A good signing, Magnay's been impressive over the last two seasons, although the reasoning for Magnay going to Pools is most likely geographical convenience given he's from Gateshead.

That is a good signing for them. Magnay's been very impressive every time I've seen Grimsby play. Ask any Grimsby fan and they'll say that they were desperate for him to stay at the Mariners.

Hartlepool have signed Carl Magnay from Grimsby. Obviously a minor coup opposed to The Bingham!!

I don't understand why all teams say "highly rated" for players like this, never heard of the lad but if you're playing for Grimsby at 26 how highly rated can you be exactly??
He was an absolute rock for us last season. Easily good enough for this division. As I said in the Non-League forum, arguably the best defender in the Conference last season. Frustrating that it sounds like we missed out because we couldn't negiotiate his travel expenses into his contract, but almost fully expected. I don't ever remember a player being with us for just a single season and making such a good impression and being taken to by the supporters as well as Magnay last season. You've got a good 'un there, Hartlepool.

Oh god, they can't have the best striker AND best defender in the league can they? That's just not fair. :conf:

Don't really need Okuonghae, especially if we sign that young lad Gibbons who we've been trying to confirm for about 16 years. Cuthbert Wilkinson McNulty Gibbons as four centre halves. Lacey and Franks still under contract too

Was thinking about this and given the players we have signed, in Cuthbert and Potts, can play both full back and centre half, it wouldn't surprise me if we go 352 next year. I always think the 2 outside centre halves have to be reasonably good footballers with good mobility as they potentially can get isolated. You'd expect players who are adept at full back and centre half to be that.

Would mean that another centre half would probably be needed as Gibbons would probably be a dev squad player plus I don't want Lacey or Franks seeing the field for us again really as they aren't good enough. We also have no real wingers and a plethora of good central players so would make sense from that viewpoint

The real question is whether Magnay will be star struck around Rakish and let it affect his performances, it's one thing playing in dog & duck sides like Grimsby against no marks such as Wrexham and Lincoln, but it's a game changer when you have to consistently perform to a high level every week to satisfy the demands of a genuine world class talent like Bingham, he won't settle for anything less.

(Good signing)

Didn't really need him with the options in the middle of the park. Probably got a better offer and obviously a higher league.

That's a relief then, you don't want to have too many options.

As above Magnay was excellent last season and our player of the season. Very solid defender, played all across the back 4 and even on the wing once if I remember rightly and cannot remember him ever making a mistake. His main position for us was RB but I believe he thought he was better at CB when he signed, certainly better than non-league.

Good signing, but location was a factor in him not staying with us and he has said he is moving back up North after signing for you. Good luck to him.

He won that silly Sky One programme Football Icon and signed for Chelsea, one of the many players in the premier league that rot in the reserves before being released. I also think he had a bad injury for a season or so with them, when he was released he spent two seasons at Gateshead before they released him. Big mistake from them, but he said he didn't get on with Mills. Wouldn't put it past him to spend most of the rest of his career in the FL now.

I reckon we could do much worse than Westcarr to be fair. Will be one who will require a decent wage though, Starting to wonder what our budget actually is this season.

Fucking hate that c*** Westcarr.

He played in our 'legends' match the other week and apparently looked criminally unfit.

We're just signing players either unfit or who havent played for 18 months, so he'd fit in wonderfully.

Nathan Thomas looks a done deal, he's followed on Twitter which seems the best confirmation these days. Ex Plymouth & Motherwell.

Any good Argyle fans?

Luton have just announced the signing of Cameron McGeehan on a 2 year contract for a "six figure sum".

Heard from a source I trust when we first agreed the loan back in February or whenever it was that £175,000 was the fee, I've seen that figure repeated a few times on the net since so I'm inclined to think it's fairly accurate.

Big money for us. Hopefully we'll actually use him correctly this season...

I like McGeehan but I'm still a bit unsure if spending that much on him is best use of our resources really. As above though, if we use him
Correctly we should make that money back from selling him on a few years down the line.

Good luck to him. I'm relieved we've not signed him as I think he's over rated and seems to have something of an attitude problem.
