I have a feeling Nicky Maynard will be signing for Vale tomorrow.

Are you suggesting he may be revealed during the revealing of our new away kit? Tideswell responded to a fan with a pair of eyes so could be done. Was at Vale twice earlier in the week.

If we get him he is exactly what we need! From the likes of Angus, Quigley, Hooper, Forrester, Patterson and Big Reg it would be good to have the choice of Pope, Cullen and Maynard! Three very capable hit men at this level. In the past we lose Pope we’ve had to really scrape the barrel for options to cover him!

Aaron Ramsdale, David Brookes, Aaron Mooy,Rob Holding.....Need i go on left for little or nothing

All you've done here is highlight how badly we've handled our youth prospects over the years.

We've actually been quite successful in developing talent but we can't seem to keep hold of them to progress into the first team. As well as the ones you mention we've lost Tyler Walker, Kyle Bartley, Jack Harrison and more all as teenagers for nothing.

Should be different now, without an U23s our promising teenagers actually have a direct pathway straight to the first team, much like Darcy, Politic, Brockbank and Alexander now who are getting their chances and will actually end up commanding fees.

The debate was about the cost of keeping a Academy open.
Tyler Walker was only with us on loan..It is obviously easier to break into a first team when you are in lge 1/2

Yes I know, but you can't use us as much of an example, better ran clubs would have made millions from the prospects we have lost or let go for nominal fees.

And you're right, apologies. I meant Ashley Fletcher, not Tyler Walker.

Bolton have lost out in transfers throughout its history. Its not something new, i have a feeling those days are over

Getting to the Championship and being competitive takes a fuck load of outlay, look at the amount Lansdown has had to pump into Bristol City to get them established there. Bournemouth really went shit or bust too, which 9 times out of 10 could have totally fucked them up.

Is it really worth putting a clubs future on the line just to try and compete at Championship level? Imo unless you can average at least 12-15k crowds it's too much of a stretch for most clubs
Agreed. You look at Rotherham now, who are a bit of a yo-yo club and they bank their £8m or so in the Championship, drop down and are always big payers, go back up, bank a bit more etc etc.

Wycombe have said they'll do similar and run a fairly tight budget, preferring to bank the cash to keep them competitive in L1 when they come back down, which you'd imagine will be next season.

Apparently we have Theo Robinson on trial. Something tells me he might not be very good but his record lately looks alright?
He did well for us in the NL but only scored goals in the FA Cup. For some bizarre reason, his finishing completely left him In league games.

Just over three years ago now but he wasn't a bad player. Took a while to get him up to speed but once he did, he was good at running the channels, holding the ball up and bringing others into play. One of those strikers who struggled to understand the offside rule. He had the pace to be able to stay a yard onside but always mistimed his runs.

After having a £150k bid turned down earlier today, Peterborough have made an improved bid for Ryan Broom which appears to have been accepted.

I assume this will pave the way for getting Matty Blair in, but Broom will be an almighty miss if he does go.

Am i missing something here over a 1000 players were released this pre season. Unless this Ryan Broom is a world beater why are clubs in the lower leagues paying fees for bang average players.

We picked 14 players up this pre season for exactly £0.00 including agent fees. Yes we are proberbly paying some decent wages but paying a fee is sheer madness.
Evatt came out this week and said he was briefly in negotiations with a player released from a league 1 club who wanted a pay rise to join Bolton. Negotiations quickly ended and stated perhaps players should think of why they were released.
If the is a second wave this winter many teams will not survive

Peterborough have a recent history of bringing in younger players from L2/Conference and selling them for a lot of money. Ryan Broom is 23 and can still improve a lot, perhaps he plays great for Peterborough and gets sold for triple he was bought for.

How many of Bolton's players they've brought in on frees will be sold for anything?

Broom is a lot better than “bang average” anyway. Was one of Cheltenham’s most important players last season. Hopefully for Cheltenham’s sake they’ve put a sell on clause in on any deal.

Yeah but all the free agents are still holding on to the hope of being signed by Bolton.

It’s not really about whether he’s better than Sarcevic now. It’s about his value in the future. Sarcevic will be 30+ when his contract is up with you - value, nil. Doyle will be 35+ - value nil. Your 2 biggest wage earners are, in fact, worthless.

Which is why if Evatt fucks it up, you’re lumbered with these 2 - and their wages - for a few years. It’s a huge financial gamble by Bolton.

Broom was excellent last season, on the day we played either player Broom was far better but unfair to judge off one or two performances.

Broom is outstanding at this level though whenever I have seen him be it against us or on TV

I keep seeing quotes from Evatt going on about people’s comments regarding Bolton spending, why is he even bothering? His head is gone already.

Bet every team in lge 2 wish they were lumbered with Doyle and Sarcevic

I expect our two biggest wage earners this season have not been bought in yet

I have to disagree there. The two or (max) three more that we do bring in will only be back ups. Evatt did well to get our business done early, we are pretty much set starting 11 wise.
