Interesting! Vale as expected although Burton at 5 seems to be a surprising one! Macc have us at 2 despite us not even listing them and of course Crewe hate us the most!

The historical Vale-Walsall rivalry still has both in 4th whilst the more recent beef with Shrewsbury is still in the memory.

Outside the league Stoke hate us the most with Crewe surprisingly not even making their hate list and the biggest surprise is that Burton rank Vale as their biggest rivals.

I am really made up, with tears in my eyes, that nobody hates the Stags, Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Not sure who was asked – I wasn’t.

I suspect the questionnaire asked for 5 teams you hate, rather than just teams you hate in same division.

I can’t speak for Cheltenham but they are the only team that FGR really enjoy beating BUT we don’t hate them. They are local rivals.

FGR don’t have same level of rivalry with any other team, so most FGR fans would just nominate Cheltenham and nobody else.

Last year Tranmere could possibly have had FGR near top of their list, but they’ve moved on and we are now in their history.

Mine would be Stoke first, Vale second (just the era I started supporting us in, I'll never hate Vale like I hate Stoke) but after that it's a toss up and it doesn't help that our traditional rivals are now pretty much established in non league. I don't see Macc, Tranmere and Shrewsbury as fierce rivals. In fact, I actually like the former two I've mentioned there as clubs.

We never played Macclesfield in a league game until 2009 so I can't see how it's a rivalry except that we're both in Cheshire and that's about it. On the other hand, Tranmere are the club we've played more than any other in the Football League so I'd regard it as a long-term friendly rivalry and nothing more. Tranmere tend to have their eyes on the Greater Manchester clubs whereas we've had our eyes on The Potteries for rivalries in the last 20 years. Shrewsbury were the local whipping boys you almost felt sorry for when I started supporting Crewe and were our feeder club for many years and sold us a fair few duds even if Dave Walton was good for us. Until the last 10 years, league games between ourselves and Shrewsbury were very few and far between, so they're just not rivals. They've come a long long way from their non league season though, so they deserve credit for the way their club has transformed in those years.

If it included non league clubs I'd absolutely put Stockport third for sending us down in 2009 only for us to consign them to the non league two years later. We've hardly had league games with Chester and Wrexham but if we were to play each other regularly again, I believe a rivalry of some sort would resume. Chester were our traditional rivals for many many years, and the Anglo-Welsh dimension means ourselves and Wrexham would resume a decent rivalry that has been dormant for so long.

Mine would be 1. Wrexham 2. Chester 3. Stoke.

Nice try daft lad.

Says it all about your clubs insignificance to everyone else when your 5 'rivals' are three massive clubs you've never played competitively since pussy was a kitten, Preston who you don't even feature in their list and fucking Morecambe

Glad you're still thinking of us though!
Who said we considered any of them our rivals? The problem with surveys like this is the fans being surveyed will have been asked which other league club they felt the biggest rivalry with and having the option to just say 'well nobody really'.

We did play Sunderland competitively in the FA cup five years ago too. The main bone of contention with them was their fans' belief that Carlisle are too small a team for anyone to support as their main team, so we must all be Newcastle fans just turning out to see our local team, and therefore must be treated as such.

I make it easier for myself - I hate every fucker!

So, who has an irrational - or rational - hatred for some random club.

Among a few, mine is Watford.

Wouldn't really consider Luton our second rival anymore, usually Northampton have that honour. Then Col U, Orient and a few others. We played Luton too many times in a short space of time but I don't think anyone is particularly arsed now.

Personally wouldn’t say Cambridge were rivals, seeing as we both share a mutual dislike of Peterborough

Interesting to see we made it onto Stevenage’s list as well

Are Forest Greens rivals just those clubs that don't do anything to support the local footballing community of Stroud and Nails worth, this if it wasn't for FGR the game wouldn't even exist in that part of the country?

'League of Hate'.

Ok fair enough.

I dislike you 5th most. That could change, depending on how much of a pedant you're gonna be about it.

In our defence Rovers, Lincoln and Wycombe were all 9% for us which just implies that the sample size is small and we don't really have any rivals other than Plymouth.

