When he was a kid his parents took him to Cleethorpes for the day and since then he’s been a big fan of ours and always dreamed of one day playing regularly in Cleethorpes and now his dreams are finally going to come true.

Good pro, would have liked him to stay. RB is prob his best position but did well in midfield last season when we were thin on the ground in the centre of the park. Can also play LB but he is very right-footed. Not the quickest either but will do a good job in L1 / upper reaches of L2.

Yeah he mentioned can help at Midfield too, Clough loves someone who can move about position wise.

I thought he was average with his distribution, though frequently also there was little he could do.

I expect more from him this year.

I’d be extremely surprised to see him rocking up at Swindon. His family and more importantly his children (childcare) are settled up here and with him coming to the end of his career, I can’t see him moving back down there.

I also can’t see him wanting to drop down to league 2 level either, which would rule us out.

Genuine question but has it been reported that we were in for him? We're well stocked on midfielders albeit he's probably light years ahead of Alex Gilliead and I'd never heard of him until 5 minutes ago.

I think Grimsby have done decent business this summer with you lot on here have been going a bit overboard but this one looks really good.

Everything I watched/read after we were linked I liked. Not sure how interested we were but can’t help feeling this could turn out to be another Moxon situation for us.

They make 4 signings a week, so yes. But it's not easy to keep everyone happy in a squad of 38 players.

Yep, I can confirm Grimsby blew us out of the water with the fee (believed to be very high) and the wages (believed to be very high also).

Grimsby Chairman described as being "the Lincolnshire Todd Boehly" by a few who were close to the deal at our end.

If Hurst doesn't get out of the traps early doors this season, he's finished for me. I said that with a heavy heart because I like the man. But these are promotion figures.

Brennan Dickenson is training with the club today too, any Colchester fans?

He was the best left-sided player in the league in 2016/17 without a doubt - all the pace and power you could need and an unbelievable left foot with a really clean, wicked strike. Scored some outrageous goals from wing back.

Suffered a bad ACL injury at the end of that season when it was widely expected he was set for a big money move to Ipswich and was never the same afterwards. Lost his edge and seemed to be playing within himself somewhat, so whether it had a toll on him mentally too I'm not sure.

I'm not sure that he has since pulled up any trees with Carlisle and was injured in his first season there too I think.

The few times I saw Conteh last season he looked decent. Nice and tidy on the ball (good with both feet too) and a good size too. I'd say more one for the future than a player who is going to blow the league away this season though.

Hurst is obviously too nice a man though to be included with the Going For It mercenaries.
