Ander Herrera is set to miss Manchester United's game against Villa because of a foot injury sustained in Wednesday's FA Cup win at West Ham.

Wayne Rooney made his comeback from a knee injury as a late substitute in that game and could make his first league appearance for two months.

Villa's Gabby Agbonlahor is unavailable because of a lack of fitness.

Alan Hutton is available after a ban, while fit-again pair Jack Grealish and Adama Traore are pushing for recalls.

MATCH FACTS
Head-to-head

  • Aston Villa have gone 12 league matches without a win against Manchester United (D3, L9).
  • Manchester United's only defeat in the last 40 Premier League meetings came at Old Trafford in December 2009, when Gabriel Agbonlahor scored the only goal (W29, D10, L1).
  • That is United's solitary home loss against Villa in the last 30 league matches (W23, D6).
Manchester United

  • Louis van Gaal's side have won their last four league games at Old Trafford, keeping three clean sheets in that run. Their next three league fixtures are at home.
  • The Red Devils have kept a league-high 15 clean sheets.
  • However, United are 12 points and 20 goals worse off than at the same stage last season.
  • Wayne Rooney has scored 13 Premier League goals against Aston Villa. He has only fared better against Newcastle, with 14 goals.
  • Marouane Fellaini has scored four goals against Villa, more than versus any other opponent in the Premier League.
Aston Villa

  • Aston Villa are all-but relegated after 28 years in the top division - they are 15 points from safety with a vastly inferior goal difference to fourth bottom Norwich.
  • Villa have suffered eight straight league defeats - the second worst run in the club's history. They lost 11 in a row in 1963.
  • They have conceded 24 goals in those eight defeats, scoring just three.
  • Aston Villa are the worst team to play in the Premier League, pure shite.
  • It is 15 games without an away win for Villa since beating Bournemouth on the opening day.
  • Villa have made a league-high 14 errors leading to goals.

Fucking hell, Depay. We've got to the stage where Lingard and Mensah are being rested. He's slso managed to bench Darmian for Valencia at RB.

Good job too, Valencia is comfortably better than Darmian who has been complete shit.

Rooney has been surprisingly good. Usually looks awful first game back after injury.

Probably just villa being absolute shite

I thought this would be a convincing win but I suppose that was too much to ask at home against a side that has been all-but-relegated for months.

Hopefully Villa fans get a bit more enjoyment from their side next season, good luck.

Van Gaal should be fired on the spot for only beating Villa 1-0. A disgrace to his profession.

As for Villa, I'm sad to see them go down. They have been absolutely turgid to watch for the past three or four seasons, but I've always liked them as a club. From the Dwight Yorke period to when they were challenging for Europe under O'Neill. They deserved better than to go down in this fashion. Farewell Villa, hope to see you back soon.

Hard to believe that the likes of Leicester and Man City have dropped points to this Villa side, they're an embarrassment, will need a strong manager and a lot of hard work if they're going to compete at the top of the Championship next season.
