Three League 2 sides still in the cup and all at home, hopefully at least one of you will progress, good luck to you all
Yep... bit of quick maths and assuming all three sell out and deducting away fans, we could see in the region of 40,000 League 2 fans enjoying a cup run. Would be nice if after the weekend that was 40,000 happy fans.

That's an unnatural state of being for League 2 club fans!

Did Carlisle sell out for the game against Spurs a few years back?

Nah, it was 12/13k I think?

Last time we had anywhere near 17k+ was the 16.5k against Leeds in League One.

I'm guessing the missing 800 is the area covered with the divider in the East Stand and the top-left corner of the Main Stand where the schoolkids usually go, which was empty at the weekend. Could also be they're not selling tickets at the furthest edge of the East Stand where it overshoots the pitch.

We have a lot of terracing and the population density of those areas is massive compared to if a similar sized stand was seated. The total standing capacity of the stadium is 9,000.

I'm still surprised that you've got 8,000 seats, although I suppose the stand that the away fans are in probably holds about half of that, particularly as it's about thirty metres longer than the pitch! I suppose it's the other side, the older stand with seating behind the terrace, that surprises me the most. If I had to guess I'd have said there were about 2,000 seats in that stand, but obviously there are about double that.

Oh what I'd give to have terracing at our place!

Yeah I love terracing. I wish it was allowed here like it is in Germany so that modern stadiums have it as well.

That stand that the away fans have the corner of holds 6,000 in total.

Nah, the standing capacity is around the 10300 mark.

The Paddock holds a smudge over 5200 (largest terrace left in the country?!), Warwick Road End around 3500 and the Waterworks 1600. I don't think anyone knows the exact capacity of the seated East Stand but I'm guessing it's around the 5200 mark with segregation in place, making it roughly 1900 seats above the Paddock.

Taken from Wikipedia, the breakdown is as follows:

Main Stand (upper tier of the older stand) - approx 1,500 seating,
Paddock (lower tier of the older stand) - approx 4,500 standing
Warwick Road End (the larger covered terrace) - 3,500 standing
Waterworks End (the small open terrace we rarely use) - 2,000 standing (plus maybe 50 or so seats)
East Stand (the new stand that also houses away fans) - 6,000 seating

Total - 17,500 - 7,500 seating, 10,000 standing

Don't know how accurate those figures are, they're pretty rough because they add up to 700 shy of the stated maximum capacity so presumably they take account of parts of the East Stand covered by netting to seperate home and away fans as well as possibly the area of the Main Stand reserved for schools they give free tickets to. We don't always give the away team tickets for the furthest edge of the East Stand either, In which case the theoretical capacity of the East Stand could be closer to 7,000... it has been used to house purely home fans on a couple of occasions before so I imagine the capacity was higher then without the netting. Also Wikipedia just says the Main Stand / Paddock combined holds 6,000 so I had to guess at the breakdown of seating and standing.

Last time I checked, I think we have the highest standing capacity in British football by a bit of a distance. If so then this match being our first over 17,000 since the 80s could well count as the highest density of fans at a football match since whenever the last of the big stadia went all-seated (Fulham perhaps?).

Nah.

The entire capacity for the East Stand is c.5800. For league games where the usual segregation is in place, it holds c.5050. For cup games, the segregation used can cover as little as 350 seats, meaning it'll be a capacity of c.5450.

Anyway...

Martinez is under the kosh at Everton after last night but I still can't see him fielding his strongest XI with another midweek game coming up next week.

Carlisle 2-0 Everton :eek:bama:

Yep, Martinez is under a bit of pressure now, and this is their last chance to win a trophy this season. They've some great players still, and even their fringe players should hammer us. I think we've got a good chance of getting something from the tie, despite some dull performances recently.

To be fair I think we'll get battered, should be a great day for the club regardless of the result though.

