Would be great if we could sign Cox on a short-term deal. I've always rated him. Highly unlikely given we'd not be able to match other offers but who knows. Better to be playing for a pittance than not play on nothing.

Edit: the fuck is going on at Orient?

Becchetti randomly decides he doesn't like players and commands Hessenthaler (or, if the rumours are believed, himself) not to play them. McAnuff last season, Kashket, Clohessy, Simpson, Cox... He's wasted a ton of money paying up players, Henderson, Clohessy, Kashket, Cox, Nolan... We've probably spent more money paying up contracts than most teams spend on transfer fees in the same period (at this level). The guy turns the place toxic.

I thought free agents could still be signed even though the transfer window has closed?

So he has to go to a conference side or abroad (presumably) till the Summer?

What a waste of a tallent - easily good enough for a top League One side

Is the rule still in place that prevents a player from playing for more than two clubs in the same country in a season? Cox would be an outstanding short term signing for a National League club, but if he played for them then he couldn't join a League Two club in January if the FIFA rule still stands... unless it was back to Orient.

Would he be able to sign for a league side and then get loaned out to a non-league/foreign side for a couple of months? Or can he just not sign for a league club until January full stop?

No clue to the above. I imagine he can sign a contract because there's absolutely nothing stopping that, he just can't be registered. How that would impact a loan I have no idea. The whole thing is a mess. From Twitter it looks like he's going to be training with Greenwich Borough until he's set up.

Another thing I just cannot understand is what the fuck Hessie is doing there.
He is a real football man. A no-nonsense, determined sort of character.
I know he desperately wanted another shot at being the gaffer but I cannot believe he hasn't told Bechetti where to stick it.
Job offers must be very short right now.
Think I may have just answered my own question.

I just find the whole thing very sad and I hope for the East End fans that Bechetti fucks off soon and takes his inflated fucking ego with him.
Either that or the Albanians come and prod him with one of those Russian umbrellas.

Yup... It's s shame that he's become the ultimate yes man, but I imagine he's being paid a decent amount for it to be the face of it. There is a "selection committee" involving the coaching staff, manager and Uncle Frankie. From comments made by a former player released on deadline day Uncle Frankie essentially picks the team - something that was believed beforehand. This season he wasn't allowed Simpson at the start, Cox has been sold, comments and body language suggest he isn't responsible...

He obviously has a mortgage and family to look after which is fair enough, however if I was Hess I would have packed it in by now.

Orient releasing Dean Cox seems mental, was one of the best players in League One not too long back.

I'd have thought Dean Cox will end up at a London League One club.

I guess he can't be loaned because you can only be loaned from a club who hold your registration. Came up on the discussion about points deduction where Bury were deducted points for playing a player they'd loaned off Spurs, because it turned out Spurs didn't hold his registration.

Our deal with Jeffrey Monakana is off after issues with his international clearance.

We're now in the market for a free-agent striker.

For the avoidance of doubt, isn't it correct that free agents cannot be signed by FL clubs until January, as well as loan deals?

No free agents can be signed anytime, as long as they were free agents before the closure of the transfer window.

As Freealaf says, if they're free agents before the closing of the transfer window then they can be signed at anytime, hence Sunderland signing Victor Anichebe yesterday.

Why does Monakana need international clearance?

He spent the end of last season in Romania. There's an issue with an agent payment of some sorts and this has held up his international clearance.

Dean Cox coming to Crawley on Tuesday to discuss "things". Source Drummy interview on radio after Saturday's game.

I would imagine it's to discuss training with us as he lives five miles down the road but Drummy did state the club is looking at the legal side of things so who knows.

We all know he is a good player and most would be happy if he signed for their club so I'm going to close my eyes and say a little prayer.

These rules are needlessly complicated.

Colchester fans - Macauley Bonne?

Seems we're trying to get him in on a short term loan while we fix ourselves up with a permanent replacement for Jonny Margetts, who we sold to Scunthorpe yesterday.
Wtf?! Margetts has already been sold? Ridiculous, what are Lincoln doing letting him go...what...three or four weeks (pre-season aside) into his contract? That's got to be frustrating for the fans, how has that transfer been taken? How much did you get for him? Is he even that good? He never seemed to standout for Tranmere.

That's been the case for years, it's hardly complicated.

Signed a contract mid-July, so a quick escape!

Tbh, he was our third striker behind Rhead and Margetts so it's one that's been taken well by 99% of fans (the odd one with the 'lack of ambition' line). Even though he was our top scorer at the time (not anymore), he scored 4 of his 5 goals against Southport. No Lincoln fans have any idea why Scunthorpe even wanted him.

Personally, I wasn't fussed we sold him. A good player at this level, but Rhead and Marriott are better players and I'd question Margetts at L2 level never mind L1. Still only young, though, so it might work out for him and I hope it does (partly because it'll reflect well on us!).

Initially, we thought we got £40k-£50k for him but talk seems to be we got close to, or over, six figures, which is why we're being loosely linked to Ricky Miller as his replacement.
