Another home game against an injury hit Wycombe side, who certainly don't seem to be hitting the heights of the previous two seasons. Despite the number of changes that teams were making, Wycombe (apparently) only had 15 fit first teamers and the manager sticking himself on the bench - I'm hoping he doesn't play; we had a few good Ainsworth v Luton battles for QPR over the years! Although they added to the squad on deadline day, they're going to be struggling to fill the subs bench again. Personally, I think that's pretty shocking at this stage of the season.

Luton's U23 beat Gillingham on Tuesday night, but I'd expect the vast majority to make way for the more established first teamers:

We have a full bench after signing 2 players on deadline day so he will be wearing a suit. 6 players out with long term injuries so can't see anything but a home win, just be prepared to be bored to death with our absolutely shit tactics.

I don't see him bringing Senior straight in and Lee will be involved on the bench. I think he'll go Cook over Gray and Sheehan will play if it, although I doubt he will be.

Not sure how this will go. Our big wins at Plymouth and Cambridge came when we were the away side and teams come at us. We struggled to break Newport and Yeovil down when they sat and and I can see Wycombe doing the same. If we score early, we'll win comfortably, however I see it being a draw.

Would be surprised if Smudger starts as the holding mid, in Jones's system he's always played as one of the more advanced guys. Jones wants the DM to hold his position in a disciplined way and recycle possession, which isn't Smith's game at all. We think of Smith as a defensive type player but he's a chaser/harrier rather than a deep-lying anchor man type, so is most suited to one of the box-to-box roles IMHO. That's certainly how Jones has used him so far, even on Tuesday with no Lee or Rea.

Bad game to be without Rea, he'd have been a useful compliment to the centre halves in dealing with Akinfenwa.

Yea, I think Rea would have been perfect for today.

I'm banking on you mowgs....5 0 Luton
Our defence is usually good mate it's just in midfield and up front where we struggle so i'll say 1-0 Luton and you'll be yawning before half time with the horrible way we play.

apparently we're getting thumped and are lucky to be a mere single goal down.

Wycombe just got one back, so 2-1 and game on.

Haven't been able to make it and following on Twitter isn't the best but sounds like we have dominated and played superbly. Let's hope we don't throw all that good work away!

Fuck off Ainsworth!! I listened to the game and it was painful. New manager with new ideas is needed or we'll be in a real scrap to stay up like 3 seasons ago,1 league win in 13 league games would get you sacked at any club except Wycombe as our twat of a chairman gave Ainsworth a 5 year contract :ffs: after we just stayed up on goal difference 3 seasons ago which was ridiculous.

4-1 really did flatter Wycombe, could and should have been 7 or 8. Only negative is that we have to start taking these chances, we saw today how easily a game can turn at 1 or 2-0. We weathered the minor storm though and finished perfectly.

We are fucking good at football when we are in that mood. Hylton is the best signing we've made in years. Pelly's assist for the first was outrageous, nearly broke the defender's ankles with the nutmeg. Love that guy.

Think that was a fair result in the end - on balance, it would've been unjust if it ended 2-2, which it could've conceivably been. Was a really, really, good first half performance especially - not a bad player on the pitch. We should've easily been 3-0 up at HT from the penalty miss and the one on one chance spurned.

Hylton absolutely outstanding - a deserving hat-trick.

If defence is Wycombe's strong point I didn't see it today - although that could just be the way we played. The second half they came into it more, but their one outlet was just to lump it into the box and hope the battering men up front in Thompson and Akinfenwa get onto it. We showed an immense amount of defensive character.

Everything very close at the top of League 2, as you would expect at this stage of the season, but there's one anomaly: our goal difference. Most of the highest teams are around +1-3, we are +9!

Why was Pierre left on the bench today Mowgli? He has always looked massively impressive whenever I have seen him.

We turned down a £250,000 bid for him from Swindon on transfer deadline day so maybe he's pissed off with that, that's all i can think of as he's by far our best centre back even on an off day which doesn't happen very often.

Conceivably, we could've been 18 out of 18 right now.

You excited Kenny?
A little. :box:

The club is on the up in every aspect possible at the moment.

I'm a little bit gutted that I may actually miss a significant proportion of the season though through work commitments - the last time that happened we got promoted however.

He's comfortably the best CB in the division IMHO. If you offered me the choice of any player in the division, I'd pick Pierre over Baker, that Luton bloke who's quite good or Akinde (pen).

Saw him four or five times last season and from everything I saw Pierre was probably the best player in the league last year. Surprised it was only Swindon who made the bid though, would have though half the Championship were tracking him.

I believe we did have other clubs sniffing around re. Pierre. Hope he wasn't benched through sulking though, we can't afford to have a non-committed player around when we're looking like struggling.

Anyway. Sounds like we were completely outplayed today. Not so worried if it's against the Lu'uns and the Pompeys of this world (next week) but if we continue to fail to win our bread and butter games then we're screwed.

I hope we manage to turn a corner soonish but some of the fans are starting to lose patience.

Easily the best performance since we've been back in the League, 4-1 didn't do Luton justice. Pelly was absolutely unplayable in the first half. It was such a good performance even Olly Lee had a good game (first time I've ever said that I think).

Still want to see Luton play some of the better teams before I get too excited about promotion chances. In six games so far we've played 4 of the current bottom 5 including the bottom 3. The win at Plymouth on the opening day looks pretty good though.

Well as we've only played six teams and we've beaten four of them, its bound to have a big hit to the opposition's points totals - hence the reason they're down there. Trust me, we'll be OK. We more than beat Plymouth, who I believe are sitting in third. Ainsworth yesterday said that we look the best team he's ever seen at L2 level.
