The system increases the chance of individual errors. You said "you can't blame the system", which I disagree with. Of course it can't be blamed entirely, but neither can the player which is why I agree with what Veggie originally said; "I think it's harsh to blame Stones".

It's incredibly generous to blame the system for a shit back pass. It's like blaming a striker for missing from 6 yards because the teams tactics are to give him those opportunities.

As for "a lot of words for saying fuck all really", I don't even know what to respond to that. I was merely trying to say out that individual errors can be systemic, which isn't a very controversial opinion.

Lightly mocking but mostly playful... the tone didn't translate very well though, so soz?

It's not. If Stones played in a Pulis team, I'm sure he'd never ever make a bad back pass, because he'd never be instructed to prioritize possession. He's not blameless of course, but he's less to blame than the system because in any possession orientated system, you'll see bad back passes from time to time simply because the centre backs are asked to take the risk. Guardiola knows very well these things happen, he just thinks it's worth it.

A better comparison than a striker vs centre back (the individual errors by strikers are rather opposite and very rarely systemic) would be, for example, having a left back constantly closed down by a tenacious winger. If you keep passing the ball to the left back in the build up, you'll get an individual error eventually. As such, it's a systemic individual error as it can be avoided (and most teams and managers do avoid it).

If he Pep played Stones upfront he'd never miss a back pass either!

Dear god mate you're doing mental gymnastics here, Stones fucked up and that's on him. Arsenal play from the back and if Kos made that back pass I'd put the blame on Kos not Wenger.

And if Guardiola stays for 20 years at City, the poor back passes will be considerably fewer. But let's agree to disagree.

John Stones has made more individual errors leading to goals than any other player this season.
The more you know.
