Cambridge were shit first half (that free kick...).
Has to be up there with one of the worst free kicks ever taken at Kenilworth Road from Ryan Donaldson. From 25 yards from goal, managing to put it over the Kenny End roof is some achievement. Almost against the rules of physics.

As I've commented elsewhere, in the context of Di Maria clearing the Newmarket Road End last week (has he ever kicked the ball out of the ground in his career?), there was some debate in the Oak Road end as to whether there was some spot betting developing - especially when Kaikai tried to repeat the feat.

We lost that game ourselves, not quite as bad a first half as at Stevenage but not far off. System was all wrong to start with, Ball and Champion cannot play together in midfield, far too similar, and Elliott can play as a 1 up top but it needs someone pushing on from midfield and no-one was doing that in the first half. Two truly terrible goals given away and another one from a set piece. The correct changes were made at half time and it showed, shame Hunt is cup tied on Tuesday as he looked really good, far better than Kaikai certainly who I am starting to have real doubts about now, has the odd moment of brilliance but he's been here for two months now and he's had far more bad games than good ones.

Luton didn't look anything special at all, much like the league game at our gaff, can see why they've been complaining about not creating/scoring enough, luckily for them we gifted them a couple of goals and they took them, so can't ask for much more than that. Will undoubtedly be in the mix and I kind of hope you go up, I'm a bit bored of you now to be honest :)

Bring on Tuesday, though if we play like we did in the first half yesterday we'll be 4 or 5 down by half time.....

Rarely seen a game with such contrasting halves and the only one I can remember where virtually all the action was at our end. No team deserves anything after giving away 3 goals like that but we nearly got a point and, more importantly can go to Old Trafford with a spring in our step. I hope Robbie Simpson has earned a start for Tuesday and Tait gets the protection that Donaldson has been providing before today. Howells truly had him on toast, as others have on occasion this season.

It was an emotional match for Cam McGeehan. Still had a word with him pre-kick-off, Doyle and McNulty niggled and I expect that "inspirational" words were said at half time. Money later had a word to try to restore a cool head. I was particularly impressed by Tyler's lack of reaction when they had 1 on 1 at the end. Despite his origins and his role in some disappointing results for us, Tyler is gaining grudging respect from a few of us. That won't reduce the abuse he'll get though.

Managed to sample a pint and some pre-match atmosphere in the Clarence before donning colours to squeeze in the Oak Road end - it would have been more than cozy if we'd sold out all "seats." Final thought, Luton need better striking options than Stockley, Wall, etc it they are to do better a play-off place and to win through the play-offs.

Frustrating game yesterday, first half was a bit of no show from us and Luton really, we gifted Luton all three goals with some really sloppy defending and goalkeeping but Luton we're very clinical to there credit, we was just desperately lacking in the final third of the pitch, didn't think there was much difference between the sides and 3-0 flattered Luton at ht.

2nd half Luton sat back and just invited us on the them, unfortunately for us we just couldn't get that third goal which we deserved but if the ref had given a penalty in the 2nd half for blatant handball then things may have turned out differently, c'est le vie.

As for mcgeehan, he's a tough tackler and with his build I wouldn't expect any different, mcnulty and co done their best to wind him up and maybe they succeeded, his tackles were no worse than anybody else's though and deservedly stayed on the pitch.

Oh and smith really is a pillock of the highest order.

I'm sure there's more to post but I'll do that later.

McGeehan's tackles definitely were worse than others, on two occasions. One on Jake Howells in the first half after the whistle had already gone, and an even naughtier one in the second half (though I forget who was on the receiving end in that instance). In both cases the players concerned managed to mostly get out of the way which stopped the incidents becoming anything serious. McGeehan was clearly out to show that he was up for the game against us and wouldn't let his feelings get in the way of that so fair play to him.

As for the penalty shout, it 100% hit his hand but his hand was down by his side, the ball was headed at him from near point-blank range. Certainly not intentional and his hands were in a natural position as far as I could tell so I don't believe it was the stone-waller that Cambridge fans seem to. It certainly was a nervy moment for us mind you, on another day another ref might have given it. We've had a few like that in recent weeks against us though that weren't given so we were due a bit of referreeing luck.

The way we are playing right now is really not helpful for just about forwards i can think of. I've not been overly impressed with Stockley but I think most forwards would look very ordinary with how we play.

Agree 100%. I mentioned at the game, we should start playing the Barcelona "false 9" position and 4-6-0 formation.

I can remember one tackle on Kaikai that was on par with anything that mcgeehan did, think it was drury(he certainly looks past his best to me) in the first half, don't think there was a malicious tackle in the whole match, just two committed teams, but it's all swings and roundabouts, the ref was equally shit for both sides.

Regarding the penalty and I haven't seen it back but it looked to me as though the Luton player(franks?) was in the air as the the ball hit his hand which was definitely not by his side, for me a clear penalty.

Donaldson can hit every other freekick like that for the rest of his career if he wants, he scored the one that mattered.

Not really, Donaldson was laughing about it with Tyler and Howells afterwards, don't think he took it badly, don't see why you should.

Offended/upset/etc - was a choice of words which seems to have led to confusion. Either way, he seems to have rubbed Luton up the wrong way a bit which is out if character compared to what we've seen so far.

Meh, move on.

Good luck to the kid; don't think he rubbed us up the wrong way at all. Doyle and Macca tried to get in his head - it worked and he chomped.

Don't know if your post is directed at my comment, but my point is that I don't think it's a good idea for any club to put up a video on youtube showing their opponents' silly mistakes. When a neutral fan sees that he's going to say 'No wonder they won, their opponents are so poor'. It's basically belittling your clubs victory, or at least, that's the way I see it.

As for the free kick itself, I sure can see the funny side :)
