Anyone planning to stop calling it the Conference? Didn't think so.

Almost as daft as the third tier being called League One

When do you think the conference will get a website from post 1948?
This. Hideous site.

Said it in another thread, but given the amount of times it takes days upon end up get any form of match DVD from some Clubs, how long are we going to give it until a highlights programme doesn't include all the games?

They can call it whatever they like, but it'll be the conference to everyone concerned.

The coverage is fantastic to be fair. Might be a bit amateurish and Clem is irritating and rather patronising but you don't get this sort of coverage even at L1 level.

^Agree with the above. Clem is very irritating but I must admit BT do some extremely good quality coverage for this level.

I have been wanting a highlights show for ages. So delighted with this news. But as mentioned above. How long till they dont show all matches and decide to omit our trip to Braintree for example?

Even if they only showed the top sides live, to have dedicated highlights for this level is superb.

The Football League show is basically 95% Championship with a couple of minutes to cover L1 and L2. This seems to be much better for all Conference sides in comparison.

I'd love it if they rotated in and managed to find someone with good experience at this level who can also be a good pundit, even if they only came through towards the end of their careers. Might help cut out some of the patronising stuff.

Doesn't seem too bad branding until you get to the fact it will be the National League North and National League South. Rather oxymoronic... I guess they would just re-name them to Northern League and Southern League if those names weren't already taken! The conference has certainly dealt with far worse branding ever since Blue Square (names were awful, and that stupid blue square mascot thing), and then Skrill and Vanarama - virtually unknown companies! Vauxhall were the big winners for me on the conference naming, they got it at the right time, and held it for long enough that it's what I always knew it as initially, and if I talk about the conference, it's the name others slip in to using.

The likes of NLP writers Simon Elliott and Alan Alger appear to have a proper clue with non-league football, although they have opinions which is always a bit scary for broadcasters (belief that fans deserve a voice, that clubs should be open with journalists, how they think teams will perform etc). Caroline Barker is obviously very good but tied with the BBC. There's a surfeit of sports journos in this world, you just don't want either a rent-a-pundit from outside the game, an uncharismatic/anorakish groundhopping type or a gushing young bloke.

Said the same thing today about the potential National League North/South names. A bit silly, plus the obvious NL/SL names are taken anyway. The National League itself I can happily take and it makes more sense than Conference (Why is a league a "conference"? Did the highest ranked non-league clubs originally meet up and discuss stuff?), and might subliminally be a step towards it being part of the league system/earning three promotion places.

I guess the best thing would be if we stopped all this silliness, and renamed the leagues back to Division 1/2/3/4, then the Conference becomes Division 5/Conference Division 1 with Division 2 North/South, then the Northern/Southern/Cockney League below that etc etc. Would make explaining where your team are to a West Ham fan on a Saturday night tube trip feel slightly easier.

I like the highlights bit but have no idea how it'll be done. Will we all have BT gantries permanently in our grounds with their own special cameras? Or will all the other Conference teams be treated to watching one minute of pixellated, motion lagging footage of the Shaymen on a broken tripod while a bored poly student rustles through his notes to name the Chester loanee who just scored an own goal? Will I get the pleasure of hearing the bumpkin commentators of Grimsby and Lincoln every week on my TV? Will tight DVD submission deadlines keep clubs on their toes when a few in this league can't even pay their players on time? They'd better design a National League testcard screen before they do owt else.

There are a few things in there I want to get round to posting about later, but I thought of another highly relevant point.

The rebranding is to fit the TV channel. NLTV works. CNTV would just be a bad idea!

There you go. I kept it traditional, while making it sound good for the telebox AND above all I did it in 30 seconds for no cost at all.

...and contradictory.

How can a regional league by national?!

Indeed. Cuckoo. But the TV package is long overdue. Very impressed with BT Sport, particularly as they give it to me for nothing with my internet. Though how long that will continue is anybodies guess.

http://www.nonleaguedaily.com/top-stories/national-league-rebrand-now-effective.html

So the National League branding is now officially live... in reading this article, one paragraph jumped out at me...

"Competition Title Sponsor Vanarama, who last month announced a sponsorship extension and further financial support, employed sports marketing agency SportQuake to facilitate the name change and logo design. SportQuake specialise in creating world class two-way partnerships between rights owners and brands."

Congratulations Vanarama, you've employed these SportQuake fellas to make you a new logo & my god does it go a long way to highlight a new bold era in non-league's top flight competition...

Every time I've watched BT's coverage I've been impressed. It's dealt with very professionally and there have been a fair few good exciting games been shown. I think the patronizing aspect comes a little from trying to catch floating viewers who may like watching football but aren't knowledgeable about this level, which I guess is fair enough, if not a little annoying for those of us who are more familiar with the teams, managers and players in this league. Having a highlights show just adds to this. Hopefully the ratings will be good to attract more sponsors into the conference (*cough) sorry national league divisions.

It's mainly fine apart from a few things, namely Adam Virgo who is almost completely clueless about the league it seems. I don't get why he is on it as their main pundit, did he ever play in the Conference? A new presenting team as well as cutting out the ridiculous in-game interviews would help a lot. A manager is trying to do his job and he's got that village idiot Clem sticking a microphone in his face asking daft questions.

The main thing I think about BT's coverage is how they interview managers during games, they don't do it for the premier league games, so why the conference?

I think maybe it is done to show how approachable managers are at this level, there aren't many in the Conference who could be described as "up themselves", which can often apply further up the leagues. The only thing is that they have to avoid the inane and obvious, asking a manager what he intends to do after his team have just gone 3-0 down before half-time might end up with an expletive fuelled reply. That said, I enjoy the coverage from BT, which may be a bit biased as my team occasionally feature, and I reckon they are better overall at presenting football than either Sky or ITV.

It's probably in the agreement that they can do them, Premier League sides on the other hand are too powerful and would never agree to such things. Only time you ever see it usually is in TV charity matches or something, it shouldn't be happening in competitive matches.

All the managers in the conference should refuse to do them which is what Steve Burr does. Probably only a couple of other managers who are professional and do the same.

Unfortunately this probably won't happen because for managers like the chump at Eastleigh, speaking to Clem on live TV is the highlight of their lives.

Agree, Garry Hill does the same.

FWIW I actually think the BT coverage isn't bad. Clem is highly irritating but it's great seeing your players in front of the cameras.

I cannot wait for the first time a manager like peter reid or sam allerdyce is being interviewed live and his team concede a sloppy goal mid interview.... It would be the quickest ' and back upstairs' ever .
