Theoretically that's a brilliant signing. I do find it a bit weird that no one from a higher division has shown a serious interest, though.

They have. He's had offers from Championship, League One and League Two clubs (yourselves obviously).

WhI? I thought the whole point was that he was going to sign for you if he didn't get any offers from higher up.

He was hanging on for a "top Championship club". He got offers from bottom half Championship clubs (Rotherham was one of them apparently, not sure on the other one).

Craig Mackhail-Smith is the one Boro player that I wish we'd had at some point, was a cracking player back in the day. If he's got half the ability he used to have then Luton have got themselves an excellent signing, potential to be the best of the summer.

I hope he fails dismally, mind. ;-)

To trump Luton's capture of Mackail-Smith, Rovers have completed the short-term signing of striker/winger Billy Bodin :bg:

It's a 3 month deal, which works in our favour, as Bodin now has to prove he is worthy of a longer contract.

Robinson will do very well for you if he can stay clear of the usual injuries. Very odd decision of Pompey to let him go but I guess it was to pave the way for Matt Clarke, as Robinson was on good money.

I'm still not convinced CMS is as good a signing as some are making out but we'll see. He's probably lost his edge having being injured a lot. Could end up being a fantastic signing, but I think this is probably about his level now.

We're still discussing with Peterborough the possible transfer of Jack Payne to us, its a good thing I'm not a Luton fan or this rumour would've rumbled on in this thread for weeks and weeks ;):p

Pleased that CMS is finally sorted. Good signing on paper but then again so was Drury last year so we'll wait and see how it turns out.

For what it's worth from what I've seen he has been very impressive in his pre season outings and not seemed to be knackered from injury. Pre season though so you can never tell for sure.

A 'normally very reliable' ITK type on an unknown forum has said that he may or may not sign for you or for another unknown club within the next month, bloody riveting stuff!

County chasing Izale McLeod and are willing to pay £110,000 as he is still under contract. The fee would be covered by the wages we would have used on CMS. (We offered CMS 1.5k a week more than what he is on at Luton)

We offered CMS 85k a year more than what he is on at Luton. So if he is on 8k at Luton (which I massively doubt) then yes. He will be on about 5k a week

IMO I'm glad we didn't get CMS with the money we were offering him. We have enough fire power with Stead, Spencer, and a fully fit Murray. They will score enough goals between them to get us promoted. It's evident you don't need a 25 goal striker to get out of a division. Just need everyone to chip in. And with the attacking threat we now have, can't see it being a problem

That hard on will be a mild softy unless he bags 20+ on that type of crazy money.

I was trying on the stereotypical Luton fan thing for size but decided to revert to type as its unbecoming
of me.

He isn't on 8k a week but i agree, a little worried about how much we'll be relying on him for goals.

Did actually hear John Still say in his interview RE: the signing of CMS... "He's no Bingham, but he'll do"

We've taken the odd step of releasing a statement to say we've bad a £100k bid rejected for McLeod.

The old Football Manager trick. Not sure how much they expect, he's got a year left and the entire world knows they're completely skint. Do they really think people believe they'll sit one of their highest earners in the stands for an entire season just to prove a point when they could pocket 100k instead?!

And Jack Payne was seen playing for Southend today... But the actual one we're interested in was also at Roots Hall in the stands. So it's gone from him coming to the training camp in Spain with us, to returning to Peterborough, to basically signing for Doncaster (if the rumours were believed), to being on Peterborough's bench, to coming back to watch Orient. Saga much?

Izale isn't playing in the friendlies. He is stating he is ill. Yates says he doesn't want to be at Crawley but if nobody matches our valuation he is not going and can spend the season in the stand. Yeah right! We are trying to start a bidding war. Please feel free to join in. He is too good for this division imho but quite a few goals comes from penalties that he wins by div... er... being fouled in the box.

I expect him to be in league 1 next season.

Be surprised if anyone matches, let alone beats, that offer of £100k for a 30+ year old with only a year left on his contract.

Fans love to turn a player with a double-barrelled surname in to a 3 letter acronym don't they?

Double-barrel names are sooooo twenty-first century. Pretty much anyone's allowed one these days.

In 20 years time when Mr Huntly-Imboobalala marries Miss Templeton-Escobar and their first born Shaggy signs terms to lead the line for Ebbsfleet United, I wonder what the Fleet massive will shorten his name down to?

Suppose he's not very good at football, either?
