August nominations

Managers:
Hughton (Brighton)
McCarthy (Ipswich)
Bruce (Hull)
Ramsey (QPR)

Players:
Fraser (Ipswich)
LuaLua (Brighton)
Gleeson (Birmingham)
Keane (Burnley)

Hughton is the obvious choice for manager of the month, given Brighton have been the best team and exceeded all expectations.
Fraser has been superb for us, but I think LuaLua will win the player award.

I would go for Hughton and Fraser personally.

Weird choices on the players IMO, just handing Lua Lua the win.

Can't remember the last time we had a player nominated for this, must have been years ago.

A Hughton & Kaz clean-up would seem logical but wouldn't be able to argue against any of other players winning seeing as I've not seen them at first hand over the 5 games. Fraser looks to have made a really productive start.

When do they announce it? I would say Hughton and Lua Lua.

Hughton and Lua Lua have won it. Hughton deserves the award but I'm not sure about Lua Lua.

I'm thinking the manager choices are suspect.

Bruce and Ramsay? Getting in to the top half of the division with all that parachute money? That must have been a Herculean task of epic proportions.
Personally, I'm surprised they don't get called The Special Ones because that's generally what managers get called if they have huge amounts of money to spend. Manager of the month candidates, my arse.

They're the managers of the current top four. Not a very inspiring way to pick, but it's hard to argue that it's wholly undeserved.

I am not saying they deserve it, but you are basically saying that we should win every game. We have made a profit this summer, and our wages are no more astronomical than most (baring Hoilet and Traore, who we are trying to get rid of). Fer, Green and co had relegation causes in their contract.

Taking money out of it, we lost to Charlton having dominated large parts. We are since unbeaten, whilst getting two good wins away from home against yourselves and Huddersfield.

You really do have a massive gripe against QPR.

But then again there is some cause for that hate being that you should have had a transfer embargo AT THE VERY LEAST.

For a rule that got changed after just one year? We went up and spent money whilst in the top league as we wanted to survive. We got relegated and we still had people on high, long contracts. Yeah, we should not have offered out such stupid money and it has backfired on us (and a lot of QPR fans are unhappy with how we went about it, myself included) but when you get relegated, you cant just stop paying these people. We shipped out most of them when we got relegated and done what we can to lower what we were spending, but it isnt that easy.

Shaun Wright-Phillips is a prime example. We paid him around £4 million in wages alone in the year we got promoted yet he played about 2 games for us as we couldnt offload him.

My knowledge of the FFP is not the greatest, but it says a lot if the rules get changed so quickly.

FFP, (I think), basically means that you cannot spend more then you get. I hear that you made losses of £60 million last season, so that would result in a 40 million pound fine. My understanding is the Rule got edited and not completely abolished (again, I think this is the case) . So you still should probably should've had an embargo. Sadly the rules say different and that actually you should've got fined, but Tony Fernandes refused to pay it. So I reckon you should've been AT THE VERY LEAST been told to pay at least some of the fines back. IMO the rules are a bit stupid so you should've got a transfer embargo aswell, but oh well.

Yeah we made massive losses. We couldnt shift the players on high wages. I think we are going to get a 8million fine (there has been more said in the FFP thread).

Back on subject, just because you have a larger budget, does not mean you shouldnt be on the shortlist for manager or player of the month. That is like saying the award is only for half the league.

First month, it is pretty much always going to be the top teams who get nominated, as they have done best so far so it is all relative. Next month, they might see a resurgence from Bolton and they will get it, even if they are mid table.