The capacity varies ,officially 18,202 however we won't reach that due to segregation etc.The combine total of the stands above the Paddock is 2280 , Paddock 5,200 , Warwick 3500 , Waterworks 1800 that's a total 12780 the rest is in the East Pioneer stand

I did think we had a good chance, but I think Grainger being out could be a fatal blow.

I always think personally the best chance to win is through a good set piece and we are very good at that, but losing possibly the best corner taker in L2 this season to injury is a killer blow at a bad time.

Gilliead can be pretty good on them as well. This would be a good time for him to get his form back again.
Hopefully the reward of a new contract at Newcastle will give him the boost he needs.

not sure if Gilliead will play.

I think it may be the 3-5-2 again.

The FA Cup has been in Carlisle and the players got to see it. It's apparently bad luck for a player to touch the cup before a game. I heard Derek Asamoah on the radio saying he didn't want to touch it.

For what it's worth, I would go with.

I'm going for ball retention. The more we can keep hold of the ball the better our chances of scoring. There's probably a place in there for Gillead but players always score against their former clubs right? So I went for Hope.

Bench:
Hanford, Ellis, Miller, Comley, Sweeney, Gillead, Wyke

Pompey beating Bournemouth 1-0 at half time, whilst Oxford are 2-0 down against Blackburn.

So Carlisle are the last League 2 team standing.

Hopefully this will still be the case in 24h.

Comiserations to Pompey and Oxford... don't know how Oxford played, sounds like Blackburn just turned up and made their league superiority count, where I thought there was a possibility they wouldn't.

As for Pompey, I got the impression they gave Bournemouth a real game and would have been good value for a win had the breaks fallen differently. So unlucky for them.

A single unitary authority for urban Dorset
Pompey the better side for large swathes of the game today, they battled much harder and were much more aggressive. In comparison we had one or two players who went missing and didn't really look up for it, putting a lot of pressure on everyone else.

Got there in the end, Matt Ritchie and Marc Pugh the difference, their second half introduction woke us up.

Pompey can take plenty of credit.

Gutted that we conceeded two late goals but Pugh and Ritchie made such a difference when they came on, Iturbe apart from hitting the post had an absolute shocker and was in Enda Stevens pocket for most of the game.

Bickering and moaning when regulars wont get there spot......most will get soaked.

We've had people getting in late on small games, surely they won't let this happen tomorrow?

Comiserations to Pompey and Oxford... don't know how Oxford played, sounds like Blackburn just turned up and made their league superiority count, where I thought there was a possibility they wouldn't.

We froze, unfortunately, and turned in our worst performance of the season. Far too many misplaced passes and lots of hesitancy on the ball. We created nothing and Blackburn could have won by more. They were the best team we have played this season. I'd like to think that plenty of people on this board, who have said nice things about us, would have seen us play yesterday and realised we were not at our best.

The game, in general, felt like a punishment for being the story of the third round. Blackburn treated us with respect and set up as if they were in a relegation battle. Off the ball fouls, hitting the deck whenever they saw the chance (a goal from a penalty, a free kick and an Oxford error), running the clock down and celebrating the first by taunting the fans of a club more than a full division beneath them. In a game that they controlled from the first minute to the last, which made it all the more frustrating.

I normally don't do cup games unless I can find a reason, and the reason I came up with here was that they were still one of a handful of teams to have won the Premier League. Oh boy, was I disappointed. And I normally consider myself one of the more humble supporters in defeat.

Oh well, good luck to Carlisle. I initially thought you'd be out when I saw the draw, but much has been made of Everton's affinity for flattering to deceive in the past week or so. As a special treat for your club, I spent some time crunching the numbers and when I updated for the negative media reports on your visitors, the score came out as Carlisle 3 - 0 Everton. I hope you avoid Blackburn in the next round.

Now that's a somewhat bold starting line-up. Looks like 3-5-2 with Comley playing behind Asamoah but not 100% sure on that. I'd rather McQueen was playing wing back on the left instead of Gillesphey, glad to see Miller back at right wing back. Looks like sort of a similar setup to Anfield?
