2 strikers 2 left backs a centre back a keeper and 2 wingers could be a lot of clubs good player at this level May.

Looks like we’re set to sign 3 players early this week:

George Ray ex Tranmere and Crewe. He’ll be a direct replacement for McArdle. I hear he’s had a tough time at Prenton Park, but hopefully he will be solid enough.
Ray should suit Exeter’s playing style as capable of passing out from the back. Probably best deployed alongside a player who can organise a defence though.

He had an indifferent first season with us, was doing quite well last season after being recalled, only to be scapegoated by Hill after a poor team performance. Don’t think he showed his best for us, probably needs a steady run of first team football but decent enough at this level.

We've signed Alex Gilliead again.

Had a few good games against us since leaving but was always a bit meh when he was here previously. Not really sure what to make of it.

Given that we’ve now signed Manny from Salford, assume Harry Smith won’t be heading this way. I’m still expecting at least another striker if not two to land before the season starts. He does have connections with the ex agent Beck who helps with our recruitment. His height will give us another option.

Same here he was only young when he was last with us hopefully he’s come on at Scunny, could have done a lot worse tbf I think. Better not get to many more Scunny players though they were even worse than us…

Will be interesting to see where we play him as I'm sure he's played CM at scunny a bit

Steve Beck is probably busy trying to get Southgate a new contract.

Aaron Drinan confirmed for us on a 2 year contract. Unless he is 4th/5th choice, this is probably one of the worst signings I've seen us make in my 26 years - His pedigree and stats are shockingly bad :ohm:

We've paid a fee to Ipswich for him as well, wow. Don't suppose its a big fee but even so, they must be laughing.:fl:

Christ, you're building a former Scunny side.

Niall Canavan
Lee Novak
Charles Vernam
Levi Sutton
Abo Eisa
Alex Gilliead

Gilliead was okay last season, carries the ball well but doesn't do enough when he's in good positions. Think he only got 1 goal and about 2 assists last season.

Cheers. Hopefully this is a good signing for us and he can get his career back on track.

Fylde will be paying League 2 wages, so it's not necessarily the case that he couldn't find a higher level.

Wish George Ray all the best at Exeter. This is clearly his level as he stunk League One out with us and Tranmere. Dave Artell (a man who was very good at organising a defence in his playing career) got the best out of George Ray and that's how Ray got his big contract at Tranmere. I believe Matt Taylor was a centre half as well in his career so hopefully history can repeat itself there.

He's a player who'll always give 100%, he can be a threat from set pieces and, as his career has progressed, he was an excellent leader for us during the latter years of his time at Gresty Road. His downsides are that he can be injury prone, has the odd dreadful error in him and can pick up a cheap red card or two each season. I was glad that he showed great resilience after being cast aside by the previous management to eventually improve and become our captain. He was a week away from being binned off to Cambridge until Steve Davis was sacked and he really took his opportunity. He's matured a lot from the days when he was an arrogant young pro who was demanding to be starting games despite making mistakes week in week out, although I put that down to having played alongside Harry Davis who was absolutely useless.

Will be very interested to see how he does down South. He's always lived in Warrington so it'll be a big move and a huge change of scenery for him. A lot of our old Academy pro's often struggled with big moves away from home. Wouldn't surprise me if he ends up living with his best pal down there, Plymouth's George Cooper.