We pity Torquay and there's no real rivalry at all with Yeovil.
I'd say ours was right, Lincoln might look weird but there's not a lot of love for them with the Cowleys antics at our place. In fact I'm surprised they aren't on everyone's list!

Surprised Wigan haven't creaped into ours. Our games around 2002-06 were quite tasty and there wasn't much love lost.

I don’t know if the Cowley’s would be enough to qualify someone as a rival? Even a loose one...

Teams you hate and teams you consider rivals are completely different, or else Man U would be top of most clubs lists.

I once knew a Leeds fan who hated QPR because of some personal issues with a QPR fan earlier in his life, weird but it’s all down to the individual.

A good indicator is which fixtures you look for first when the fixtures get released...
If your an Exeter fan this season I presume it’s Argyle followed by Newport?

Also Torquay seem to be on the up these days, you might not be pitying them for too much longer.

Other rivalries that won’t have been mentioned because it doesn’t include non-league clubs:

Shrewsbury - Telford and Hereford
Yeovil - Weymouth
Mansfield - Chesterfield and Notts County
Rochdale - Stockport

Stevenage - Barnet also a noticeable absence.

I still despise Dave Whelan and Eddie Wolstenholme (the ref that sent Sodje off) to this day. But warmed to Wigan in the PL era. Especially when they did Man City in at Wembley.

Shrewsbury vs Hereford was a very tasty rivalry in the early part of this decade tbf. Some very bad tempered games between the pair on and off the pitch. Seem to remember Hereford burning Shrewsbury flags one year on a Tuesday Night which caused a lot of bother.

What about teams with no genuine rivals at all?

Off the top of my head:

Crawley
Bournemouth
Salford
Coventry (?) - they seem to have something with Leicester but not very substantial, even Leicester could be considered a club without any genuine rival...

Carlisle have loose ones with ones north-east clubs but again nothing feisty... perhaps Barrow or historically Workington?

Shrewsbury v Telford would be a good spectacle, 15 Miles between them at a guess and not played competitively in decades...

It’s always those type of rarely seen rival fixtures that are the best I think, Stoke v Vale is another example.

If you ask Oldham fans over the age of 35 I'm pretty sure they absolutely despise Manchester United for costing them two trips to FA Cup Finals as well as several league meetings between the pair in the early 90s.

I am under the age of 35 and Man Ure are absolutely the team I hate the most. They ruined my life before I was even born and there’s not one person on this forum who doesn’t know a reds fan who claims to be a ‘huge’ fan despite having set foot in OT no more than a handful of times. Can’t stand the bastards.

For younger fans, Rochdale and Bury have provided rivalry but that’s only because more traditional rivals like Bolton, Blackburn and Hudds have left us behind. Special mention for Tranmere too who don’t appear on our list.

The Potteries Derby is another level and doesn’t feel like it but has been 17 long years. In fact prior to that it was regular for a couple of decades and the break in it was down to them being a league below!

We’ve a great record against the Lardies too. 4 defeats in 20 matches since 1989 and unbeaten in six, winning the last one of course... still can play it second by second from sat behind the goal and the Shitannia... Throw in flicks of the back of Micky Cummins head and pea rolls past Cutler seemed to take an age!

Also enjoyed the 4-0 at Huddersfield which kept us up in 1998 sending the Lardies to the third tier along with Man City... how times change.

Anyhow the place is chaos on Derby day and the press build up the A500 derby against Crewe but it isn’t even a tenth of the big one. Just have to see the chaos last season in the Checkatrade tie! Smashed our ground up and sold the away end in hours. Whilst of course a lot of our fans had to come out of boycotting in response to avoid Smurfs threat of giving them the home stand!

Cars smashed nearby, the away end was at risk of not hosting the next away game and as per standard the Lardies managed to make national headlines and disgraced themselves in what was billed as a no lose situation for them prior!

True close city derby where we hate each other and in two working class clubs.... just need Agent Jones to hang on in charge of them and we might get it back sooner!
