What is your club record fee? I'm pretty sure ours is still the £250k fee we paid for Jason Lee who turned out to be absolutely useless.

Jason Lee is the only Notts player I’ve ever seen get the lesser-spotted three match ban for accumulating 15 yellow cards.

I don’t think Crowley would’ve been a particularly good fit at Mansfield. He’s different to DKD and needs to play in a team with huge possession figures to get the best out of him I reckon.

Well we paid Peterborough 300k but that was for two players, so it’s that or you split it down the middle.

No idea what we offered, we sold Will Swan and DKD yesterday that ultimately will make us over seven figures so not short of a few bob.

Crowley in a Clough side would have been so weird I simply don’t believe the rumour at all

How much did we pay for Kabongo? :pond:

Sure it was around that mark if not slightly more

As Jacob said, Dan Crowley is a concept that only really works in high possession teams where he can have a luxurious amount of touches and drop deeper and deeper to get them depending on the opposition, that is not the hallmark of a Nigel Clough midfielder.

Obviously not intended to cause offence, Clough’s great and built a great side but that is just objectively true. If you were after someone like Jones? That would make more sense (albeit I think you’d have far more competition for his signature)

Jones is obviously absolutely quality but I’m not sure he has the work rate for a Cloughie side, we would have to work the entire team around him which is very uncloughlike

That’s basically what I meant with Crowley, he’s a passenger when you don’t have the ball, proper luxury player who we’ve basically got the best out of by building a team around him and playing in a way that suits him. Much more so than Jones who works really hard, he just doesn’t have a single defensive instinct in his brain.

That makes more sense regarding Crowley, I reckon he has the ability to adapt though, as must Clough. I really do rate him enough to do that. DKD did put in a shift defensively but our entire attack pretty much centered around him.

Jones may work really hard within that Notts County side but it’s nowt compared to what’s expected in our side and probably any L1 side. Another issue is his attitude, he lost his head and pretty much gave up in the second half at Field Mill last season - I have never seen a single player do that under Clough. Nevertheless his quality will see him play higher very soon im sure.

Don’t think Langstaff has much chance in the champ if I’m being honest, im skeptical he’s going to be effective enough at L1 never mind the champ.

My understanding was that around 200k but with add ons that could take it over our record, but those things never happened what with his broken leg, us missing promotion whilst he was here and stuff.

Wouldn't see Langstaff having an issue with L1 at all, his canny knack to be in the right place in the box, make the right movement easily translates to a level above the one where he scored loads and finished top scorer.

Millwall never felt the right place for him but they paid the big bucks so got their man.

Like a lot of flair players he is definitely temperamental, but his work rate is very good for a winger. If Clough signed either talented attacking player no doubt he would play then at full back. It's what he does.

Dwight Gayle currently training with Vale but thought to be more likely to be as a favour.

Suppose if nothing comes in for him we might be tempted until January, he’s not earning anything currently so…

I hear that! Having a B team does seem a bit mad. We've got a youth team, maybe it's just terminology?
The B team are only playing in cups this season and all the players signed specifically for it are u-21. Most players playing for them will be players returning from injury or who need the minutes. They played in a league last season - but one team (may have been Sunderland) couldn't fulfil their fixtures. It basically gets us the chance to get players fit whilst also looking at 3/4/5 young players who were at PL/Championship academies for an extended period of time. It also gives those players a chance to prove themselves. Of the 4/5 we signed for it last season one got kept on for this year, one got a contract at Waterford and another got a contract at Halifax.

Luka Ashby-Hammond on loan to Gillingham. He's been with a few clubs (Crawley when L2, Notts County). he played a lot of matches for Aldershot, but to be fair, 2 years can be a long time for a young goalie.

So my question is, I guess mostly for Notts County fans, is he rubbish?
Just seen this.

Really competent keeper for two games then has a stinker. Then back to a competent keeper again. Training with Glenn will help him.

Emmanuel was awful for us last season, like seriously bad.

But to be fair, he was playing in a terrible team, in the league above. Maybe dropping back to this level and playing in a team that doesn’t have as much defending to do, will see him find some form.

Luke Daniels our GK coach has apparently signed a playing contract so he can cover Farman next week if needed. He played 19 games in L2 last season at FGR.

Sounds like we had a club record bid rejected for Dan Crowley some point this week.
He must be on a decent wedge, apparently we were in for him after he left Morecambe and he opted for L2
