Hadn't seen that we were back in for Mark yet. Clearly need someone else but as you say now he's back featuring for you again we'll be lucky, unless he got a taste for quorn while on loan.

It was reported in our paper. It's an odd one Ellis, some of our fans think he's underrated, others think he's a carthorse. He's sort of ended up back in contention by default after Raynes turned down a contract and Brisley was allowed to leave but we were only able to bring Parkes in. I think most expected this summer he would be going to FGR permanently, we've ended up being forced to use him because we had nobody else, and he's done well enough I think to consider him first choice now.

What can we (Birmingham) expect from Vassell?

There's a good chance he will start tomorrow night against Bolton, we have a few players out injured.

Very disappointed in Sweet, he owes an explanation to the fans after saying on Wednesday that they didn't expect to accept any offer and then turning round and selling the player on Monday. Massive, massive loss.
Chairman in not keeping to his word shocker. Gary Bitter, as I like to call him.

I dont think its too great a loss, if Hylton was fit its not even certain he would have started on the opening day. Good and improving young player no doubt, and I would have liked to have kept but to get potentially 1.75 million for a player out of contract next summer is i think pretty good business.

Absolutely rapid, decent finisher, good leap and works hard. Still raw though and will need to improve some aspects of him game at that level. We said the same about Andre Gray to be fair and he took to it like a duck to water. There are a ton of similarities between the two players, I think Vassell is actually a bit more technically polished than Gray was when he left here although Gray is physically stronger and had a weapon of a right foot when he smashed it goalwards.

Would imagine Vassell will take a while to settle this season.

I hope you are correct but I'm not so certain that Collins and Hylton will make a great partnership. In the game against Yeovil Vassell and Collins were linking up superbly and Vassell's hold up play and pace in behind will be very difficult to replace.

Sounds promising. He will probably have to bide his time when Adams & Jutkiewicz return from injury, unless he hits the ground running tomorrow night.

I could see this happening with Harry Redknapp bleating on about his strikers crisis.

So we've made over £3.5m in transfers this summer.

New bid gone in for Vassel this morning, rumoured to be £1.75million.
Bite their hand off, crazy money for someone we got for free and is out of contract in the summer.
If true then that price is a bloody good one and your negotiating team deserve a big pat on the back, I remember last season when we played you at your place(Feb?) and vassel was starting, a number of your fans was moaning that he was playing and although he scored he didn't look precisely top notch, seems like since then he's come into some form but I still think they've(whoever it is) have paid too much, which is all the better for you.

I'd hate to be Torquay who turned him down last summer.

Looks like Hanson has rejected us as he does not want to play in League 2. Who can blame him

They looked like a fecking horrendous partnership against Barnet though. Not many teams will play with a high line against us like Yeovil did which is why Vassell had so much joy (probably his most effective game ever for us I would say?).

Hylton is the better player right now overall, no doubt in my mind. Not as quick obviously but a lot more skilful and better at beating a man with the ball at his feet.

I wonder if we would still have sold Marriott had we known that Vassell was going to leave at the time. Might have pulled the trigger too early on that one although it was a good fee under the circumstances.

I think Collins was Marriots replacement. The problem with Vassell was that we didn't tie him down on a longer contract and being his existing one was due to expire next summer it put Vassell in an advantageuos position. We needed to get a decent fee hence why he was sold now. Doubt if the £1.75m is correct. I think it will be a lot lower but knowing our board we will have a decent sell on clause agreed. Fortunately we still have two very good strikers and E. Lee who I feel will be a bench player. I'd like to see a CB brought in with the money we've made. I'm sure there are some other potential Grays and Vassells out there that we could develop.

Hardy continuing his very public courting of Tyler Walker.

Suspect it's down to Forest really - if they do decide to send him out on loan then he'll probably come here.

Get him in the van.

This link with Forest is superb - makes it even crazier it's not happened before. Mutually beneficial and all that - it's a no brainer unless you think they're far too good for League 2 but that didn't stop Grant.

Grant being at this level is just silly but yeah, it's all good. Yates looks pretty good as well.

Am I allowed to be really really pissed off by today's events.

I suppose the £1.75m is a bit of a nice kitty but after the statement last week, I'm pretty pissed.

A significant amount of the money needs to be reinvested immediately.

Being in L2 clubs can only really attract potential players - much as we have with Woolery. May pay off, may not.

Having a large wedge to spend doesn't really equate to getting an adequate replacement

Seems the rumours around 3/4 Bury players available and could end up at Swindon before the month end.

Why? The club have invested a shit-load already, we've already "replaced" Vassell and aside from him Jones said the squad was done unless something special comes up weeks ago.
