You flip that around also and say why did you wait until then.

We were after him for weeks but I think we were trying to talk them down from 500k. Then MK Dons jumped in on the last day and forced our hand.

Should have just paid them what they asked for at the outset in hindsight. It is a little much though.

Stockport County.
Can't blame Harrogate really. They asked for 500k all summer and stuck to their guns. Not their fault Wrexham only blinked so late.

All clubs should work together more though.

I do wonder if something funny happened with the Hanlan deal as it seemed he was set on coming here before we went back to Armstrong.

It's hard to be too critical without knowing the full ins and outs, but I'll admit that I'm not happy that we had this long to find a striker and failed. I just hope Mullin isn't our for too much longer.

I'd wager that clubs wanted stupid money off of us before then.

Not like we weren't paying stupid money for Armstrong anyway but they'd priced us out earlier in the window by demanding £500k.
But they obviously didn't price you out because you were about to pay it?

Yep. He's back in non-contact training by all accounts but i'd expect to see him at the start of October if we're being realistic. If earlier, then great!
Heard a rumour that Mullin is fit and ready to play he's just waiting until after our match so he doesn't have to face Luke Waterfall bullying him again.

Waterfall would definitely be elbowing him in the ribs all game. Massive shithouse.

Are we sure it was £500k? All we know is that it was higher than MK Dons' offer and that was rumoured to be £375k.

I read on here that it was 500k according to an MK Dons fan on another forum, that's good enough for me. GOSPEL.

Yep that big gorilla Waterfall will be all over that.
A big gorilla is exactly what's needed on a flat track clogger like Mullin.

A reliable source said it was closer to 600k than 500k
Yes Wrexham fans being absolute idiots here, we all know the more you struggle the more it rises. It's like quicksand. They could have settled on 475k but I can confirm today that I have seen confirmation was that the final fee was set to rise to 625k after their inevitable promotion.

I’m sworn to secrecy who’s actually on the committee, but it does include a Grimsby, Stockport, and obviously Mansfield fan. True transfer fee experts I assure you.

Gillingham budget would literally be at least £1.5m smaller if they learned, ultimately I think they did but at great expense to the club.

I heard the fee was ‘undisclosed’. From our experience, that is usually about £2.5k and some new training cones.

I reckon undisclosed fees just give the green light for money laundering. I bet both clubs put different amounts into their accounts.

PL fees are disclosed - almost a promotional thing.

Hearing the Armstrong delay was caused by Stocky being out of office and thus the details of the deal couldn't be uploaded to the spreadsheet within the appropriate timeframe.

Looks like we dodged a bullet. I still can't believe we were about to pay 850k for Armstrong.

20k a week too.
And now Peterboro chairman has stated you were the other club interested in JCH but did not put a bid in.

We are the transfer fee leverage team atm.
Aye you're right there. Lets use Wrexham's name to exaggerate interest and get a false bidding war to get as much as possible.

Wonder if the Armstrong deal would give ins and outs on the documentary next year, showing the £2.1m fee for him failing.

Darragh MacAnthony says you were more than leverage. Well done you probably just got yourself another season in L2'...

"The week before, Wrexham had made calls about him and intimated that they were going to make an offer," the Peterborough owner said. "Wrexham signing Clarke-Harris, it's like automatic double promotion. It just is, the guy's a goal machine.
"When they came in, I understood why. They can pay him a lot more than we can and that would be a stand out signing for them. Then they just went completely quiet and dead. It was really weird. I know that they spoke to the agent about terms, Barry (Fry, Peterborough director of football) had spoken to the chief execs, spoke to the manager.
"My manager said, 'look, I'm going to need a replacement lined up.' And then they just went dead. It was really, really bizarre. Charlton had tried and then Bristol Rovers."

Can’t believe they were also offering £2.5m for JCH.
