I really don't get this 'tin pot following'.

All it really means is that certain clubs can crow they've got more daytrippers than someone else.

How many of them will ever go to a league game?

If we took such a shit amount both set of fans would take the piss. That said, it's not really achievement to have a load of day trippers.

Now if these clubs were regularly getting under 10k at home, now that would be tinpot.

For all the weirdo's who like attendances, we've sold 22,000 before being put on general sale today.

What if were to tell you, there was a club in a league, this season just gone....

They were the best team in that league all season, and were eventual Champions.

Thing is....this particular club is based in a city of half a million people, but they very rarely sold out the home sections of a stadium with a capacity of under only 14,000

Would that shock you pal? I find that quite staggering, don't you?

I won't mention which club this is, though. I wouldn't want to embarrass them.

21000.

Maybe pay on the day for the £30 seats

And come the final whistle neither the Swindon fans nor the PNE fans will give a flying fuck how many fans they took if they've won.

And in the scheme of things the 82ers will be regarded as tinpot by the majority of the other Championship teams.

But, then again, this attendance thing is all bollocks anyway - you are what you are.

I'm surprised at the low sales so far but can't say I particularly give a fuck. I'll be there and so will my family and friends who I go to games with. That's all I give a shit about.

Unless we lose, then they can all fuck off.

You can talk. You're struggling to get over 20k, and Wembley is a 30p bus ride away from Swindon. And I don't care if you've played there fairly recently, or not.

We'll still have 25k there, at least. Which is about 20% of the population of Preston.

That's a decent effort, considering the travel bollocks we're having to put up with.

All right, calm down. I was just making the point...

Tough to call a winner in this one. One the one hand, Preston have 2 bang in form strikers and a rock solid defence, but Swindon are playing some excellent football and will be high in confidence themselves. You have to think that Preston will win out, Garner and Beckford should be able to get chances and you'd fancy Prestons defence to keep the likes of Gladwin and Smith out. But, Preston do tend to fall to pieces in big games, so Swindon have a chance there. Going for a Preston win, but hoping Swindon prevail.

I'd do some research next time before you embarrass yourself (again).

Regardless of the fact we've been to Wembley twice in recent years, I'm sure that if any trains were running at all AND the cheap tickets were on sale then we'd have taken a similar amount that we took to Millwall, which was 32k.

The above has to be taken into consideration before calling our effort shite.

Same for Preston; they'd be bringing more if there were trains.

The home ends at Ashton Gate weren't full every game, in fairness, 'rarely' might be a bit much.

Most of your fans agree that Bristol City's home crowds are very low considering the size of the city and with the lack of competing clubs in the area.

Bit rich that you're commenting on the crowds of a club which is in a city a 1/4 of the size and based in the North West, 30 minutes from Manchester and Liverpool. In recent seasons we get what? 1,000-1,500 less than Bristol City? on average.

Glass houses and all that.

Oh for sure we'd both have sold more.

I still think both of our numbers are respectable though, given the circumstances.

Too bad fans of a certain club won't accept that though, and are still scrounging for the attention to still be on their club, despite the season being well and truly over with for them.

You may of took a few more but certainly not another 12k. There is trains for preston fans they just have to get a bus from crewe to preston i think. Its still 2 decent followings in my opinion over twice both of your home averages. Teams who take 3/4/5 × there average home support means fuck all apart from most of them are just pretend fans.

Maybe people just can't afford it?
Yep. The pricing policy decided by the FA/FL/Wembley turns attending this game in to a luxury purchase for most. Getting a family of 4 to this game - including ticket price, travel, food & drink - will cost between £300 and £400 for the day. And all for a game that you can watch in the pub for free anyway.

If anyone thinks that football is still 'the people's game', here's your proof that it is not. Wembley's owners will have priced thousands of our fans out of attending with these ridiculous ticket prices. Times are still hard and while Swindon is a good place to find a job, many of those jobs provide modest incomes. A lot of our fans will simply not have the disposable income to be able to spend that kind of money on a day out at the football.

So if we do see a sharp drop in the number of seats filled by Swindon fans at Wembley this time around, it won't be because 10,000 of us have simultaneously decided that we don't give a fuck any more. The reason for the drop in the attendance will be much simpler: the cost. People know when they're being ripped off. If the owners of Wembley are smart, they will sit up and listen. And maybe, in future, they will start charging a reasonable price for games like these that the working man can afford.

I'm not even sure if that's an option any more, my mate has been raging on Twitter for about 2 days, I think he's going to single handedly bring the rail networks to their knees.

Any chance of talking about the game?

It can't be a coincidence that both clubs will be about 10,000 fans down on expected levels.

:fl: It was the point you moron, the point YOU made. You've just got shown up, not having a clue what your talking about.

Anyway, seems it's got a bit much so I'll leave you guys to it. Safe journey to all that's going. Enjoy your day. Should be a good game to watch. And I guarantee the atmosphere will be a lot better than our trip due to lack of day trippers.

Yeah that's one positive - those that are there will be the more passionate support, as most day trippers will be in their armchairs.

So what's everyone's prediction then? I've promised myself to just try to enjoy the occasion this time and to not let nerves ruin it, but I think that's going to be hard to do!

You never sold out every home game in a vastly reduced capacity stadium. That's the bottom line. The whole point.

"Rarely sold out", or sold out every single game after Christmas (didn't happen)... I'm not fussed. That is besides the point.

For you to come on an internet football forum and call Preston & Swindon tinpot for not taking 30k fans to Wembley, given the circumstances we face, shows that you're just a bit of a fucking moronic crayon eater.

And you've the nerve to say I got shown up for 'not knowing what I'm on about'?....absolutely staggering idiocy.
