Don't forget that Harry Redknapp has been sacked from Birmingham today and is looking for a job, Chesterfield and Vale fans.

He wasn't a bad guy, in fact my brothers box is next but one to his and his Mrs seemed nice, not stuck up in any way, and his (assumed) kids are always in vale tops and shouting them on quite vociferously.
He was a good player.
Did really well for us, until his legs went, but really the fact that he just in the building and under contract until 2018 shouldn't have meant he was a shoe-in for the hot seat.
Some of his team selections were baffling ( although today's looked ok to be fair) his constantly signing players seemed like almost an addiction.
But none of them were quite ready, always 'boys', and seemingly quite happy to call players out to the media if they'd dropped one, never a good idea that.
He always said he was working hard and it wasn't about the money, I believe that, but he wasn't ready, and probably won't get another chance.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's gone but the root cause is still there.

I didn't think it possible we could appoint a worse manager than Dean Saunders but astonishingly we did.

Guy Branston as a manager is enough to send a shiver down anyone's spine. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Clearly....

It is not a relegation from League Two squad, that's for sure. Just massively underperforming and and extremely low on confidence.
The reason we are down where we are is a lack of a system, a style of approach. None of the players look like they know what they're meant to be doing, and that's down to the manager. We need someone to come in and stop the rot, sure us up at the back and in midfield. The amount of goals we're conceding because the midfield isn't protecting the back 4 is ridiculous, our heads just go as soon as one goes in.

Branston as caretaker...

Oh dear oh dear.

Pray for Chesterfield.
"Guy knows the players and I think he is the right man to help out in the short-term, but he's not going to be the next manager."

Dodged a bullet there.
You need a Big Sam , Tony Pullis, Kevin Nolan type to come in , go direct and get em organised with a clear Plan A

I think only Sam is currently available

The chairman suggested a disciplinarian may be coming in as interim whilst we appoint (better than Morgan and Kelly).

No idea who but to say that suggests some talks or arrangement must be in place.

Micky Adams the return of the messiah? Possibly and Smurf suggested he is the only man in football he trusts. Would make sense if he doesn't want it permanently.

Mad Dog Martin Allen? Fits the discription but no links to Smurf and surely would be wanting a permanent role?

Mixu Pantellinen - Known to have advised Smurf in the past... may as well stick with Morgan and Kelly! Although Smurf said it would be someone who knows the division so suggests not.

As for permanent manager...

A local reported has tweeted something suggesting Billy Davies... no idea if he knows something as to that? George Andrews?

Horton and Adkins linked but Smurf said he'd had no contact with either.

Gareth Ainsworth is the fans choice being a Vale legend but a year too late, Wycombe currently better than us and we'd have to pay compensation with itself would be unlikely.

John Coleman is another, fans seem obsessed by hiring him! Wonders at Stanley BUT woeful at Rochdale and their antics at Vale Park under him suggests his football wouldn't be good, possibly getable as surely mininal compensation and could offer better wages than Stanley.

Neil Aspin... some fans want him, he was the fans choice when Adams left but has been sacked since at Halifax, another Vale legend to be tarred in Vale historical during management after experience with Martin Foyle and Dean Glover, lessons to be learnt to leave legends as they are?

One that could be an option is Askey at Macclesfield Town... decent job with no money and recommended by a football writer on radio Stoke... could he do a job?

Thought he was Head Scout at your place?

Askey has probably had a chance to leave Macc but hasn't. He comes across as a manager that'll do it at one Club like Hill at Rochdale and Coleman at Accrington.

You'll be dire Away but decent at home with a few real stinkers thrown in, we fell out of love with him mainly after a shocker at Exeter which ultimately cost him his job when was forced out and won't be pretty but would surely keep you up. He frustrated us because he constantly got us to a point i.e. edge of the play offs but couldn't get us to break into the top six usually with a flop of a big game. What I'd do for those problems right now though!

He did alright with us overall. I think some Vale fans were a little harsh on him at times. Can come across as too negative at times, we would often blow leads in games under him as he went on the defensive far too early and away record wasn't great either.

But when he left we were top half of league one so obviously was doing something right.

The thought of Billy Davies and Smurthwaite working together would be erm interesting...

Ainsworth would be my choice if forced to make one right now.

Ainsworth? Take him he's yours we've had 4 years of his shit football and he prefers playing past it players rather than exciting pacey young players leaving them on the bench and brings them on with a couple of minutes left and the game is already lost.

Apart from Ogrady, who's done nothing yet, your summer recruitment was awful, added with players who are not the same anymore like your keeper and the momentum of getting relegated and now being seen as an easy three points for anyone.... If your new manager plays 6 at the back, you might have a chance, but the pre-season optimism of thinking you're good enough for the top 7 is shattered. Chesterfield are a mess and its deserved.

Have seen a few Vale fans wanting Edinburgh. You really don't, he actually ended up doing a worse job than Rob Page which would have taken some fucking doing.

Haven't seen any wanting him, I'm actually concerned we may end up with him to be honest!

Edinburgh would be a bad move as would most of the names on that list. I don't think Ainsworth is the answer either.
