Right call from Saints. They were only going the way of Stoke.
Surely that'll be Hughes' last top flight job for now?

Terrible manager. Laughable that he says that he doesn't have any relegation's to his name, yet he played the key roles in Stoke and us getting relegated.

A single unitary authority for urban Dorset
This talk of Southampton hiring Hasenhuttl as manager, and Paul Mitchell as DoF, who know each other and have previous working relationship, with Mitchell also having worked at Saints before - Is about the best, most common sense idea that football club has come up with in years. It'll almost be as if someone at board level there actually knows what they're doing!

Well Hughes had them scoring goals for 2 games - but they couldn't keep it tight at the back.

Sums him up a bit - unable make sure both areas are working well at the same time.

Sounds like a decent replacement unfortunately. Worked his way succesfully up from the lower leagues, good job at Ingolstadt, then a 2nd place finish with newly promoted Leipzig.

After a brief read up on him though he does appear to have had a couple of board disagreements in his past...

Off the top of my head, managers moving from Germany to England seem to get off to a slow-ish start before their ideas eventually click and become a big success. I'm thinking Farke, Wagner, even Guardiola and Klopp.

A shame for Mark Hughes but the board clearly had to act after the embarrassment of a home draw against struggling Manchester United.

Don't really know too much about him but watching Austin try and play the pressing game he likes to employ is going to be hilarious.

Wonder how the media will play this?

"Another foreigner taking a job of a British manager" or "for once they haven't just gone for a manager off the managerial merry go round"

Updated Manchester United - wasn't sure whether to class it as green or yellow with him only being caretaker manager.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
He got what he deserved for deciding to take the p*ss out of the FA Cup, think that is where it started to go against him with the fanbase, and he got no benefit in league from doing so, reminded me of how Allardyce ended up on his way out from West Ham

I can as such understand the top 4-5 resting players and the bottom 4-5 doing it because League position is life and death financially, but still never get that clump of maybe 8-9 sides who will finish between 8th and 14th have no chance of doing anything and seem to focus on finishing 8th than trying for a cup...............must be some of the most boring clubs to watch when a highlight is maybe scraping a 0-0 draw at a top 6 side.

Claudio Ranieri gone from Fulham after 16 games.

The Leicester magic certainly didn't rub off - more like the Leicester rubbish post title win!

They looked pretty abject yesterday, but they were playing City.

Interesting; I wonder what the board thought was realistic for them this season surpassing survival?

Think it was more down to the style of football which might have been viewed as pretty negative but it got them results.

Probably needed more quality up front.

The big signings such as Locadia, Andone and Jahanbakhsh just haven’t worked out and Brighton have found it more and more difficult to win matches. Almost all managerial jobs end in failure.
