These type of threads have began to pop up on the other forums, so thought I'd start one for League 2.

My team is largely based on performances against us but also some TV highlights.

GK Adam Smith (Northampton)

RB Brendan Moloney (Northampton)
CB Bira Dembele (Barnet)
CB Christian Burgess (Portsmouth)
LB Danny Grainger (Carlisle)

RW Ricky Holmes (Northampton)
CM Jamie Devitt (Morecambe)
CM John-Joe O'Toole (Nothampton)
LW Kyle Bennett (Portsmouth)

CF Kemar Roofe (Oxford)
CF Jay Simpson (Leyton Orient)

Manager: Chris Wilder (Northampton)

I thought most positions were easy to fill, but a few (left/right full back) were quite difficult.

Not far off what I'd put.

I'd probably swap Dembele for Prosser, the Northampton centre back.

Id have Benning at left back if he didn't miss 3 months for us. No coincidence we started to falter when he was out injured.

If I was to base it on performances V us then a few who would be included are Northampton's left winger? Macdonald and Roofe at Oxford, Simpson at Orient and Carey? from Plymouth.

Matt Taylor is worth a shout aswell.

Smith (Northampton); Baldock (Oxford), Lockyer (Rovers), Nelson (Plymouth), Jacobson (Wycombe); Holmes (Northampton), Lundstram (Oxford), Crooks (Accrington) Windass (Accrington); Roofe (Oxford), Simpson (Orient).

Would have liked to have found a place for Taylor, but he's not as good as Roofe or Simpson.

Go by that logic alone and Billy Kee's the best striker in the league easily.

You're a better side than Orient, so two more assists and 7 minutes better on the goals thing doesn't convince me. Quality striker though.

Assists or Assets? He's got more assets than a lot of blokes but we can't talk about the cock in the cup picture, this is a family forum.

Taylor and Simpson is a tight one. I'd suggest Simpson is better infront of goal but Taylor's all round game is one of the best I've seen at this level.

I'm just impressed that nevermindtheboll_ox's team included Lockyer. Forget about Taylor and the goals he's scored, Lockyer has been our player of the season and has to be one of the best players in the league, but very rarely gets mentioned in these types of teams, even though at 21 he's managed to captain us, picked up awards in the whole football league and will probably around the prem/top of championship next season. Outstanding player.

Usually people reply to these threads with a whole host of their own team's players.

I'm not going to break with tradition but I think it's testament to the imbalance of our squad that we have 4 players amongst the best in their position in the division. The rest of the squad are largely pap.

Leon Legge - the best centre half I've seen this season. Wins almost every header and tackle he goes for.

Harrison Dunk - 12 assists. Pacy left winger who has troubled almost every right back he's faced this year. Has carried our only attacking threat at times.

Like Berry - combative attacking midfielder who has 9 (I think) goals despite being wasted on the wing or in a holding role for large chunks of the season.

Barry Corr - missed the second half of the season through injury but was excellent early on. Possibly the best target man in the league and had 12 goals by the end of the year too.

Having said all that, I'd only argue hard for Legge and Dunk to make the cut.

Thanks! I'll be honest, I did completely forget him then switch to the Rovers/Cambridge thread and think 'how have I managed that, class act'.

Smith a definite choice as GK for me.

Windass and the other little lad up front for Accy were impressive.

Roberts (pompey) had an excellent 45 minutes at the Abbey.

Roberts would be far to good for this division if he was fully fit unfortunately he isn't and probably never will be again..
As far as consistently good from our squad only Davies would get a look in. Surprised to see Burgess up there hes decent but would argue young Webster has been better.

Couldn't split Taylor and Simpson. Crooks and Windass included for their performances against us, could t really think of a RB other than Moloney or a LB that impressed me when I've seen but going on highlights plumped for Grainger.

I'd argue Harrison Dunk and I'll be amazed if he's not playing League 1 football next season.

Leon Legge has become something of a cult hero but there have been better centre backs than him this season at other clubs. Berry and Corr have been good but as you say it's impossible to argue the case for either.

I can't remember any centre backs that have particularly impressed me, other than Legge.

Even the Cobblers looked dodgy at the back in both games we've played.

Leon was hampered early on by having Roberts alongside him. With a more mobile partner he's done very well.

I'm going to go for a trio of players from the leaders, five or six essentially indefensible selections from my own team, one well-known player that hasn't actually played very much, that young kid everyone is banging on about who I've never actually seen play and one random full back from a midtable side who no-one else considered to make me look all knowledgeable and alternative.

There's actually very few impressive individual performances against Notts that I can remember this season. Probably a result of Northampton, Plymouth and Bristol Rovers all getting workmanlike wins over us that were just solid team displays rather than games where one player stood out. Oxford were excellent twice but again just looked like a good team rather than with any stand out individuals.

I haven't seen a player look miles better than anyone else on the pitch like Aborah has a few times for us, but he's a bit of a weird/special case and hasn't been seen in ages because of Fullartongate.

Based completely on what I've seen this season. Struggled with LB so had to go with Page who I thought looked really good before his injury. A few strikers who could've been in with a shout, Simpson and Corr the main ones I've left out. There's a few decent centre mids in the league, Lundstram, Doyle and Crooks all very good. Dunk is definitely among the best wingers in the league, and Holmes has just been sensational for Northampton

My thoughts precisely in terms of the foursome. However, there's no way I'd class Will Norris, Josh Coulson and Ben Williamson as pap. Connor Newton was just finding his form (in the right position) before his injury. Otherwise, we've been too dependent on loanees as too many of the much lauded summer signings have been worse than pap. Oh and whither Ryan Donaldson?

Interesting. I'd now put Lewis Page 3rd, or possibly even 4th, choice left back of those who've appeared in that position for us this season.

Dunk (accept wasted in that position but emphasises what he brings to the team)
Demetriou (14 appearances)
Taft (11 appearance. 3rd choice even though his presence tempted Dickie into playing a back 3)
Haynes (7 appearances)
Page (only played 6 games)
Taylor (15 appearances, not all LB)

I guess it's all about opinions, which matches I've seen and the type of players that impress me. The main issue is probably that he had to play alongside Roberts for 4 and without the support of Dunk for 2 of his 6 matches.
