Players leaking stuff to the press already?! Not good at all. It happened towards the end of van Gaal's tenure but this is far too early to be speaking out against Mourinho.

Well let's just hope this unrest continues through the weekend.

Understand that it's not usually particularly good to single individual players out in public, but Mourinho has hardly been scathing of Shaw has he?

Seems like a mountain out of a molehill to me. Dealt him a bit of criticism, he's old enough to get on with it, move on.

If certain players can't take criticism after a few poor performances, then I worry about their mentality and influence they may have on the squad.

Rooney anyone?

Rooney plays like a complete c***.

The media finally begins to "tell it like it is" with regards to Rooney after years of nothing but arse-kissing.

Leaks begin to surface - deflecting attention away from Rooney and onto the manager, possibly just as said manager is contemplating the idea of actually dropping the lummox for a meaningful length of time for the good of the squad.

i loved the motd analysis of rooney at the weekend. "look viewers, here's a montage of how utterly wank he is at passing a football, look at the fat waster boot a simple pass out of play. he didn't play a single through ball all game, didn't create a chance, nor make a tackle. imo mourinho should avoid dropping him despite years of poor form and should instead deploy him in midfield cos he's like pirlo and that."

get materazzi in to kick fuck out of the soft shites imo and that.

"The squad have been left shocked not only by Mourinho’s public censure of individual players, including Luke Shaw, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Jesse Lingard, but the personal nature of criticism behind closed doors."

Agree the Shaw stuff was nothing, but that suggests he's saying rather more in the dressing room. Nonetheless I think it's true that Ferguson wouldn't have publicly criticised his players, even in the mild way that Shaw, Mkhitaryan and Lingard were. Probably there are some examples from 26 years in charge, but most successful managers protect their players at least in public. It's not even very Jose-like. Seems like he's frustrated and determined not to take the blame already.

Remember the fresh faced Jose at his first spell at Chelsea when the players would run through walls for him and he in turn would back them come what may? Long gone. Madrid broke him it seems like they tend to do.

That leak sounds like typical shit that the media makes up. If it isn't then the player/coach who leaked it deserves sacking.

It'll be the latter. James Ducker is a respected journalist.

What does Rooney have to gain? He's being picked every week regardless of his performances. Why would he want rid of Mourinho?

Perhaps Jose had told Rooney he wasn't performing to the level he should be and that he was going to be dropped - there is no way Jose hasn't recognised how poorly Rooney has been playing. Rooney proceeds to throw his toys out of the pram and get his camp to put out some negative stories on Mourinho to deflect the unwanted attention away from himself.

I can understand public criticism not going down well. But in the dressing room? Are United's players really that pampered that nobody has ever said a word against them in their careers?

There was a very good discussion on the whole thing on 5live on Monday night, available on the podcast which is usually pretty good in itself.

A fine example of high earning PL players who think they are bigger than the club, and have the ability to get a manager sacked if they don't like their management style. They will do anything from planned poor performances to leaks to the press to make it happen.

The top earners on long contracts can do this, as they know there will always be another club willing to pay a ridiculous transfer fee, and that the club would never sack a player, it will always be the manager who gets sacked.

It's a lot different down in the depths of league two for example as in the most part, the players are not as sought after. Also back in the early Fergie days at United, it was to be accepted to get a a one way conversation from time to time, but he adapted over the years and changed his management style to suit.

Do that today, the dressing room will be lost, players will purposely play badly and lose games until the manager is sacked.

Best theory so far, let's believe this.

Rooney ain't smart enough to be a source of information. It'll be his agent if it is him.
