Well we have 22 already in our first team squad ( after our release list ) and today announced we are going on a massive shopping spree for next season. Starting with Josh Grant from Chelsea who i believe played for Plymouth last season. Garner aims to get players in for every position bar Goalkeeper ( as we already have 3 ) and Right back. Welcome to Division three.

Couple of issues here fellas, it’s got nothing to do with where we finished last season - my comment was in regard to potential salary caps, nowt to do with onfield issues. Regarding budgets, it’s pretty obvious it was one of the biggest but it’s equally obvious it was not #1.

David Sharpe was on the D3D4 podcast the other week saying how he’s planning for all eventual possibilities regarding salary caps.

Now am I fully convinced? No but I’m going to go out on a whim here, slightly controversial I know but bare with me, I reckon he knows more than you, me and any other bloke that’s sad enough to frequent on a football forum for L2 football regarding salary caps.
How a club deals with salary caps are intrinsically linked to a club's finances though, so I don't think it's possible to answer your question of "do you think they know what they're doing?" without considering the shitshow that is Mansfield's perpetual and unsustainable overspending.

Also absolutely not obvious that your budget wasn't the highest.

Do you think possibly, maybe, potentially, the people at the club have a better idea what the salary cap is truly going to be considering they are in direct discussions with the relevant bodies?

Also if anybody genuinely think that they are going to chuck down a blanket £1.25m wage cap immediately, not taking in to consideration all the contracts etc pre-COVID then fair play if you get that right

Think it’s also worth noting, that despite I still expect us to spend well for next season we have released a lot of our long term and big earners and have since signed somebody out of favour at MK and a bloke from Torquay.

Also come on, last season was a disaster, there’s no need to pretend we had the #1 budget, the foundation to take the piss is clearly available without making up stuff, it’s just unnecessary.

Wasn’t it Radford that was calling for the £1.25m cap? Maybe he thinks if he spends oodles now before said cap is introduced he can steal a march on those clubs who are waiting to see if/when/what the cap may be.

Sneaky fucker!

Is your question, do I think the owners are more in the loop than me or do I think they know what they're doing? Because the latter is what you asked first and it's not what you're asking now.

And whatever you need to tell yourself re: your budget last year. Everyone else knows it was massive!

The £1.25m is supposed to be a minimum suggestion and not necessarily what it’ll end up as.

After lots and lots of debate/votes it will end up as £1.25m and 1p I reckon.

Contracts do not start until 1st Aug, when all signs say pre season training will start.

The National League play off final is scheduled for 31st July, so hard to see pre-season starting the next day for league 2 clubs.

Plus I always thought football league contracts started from the 1st July?

Essentially the same thing, but the contracts start from whatever day they sign and run until 30th June on whatever year don't they?

Rumours floating about (though that’s all they are at this point) that Stoke may be in for Nathan Smith from us. If it were true on the one hand of course he should be aiming to play as high as possible and earn as much as he can especially in the present climate. But to join them it’d be a stretch for me to wish him well if he went there.

Yep. Pretty much all fixed term contracts run until the 30th June, so it's logical that new ones would begin at the start of July.

If they only started in August contracted players would in effect go through pre-season without getting paid.

Is that contracts thing a league rule then? I just thought that was the date that the Football Manager games chose for contracts to expire.

Might as well stay at Vale and get to league one that way rather than joining Sjoke.

Smurfs ball up by not offering a new deal earlier so he didn’t get in a situation where he is just 24 and we lose him for nothing.

I’m not entirely sure, although I do remember Radford communicating on behalf of L2 clubs, which is a bit weird considering he owns a club that is a financial shambles with the largest league two budget ever.

Does appear that he is definitely going to be playing elsewhere next season. Shame as he has done well and to lose him for nothing after he’s come through our academy is a blow.

That being said he’s also quite replaceable and the money we would have given to him could be redirected to a new striker as Brisley and Crookes between them can compete for the centre back spot then.

They wouldn't. Players are entitled to a months severance pay if they don't find a new club in July, so their current club will pay an extra month. Been like that for many, many years but not something they do in the NL I don't think.

I meant newly signed players, not released/free agents.

If a player signs for a club in June, their contract at their new club starts on the 1st of July, not on the 1st August like the Mansfield fan said.

Otherwise a player could sign for a club in June and in effect go through July pre-season unpaid.

Saw a couple of rumours linking us with Scott Boden and Ikechi Anya on twitter. Not sure which is more laughable.

Haha if you're gonna get so upset at opinions regarding your ownership, maybe just stick to asking for them on Stagsnet? Your club is a financial shambles if the Radfords dropped dead or decided they're fucking it off midway through a season.

I was just fishing mate, honestly it’s just a bit of fun - having the league two biggest budget ever is a load of fun

Well its on our official website that jordan bowery,s contract officially starts on august 1st ,suppose if you think about the players who are going to be without clubs next season its better to get a concrete deal now for august than risk missing out altogether

The fun doesn't officially start until somebody declares YEAR OF THE STAG.

Which was ironically radford

He claimed one season (and only the one season as he learned it wasn’t such a clever thing to say)

Coincidentally that season we did go on to win the league and it was the year of the stag :sb:

Crawley sign 24 year old forward Sam Ashford after his contract with Hemel Hempsted expired. 15 goals in 31 starts in National South is not to be sneezed at but it sounds like one of those give him go, pay him a little and if it comes good; great! If it doesnt; no matter.

Wait...YEAR OF THE STAG was actually originally said by Radford?! I must have either not realised that at the time or forgot it since. I thought it was just a 1FF thing
