I'd have him at Barnet. Him and Akinde could do some serious damage up front together. They might also score a few too.

Doubt that we'd pay his wages though.

As much as I'd love to see defenders absolutely shit themselves with those two upfront, I don't think they'd work as a pair. They both need mobility next to them, or atleast someone terrier-like (like Gash). Bit too similar to play in a 2 upfront, unfortunately.

My comment about Beano was demonstrating exactly why I am not worried about Hylton going.

Beano still being in the conference and the players we replaced him with are exactly why I am not too bothered.

Fair point. Re-read your post and can see where you were coming from with Beano now. The parallels are clear.

Was just the Appleton not rating Hylton thing that bugged me. People have been saying that for about four transfer windows!

The only concern I have is that we now need a couple of strikers rather than just the one with Hylton back up. That could be more expensive. But in terms of the team, Hylton's not exactly a Bradshaw or Gregory. Which hard as it'll be to find, is what we'll need.

He was ok with us but by the time he got here we had given up. Then, just as he got going he got injured. Didn't play again until the last two games where we were little short of awful (two 3-0 losses).

Hard to accurately judge him but I'd say a good league two striker but I can understand why Wolves released him as he is not Championship standard.

Casey
Cheers. He certainly should have a point to prove after being released, so I am pleased we've signed a player who wants to nail down a first team place.

He looks to have a bit of pace about him plus he's over 6ft which we usually lack....

Hopefully a good signing

Hylton was twice Oxford supporters' player of the season and rejected a new contract at the Us.

If I was an Oxford fan right now I wouldn't be happy!
Disappointed he's left, he was a cult hero here, but he's not prolific in League 2, and is wasteful, so there was always a doubt about how he'd cope at the next level, you have got a good player though, i'd imagine you offered him a very good deal, both financially and also probably a year or maybe even more longer than we did, and he has a young family in London so it is a fair decision from him, hope he does well for you.

2 encouraging signings for Luton there, Mullins is a very good CB and Hylton is a real handful up top even if i do think he's a ****. Just reminded me what on earth happened to Mackail Smith?

He's completely past it, lost a yard or three of pace and as a result rarely if ever gets in the box in time to be threatening. Still works his nuts off but his goal threat is basically zero in most games these days.

I don't see Akinde and Akinfenwa as that similar, apart from the the physical pain they can inflict on defenders.

Akinde is all about mobility. Does his best work running towards goal, preferably when defences have pushed up and have left space for him to gallop into. Usually ending with a clumsy challenge and a penalty.

Akinfenwa is much better suited to playing a target man role. Can hold the ball up and bring others into play, but can also knock the ball on to a running partner. He's also much more of a threat if defences drop deep as he can create around the box, using him to play wall passes off, and he's a real threat in the air in the box, something Akinde isn't, for all of his size and muscle.

I think they'd be a great combination.

The local papers think we're going to sign someone called Jamie Devitt from Morecambe. He sounds pretty good so I won't get my hopes up until it's confirmed.

Joe Wright has signed for Doncaster on a free from Huddersfield, spent last season on loan at Accrington

Because we're a very huge football club, anyone would leave fucking Huddesfield for us.

Nathan Tyson first failure to be off-loaded. :giphy:

Although he was with us on loan last season, Ipswich have released Josh Yorwerth (a CB) and he's signed for a year with us now.
Prone to mistakes and his fiery temper can be a liability but hopefully that will improve with the different coaching Drummy brings.

Rangers apparently in for our skipper Curtis Nelson. Bugger off Rangers. You're not allowed to captain a team in green and white and then move to Rangers anyway.

Jamie Devitt is exactly the type of player we need, a natural winger, creative, can cross a ball, bit of pace and that's what we've been missing out wide for years.

So naturally, I can't wait to see him play central midfield for us!

In all seriousness though be a cracking signing if we pull it off and, dare I say it, would be an upgrade on the effort deprived fraud that is Bradden Inman, who can't cross, who has no pace, who isn't necessarily a natural winger and can only create things when he's arsed.

Devitt was crap when he came back to us in The Conference, seemed like a shadown of the player who almost singlr handedly saved us from relegation in 09/10.

Danny Hylton took the puss out of Josh at Crawley last season. Wound him up and got him to forget to play the game. Kept trying to kick Hylton into the stand and consequently left large gaps for players to run into. Good play by Hylton but the type of thing Josh was doing at the end of the season.

Seemed to have ended up at quite a few places before Morecambe. However 17 assists at this level is a very good total and we need people in the side who can create chances as our play has been so disjointed over the last few years.

Just hope he's not another Lee Molyneux really!

Oh yeah, 17 assists is indeed a decent haul. Wasn't aware of that!

It's a slight whiff of usual tactic of talking up our chances of signing half decent players before they go elsewhere.

Let's hope not but beyond the headlines the news is: we've offered Devitt a deal but he's got plenty of other, possibly better, offers.

Do you remember him doing star jumps in front of Mansfield's keeper to try and put him off while we were lining up a free kick at Field Mill?!
It didn't work the free kick hit the wall and we lost 2 - 0 but at least he tried!

Suppose this is the advantage of dropping down a level. Decent players at this level are now more in our price range, whereas in the last few seasons, we've signed players from this level for the one above but they haven't been able to cut it.

If(and its a big if) we signed Devitt, he's the kind of signing that probably copes well at this level, but it not quite good enough for the league above. Hope he gets signed, it sounds promising.

Cambridge have just signed Piero Mingoia.
Yep, I can't remember him. Played 22 games last season at Accrington, 37 and 36 respectively the two seasons before. Any thoughts anyone?

I tell you something that has absolutely done my nut in this last month or so.

Crewe fans on Mad, Facebook, Twitter and the like literally linking us to nearly every player we've released in the last three or four years. Morecambe release Adam Dugdale for not being good enough "Bring him home", Shrewsbury transfer list Matt Tootle "Bring him home" Plymouth's Kelvin Mellor out of contract "Bring him home" Ajay Leitch-Smith rejects a contract at Vale "Bring him home" Abdul Osman released from Partick, Mathias Pogba a free agent at Partick, Antoni Sarcevic released by Fleetwood (since signed for Shrewsbury), Michael O'Connor released by Vale, Byron Moore on his way out of Vale, Uche's a free agent after Watford released him and the world will end now the woeful Brad Inman is leaving us. I've even seen nonsensical posts that say we should put in a cheap bid to Carlisle for Mark Ellis!

Seriously are our fans so used to mediocrity and failure that they believe the only way for us to progress forward is to bring back a ton of players who have all experienced failure with us in the last few years? I don't mind us signing an ex player in Lowe because he can offer so much more than say Haber, but when mental toughness is something that just isn't in our squad, why do we think going back and signing those we castaway in the last few years would make any difference to our league position?

Give me Devitt and other young and hungry professionals a chance at this club over our rejects any day of the week!
