He's right though. It does make Henderson look weak really. At first I thought Sturridge was also trying to get it, but looking at the replays he was telling Henderson that he should be taking it himself. I think Henderson bottled it there.
Gerrard is either thick or a cnut or maybe both....why would the captain of Liverpool just throw Balotelli under the bus like that? That's not what a captain does. Yes do it in the privacy of the dressing room...not on live TV.
Not the best performance, started brightly but waned a bit as the game went on. Balotelli coming on though helped, he's been decent the last three matches he's been involved in and looks up for it. Scores the penalty to win it as well. The media are making this out to be more of an issue as to who should take it, than it really should be. If there are issues I'm sure all concerned will have a brief chat about it, know where everyone stands and move on - the important thing was the win, though I'd personally have liked it to have been by a bigger margin as this Besiktas side are no mugs and Liverpool will have to be at it in Istanbul once again.
Missed the game but after watching the highlights...
- Mignolet made an important save
- Jordan Ibe, what a player he will be in the future
- Mario should take all our pens (if he is in the field). There is no rule saying the captain has to take the pens.
Balotelli has taken to Twitter and Instagram, thanking Henderson for letting him take the penalty. Typical media tying to make a mountain out of molehills.
Even with Gerrard on the pitch, Balotelli is still the best penalty taker.
I am just happy we now have lots of players like Coutinho, Sterling, Ibe, Sturridge who can make a difference on the pitch. I am really hoping Balotelli can turn his form around with the confidence he has gained from past couple of games.
Yes. It's more about players arguing over who should be taking it than the actual players involved, and as mentioned the Liverpool supporters who seem to think this is some media campaign against them might want to have a look at Mr.Liverpool, their captain, being the biggest culprit of portraying it negatively. Reid was all for it.
