Need two wins minimum to have any chance at top 4. Westham will be toughest game imo with it being their last home game of the season.

You don't sound very confident, it would take a monumental fuck up for you not to make top four.

Well now you no why I wasn't confident. Although I wouldn't consider it a monumental fuck up considering United and Arsenal have games in hand!

Also consider that United and Arsenal are just as likely to drop points as Liverpool and are crap!

The way they are playing it's like they don't even want it and are more comfortable being an EL side. Lost all interest tbh, not arsed if they throw it away on the last day of the season as tbh it's almost deserved.

Can't blame me though showing it, its remarkable that season upon season they get themselves in good positions only to shoot themselves in the foot time and time again. This should have been done weeks back, but no, it comes down to the two final games of the season when the squad is on its arse playing shit to determine Liverpool's fate for the next two seasons.

A win and a draw will get us 4th so it's vital we don't lose at West Ham. If we can't beat Boro at home we dont deserve a CL spot.

Given our final 9 fixtures, its not good enough that we're even having to worry about it. We should have made it with games to spare.

I know theres the whole "win games ugly" narrative but we we've looked completely devoid of ideas for a number of games now and but for "worldys" from Can, Firmino and Coutinho, we'd be out of the running for a CL place.

West Ham and Borough are as good a final two games as we're going to get. If we don't make it, I might go full ChelseaRoyal and run away from the site until we start winning again.

I agree with this.

The truth is, if we don't make the top four it'll be incredibly hard to say we've made any significant progress under Klopp. He's likable and charismatic but so far the results have been ok (waning towards worrying) and the football ranging from very entertaining to mind bogglingly boring seemingly at random, with the latter showing more and more often. We did well in the cups last season but still came away with nothing. City was bad luck really but against Sevilla he got tactically out-thought to the extent we'd have lost ten times out of ten.

I'm not saying he will or should be sacked if we miss the top four, but the pressure will be on next season if so. Based on what we expected, it's been quite underwhelming so far on the whole. The one main thing he has going for him though is that we do incredibly well against strong/stronger teams. I can see us doing very well in the CL, for example. And you have to hope he will find a way to beat the ten at the back, but let's say other managers have failed with just that in the Anfield dugout.

I think Klopp has done a pretty good job, I think your squad is 5th/6th best in the league and your two worst runs of the season have coincided with missing your best performing player of the season due to the AFCON and a season ending injury. The inability to close out games against mediocre/poor opposition is concerning, but almost every time I have watched Liverpool this season, they have dominated their opponents. I would feel pretty confident going forward as a Liverpool fan if you manage to fall over the finish line in the Champions League spots. The return of Mane, some reinforcements (hopefully some less injury prone players for your sake), things will be looking rosy in a few months when 17/18 comes around...well, if you keep Coutinho.

You're preaching to the converted. I'm equally fucked off with Klopp and the team that we're in this position, we should be home and dry by now.

Which is a tad unfair really. Had you gotten to this points total by being poorer initally but coming into form later you'd have no issue, even though the outcome is the same.
At the start of the season if anybody thought Liverpool were in with a chance of the title, you'd have been deluded (Leicester miracle season reasoning excluded), so a top 4 spot this season should have been the top of expectation, and he looks like achieving that. Given the other clubs going for the top 4 and the positions those clubs have been in of late, top 4 is very good for Liverpool, even if it's scraped by a +1 on the gd on the final day.

While the outcome had been the same the direction would be the opposite.

As for injury prone players, it's something that follows Klopp around and I'm starting To believe luck only has something to do with it when the team is fit. He had the exact same issues at Dortmund, which is why I excluded it from my original post. I don't see it changing.

Well, yes of course thats true. We'd have improved through the season rather than fallen away and would therefore be more optimistic going into the Summer.

And it will get better if they can get into the CL as the squad in the summer will get bolstered out with quality signings. If they don't make it I see more of the same this term.

We have been really unlucky with injuries; Klopp has used a smaller squad, but unlike Chelsea hasn't gotten away with it. He's also been really unlucky on some of the guys who could've came into the side to help out in Ojo, Grujic and Ings all having significant injuries that have dented or ended their season. Not making a signing in January has also been a gamble that hasn't paid off.

When fit, the side looks decent enough and shown that it could be one of the leagues top sides; but we just don't have the depth of the others (by choice) and are struggling to see this through.

Hard to look at Liverpool, United and City's squads and not think that Klopp has overperformed, tho. That's one way of looking at it. But yeah if you look at your own performances and results only then there's room for improvement.

Southampton will beat us tonight (we've never won at St. Mary's in the league AFAIK), United won't win/score at Spurs, and you'll be able to look back at a job well done.

Yeah like it did in 2014-15 when you got Balotelli.

It will be different this time around as Klopp has the main say on who comes in unlike Rodgers had that season when they thought they were getting Sanchez but left it to the last minute when he decided to go to you lot, and was forced to go with Balotelli, as the transfer committee in their infinite wisdom thought he'd potentially be a brilliant signing :ffs:

lol is the transfer committee still a thing?

You should do what we do and let an old man have complete dictatorial power over everything.

Supposed to be but I think it's Klopp and his team who really make the decisions now and so far (with the exception of Karius though it's early with him yet) they've all been pretty good.

Fingers crossed it will be decided by the final whistle of the United game on Sunday. If we beat West Ham and Arsenal and United lose both the above mentioned games (a reasonably big if, at least one will be a draw for me), 4th will be ours. I have a suspicion it won't happen like that though and will come down to the final day somehow.

There has been no confirmation one way or another, but I suspect Klopp has far more say than Rodgers ever did.

Any chance you could predict an Arsenal win against Stoke?

No chance, we won't win at Stoke. We never win at Stoke. No chance at all that we'll beat Stoke.
