I thought Garners next step might be in the conference or back to teaching kids. Maybe he is just preempting the conference

Garner is deluded. Possibly the worst appointment that Colchester could have made. As others have said, he values possession stats over actually winning football matches, never credits the opposition and is full of every excuse under the sun. His interview after our playoff semi final was as pathetic as they come. He also completely sold out his team by assuming that the tie was won after the first leg. His own opinion of himself far exceeds his ability.

We have sacked Micky Mellon.

Gutted that it has ended this way, but the decision was probably inevitable. He is a good man and will go down as the second greatest manager in our history.

I will always be grateful to him for dragging us out of the Hell Hole that is the National League, and for back to back promotions which I will probably never see again.

What's happened to Tranmere? We played you just over a year ago and I think you were either 2nd or 3rd in the table. We snatched a last minute equaliser. You looked OK on the day and I kind of assumed you'd either get automatic promotion or at the least playoffs. Since then you've dropped right off and didn't even make the playoffs.

Last season was a disappointment. We had a squad capable of making at least the play-offs but after getting been thumped at home by Forest Green our season fell away.

The Palioi decided to switch to a development model, where we worked with academy cast-offs from other clubs higher up the pyramid with a view to improving them and selling them on. Whether this was something Mellon was aware of being in the pipeline when he re-joined or whether this was a complete change of tack from the Chair depends on who you listen to, I've no inside knowledge. Micky has always worked best with a central core of experienced pros. This coupled with a small squad, where injuries to key players have a greater negative impact have led to our current woes. Unlike many in this league, our owners aren't particularly wealthy and while they've attracted some Indonesian investment, not enough to reverse the downward trajectory. Without more investment or an astute next appointment we're lower L2 or worse for the foreseeable.

It’s often us Gills that seem to drive the final nail in opposition managers coffin over the years. “Can’t be losing to them” is the cry of fans and owners alike.

But they missed this one by a week.

Was Micky at Tranmere 7 years or more? Very long serving manager in the current climate. Wish him well. Where do you guys think he might go next?

Just under six years over his two spells. The longest serving manager we have had since John King in the nineties.

I think he will end up at one of the bigger National League clubs, although northern League Two clubs will probably also be interested. He is still a good manager and will have future successes.
