I like Clough to be fair.

Appleton is a mystery to me too really, I don't know him that well. Just seems to always be situ at a random League One club.

Appleton’s Oxford team that went up in 2017ish was outstanding to be fair, one of the best I’ve ever seen in the lower leagues in terms of entertaining and winning games. Had some bloody good players though with the likes of Kemar Roofe, John Lundstram and George Baldock and still only came second.

Stockport seem to be a progressive club, Charlton is a manager’s graveyard.

Charlton will always be a more attractive club to manage at than Stockport.
If it wasn't for his beleaguered start and the fact he is only about 3 games away from being fired he would never be accepting the job. He would have championship clubs after him if he could get the job done at County.

It's a basket case club with shit owners even if they're a far bigger club than we are and in a better league.

Charlton are a much bigger club than us but nobody dreams of going to Charlton. Agree with Ellis, it's the circumstances of it that will mean he may go. This is probably the only period in his nearly 2 years with us where he'd have even considered Charlton. His job isn't 100% safe here at this monent, no manager is but a defeat on Saturday and I even thought he may get the chop tbh, wouldn't be my choice but our owner is ambitious.

Not if you replace him with Wild
I don't want Challinor to go but the pragmatist in me says if Charlton make him number 1 choice, it would just be best for both parties providing Charlton offer us the right £.

It would most likely weaken us this season but with 3/4 of the squad, including a few higher earners who are ageing out of contract next summer it would possibly be a good idea to get a new man in, get his feet under the table and do a proper assault on it next season. Becoming apparent last season was a massive missed opportunity, the league is stronger this season and the bulk of our squad has probably had it's heyday really with its prime years winning NL promotion and L2 play off finalists.

Probably right, I don’t see him seeing out the full season if a bigger club comes knocking who are having current temporary issues on league position, that would probably right itself sooner rather than later under its own esteem.....it’s a win for him then... as he would get the “turn around “ plaudits.
He has no loyalty to a club long term....and to be fair no manager really should....it’s a very transient career.
We have him signed up till 25.

If not Stockport do you think Oldham would be a risk? Unsworth must be in borrowed time there and Wild has Oldham. Links doesn't he? A drop back into non league but a big club.

The play off side Appleton assembled for us was a fantastic watch, massive shame it was during Covid but there you go. In fairness he had a lot of quality to work with - Brennan Johnson, Morgan Rogers, Alex Palmer, Jorge Grant et al but he played some of the best football I've seen as an Imps fan. He's just hard to like and isn't one for going out into the community etc. When we struggled with MA, we really struggled and he isn't the most pragmatic but if he has the talent at his disposal to play the way he wants, it's a great watch. I'd have thought Cowley would be a good match but I'm not sure what level he wants to go back into.

What has that Appleton ever done in management to justify the 27 jobs he's already had? Mystery to me.

Same with Clough, been managing for about 25 years yet I couldn't tell you anything he's actually achieved in that time.
Clough got Burton promoted from the Northern Premier league to the conference.

Wild signed a 5 year deal a few months into last season, so is signed up until 2027...

There’s no loyalty anymore but Challinor is 100% the biggest tart in football. He never even goes for a really big job either, just a bit better than the one he’s in.

Casey

And Burton to the Championship from around December onwards I believe. I think he left Burton while massively ahead in the conference.

If he leaves Mansfield without a promotion it will be definitely be a failure, but the football and entertainment been superb, we play some really good stuff and it’s very offensively minded - played a massive part in our increased attendances.

If the contract does not have a set fee I’m sure Barrow would get a healthy six figure from Stockport.

Yep my bad.....he did indeed, great move by the club.....they realised the loyalty he shown Halifax is a strong possibility with us, will bring a few extra quid in with that.

He will end up there if trajectory improves over next couple of seasons, but not right now, that’s his fall back club if things go tits up.

Don't agree really.

He's the one holding up the deal. Undecided. I think if a bigger club, particularly up North had come for him, he would be easier to persuade.

The word now is he's turned Charlton down.

It is one those clubs you go to and think "is this it?" If they hadn't fluked a decent run under Alan Curbishley they'd just be a Leyton Orient type team. Obviously not a Spurs, Arsenal etc, not even a Millwall, QPR etc.

To be fair they have been runners up in the top division of the football league and appeared in two finals -- Winning one of them. All done before Curbishley was involved. Probably over the years on a par with Millwall.

Don't remember Appleton's Oxford side but his Blackpool side were crap, definitely not pleasing on the eye. More your slow low energy tippy tappy attempt getting bulldozed by decent Championship sides. Not sure Lincoln fans were that taken with him either. Could be a decent L2 appointment still.

Yep Wild would have 100% gone to Oldham had they not gone down when they did, he's as much said that.

Would absolutely love it to happen for him at Stockport though just so Stocky has to get on board with being fisted on a regular basis.

I can't believe Challinor is on thin ice at Stockport, done a fantastic job and kept you moving forward.
Charlton seem to be a disorganised mess of a club from the outside , proper graveyard for decent managers and Challinor seems happiest in the North west.

Challinor turning it down out of respect for Martin Pringle I've heard.

I like Charlton, probably because of the Mendonca link more than anything. Great stadium too, The Valley. Very rarely meet a Charlton fan out in real life though do you?

I always felt bad when we got gannon sacked when we won 3-1 at stockport on a tuesday night in january, though that was how the club was being ran than him, i believe that was the 2nd time he’d gone back?

Cloughs an excellent manager at this level and i’d love someone to give a case for someone better, he likes local clubs to his home burton way - so it’s hard to see how he’d move.

Fans are stupid now though, like everything else / lose a few games and all of a sudden they want him gone.

We genuinely had fans who wanted clough out in the summer, i mean ludicrous - you’d get few managers better in the lower leagues yet they think if we get rid of him we’d get someone else in better. Same goes for stockport etc.
