Looks like we are signing Jordan Smith - a keeper released by Nottingham Forest.

No I haven’t heard of him either.

No matter who we bring in, Hinchliffe ends up winning the battle in the end so not a bad strategy to sign a cheap back-up and use the money elsewhere.

Alistair Smith Sutton fans? I see he’s a midfielder, which we don’t really need, unless he’s a winger?

Hope we're not going to overpay on wages just because he's been released from a prem club. Not exactly an exciting signing but I hope he is just being brought in to be second choice to Ben.

His 'saves compilation' on youtube isn't great lol.

Well and truly a centre midfielder. There are earlier comments in this thread on him. Lincoln and Reading have also been linked. Certainly not going to be a Sutton player by the looks of things.

We brought in Southampton's 3rd choice keeper, Harry Lewis, last summer, not expecting him to be first choice, but he went on to play every second of the season, even Pizza Cup games, and he turned out to be the best signing of the summer by far, and was probably second only to Orient's Vigoroux in best keepers in the league.

So, you just never know how it's going to turn out

On loan at stags years ago, don’t think he’s played much first team football in his career unless I’m mistaken.

Smith was brought in on loan from Forest by Flitcroft, so if he was any good he would be off to Port Vale, surely.

I don't think he's going to be our number 1 to be honest, Hinchliffe is prone to the odd clanger but he was brilliant last season all told. It's his shirt.

Did you hear the BBC Leeds interview with Lewis where he basically said that before signing with Bradford his confidence was shot. He thought that if nobody was prepared to give him a chance they must be right. In some ways the signing of our other goalie, Colin Doyle was almost as important for the way he's mentored and coached Lewis.

Unlike Lewis though, Jordan smith has had at least one spell in league football, with Mansfield 4 years ago in the second half of the season. Any Mansfield fans remember him?

When Lewis signed for us, it had also been 4 years since he'd had consistent first team football, but that was with Dundee Utd in the Scottish Championship. It makes you wonder whether anybody saw Lewis at that level and thought, 'Who is this guy?' but maybe he wasn't that good at 20.

Jordan Smith was a lot older at Mansfield though.

I remember years ago going to a Bradford City reserve match. I think it was against man City reserves, but I'm guessing, and there's no record of it I can find. (If you think I'm making this story up, I can't prove you're wrong).
Anyway Whoever Reserves have this goalie on trial. I'm going to say that I noticed him and thought, blimey, who's this guy? He looks like a decent goalie. thankfully somebody at City did as a couple of days later, we signed Mark Schwarzer.

My favourite opposition player last season. Very friendly banter with fans on our kop during that last league game at Valley Parade. Respect to him
I can echo that, best of luck to him

Thanks, central midfield is one area where we don’t need to improve, probably the only area apart from goalie tbh

Can’t agree with that PUB.
Williams is what? 35, 36? Jeffries seems better in a wider position where he has space in front of him and Lapslie is more of No10.
Dieng is good there but another in that mould would be great.
I think we need an energetic central midfielder.

Wigan’s entire squad up for grabs on Friday if they don’t get paid before then. Who would you want?

Josh Magennis has got a few at international level. Will Keane is decent too. Neither will come here though.

Alistair Smith has signed on a 2 year contract. Will hopefully compliment the excellent Erhahon in CM for us.

Jonny Williams snubs Wrexham to sign for the shagging chickens. It’s The Sun, so not a word of it will be true.

The only realistic part of that is we love a 3 year deal, they couldn’t even get the season ticket sales correct. All they had to do is go on the clubs twitter account and it’s the pinned tweet.

Good luck to him. Never really shone as I thought he would at this level. I’d imagine he was our highest earner so as we never even offered him a new contract we were happy for him to leave. He did get on our fans’ tits a bit with his liking for falling over but the refs seemed to have cottoned on and at times he was hard done by.

Certainly fills our scouting criteria: "Did he score against us last season?"

Would be surprised if true though, to be honest. Wrexham can offer more and playing in Wales would be more appealing you'd think.

Talented player Williams but not sure it's what our midfield was missing

I would take him over any of our central midfield players that turned out for us last season.

Also mentions 'fellow league 1 side Northampton' even though the journalist starts off by saying league 2 side. Poor piece of journalism

It wouldn't be completely unexpected for us to be speaking to Williams but I've seen no rumours on our side that we were ever interested- other than some fans (who are also Welsh fans) saying he would be a good addition.

We aren't likely to offer someone of his injury profile a three year contract. I'm not sure he'd be a massive upgrade to players we already have in his position either. Good player though.

It being The Sun it's probably completely made up.
