We have a lot of players who would probably benefit from player a more technical style of football to be honest, and it might make the most of our forward options. Jonny Williams and Lapslie have struggled to make much of an impact since joining the club, but most of the time they're watching the ball go straight past them. Nichols and Bonne are also clever players who it could benefit, so if we can get that bit right at the top end of the pitch then we'd be onto a good thing. We already know we can defend.

I don't think it'd take much for the players to be won over by a new style, but it might take the fans a while.
Watching on Saturday I was impressed by Bonne and thought he'd fit in well at Notts.

I would've thought Gillingham would've been after Barnet's manager.

Pretty obvious what the hold up with Gillingham is, they are waiting for Bradford to get somebody lined up and then a few hours before Bradford unveil him Gillingham are gonna hijack the deal by offering a few quid more.
Simples.
Just waiting for the confirmation of which travel lodge he’s in

Truth is, there are very few - if any - decent out of work managers. Just the usual roundabout lot. In Bradford’s case I’d suggest taking a punt on a young, progressive type. Should have got Williamson.

I’m sure they’d throw money at someone either way, not sure sacking harris was either such a clever move given where they were this time next year and 7th is about fair for this years expectations.

Will be interesting to see how it pans out.

The more I ponder about it the more I think we just need a right bastard to steady the ship.

A Joey Barton, Steve Evans type bastard. We’ve been a soft touch for too fucking long.

When hughes was appointed, was anyone actually that thrilled?

That’s why your cloughs or challinors work, as they understand how the league works.

you’re right in what you say though, you’re best off getting someone who knows the league well

I was, being brutally honest.

Given his connections in the game I felt it was a positive move. Forget what some of our fans say, they were all buzzing when he was announced. Hindsight’s a wonderful thing, however.

Someone who knows the league? Someone like Derek Adams. Or, how about Gary Bowyer? I could go back through years of absolute flops who ‘know the league’.

We’re a poisoned chalice.

The guy who would be the safest bet to get Bradford in the Championship is probably Steve Evans but it’s not gunna happen is it.

I suppose that’s a fair point back! not like you’ve not tried.

Who would be the desired choice if you had to pick

I would have thought the Barrow manager, Pete Wild, would be Bradford’s best bet. He knows the league and local area as he was Halifax manager.

This might just be (mis) perception, but do managerial appointments in general seem to take much longer these days?

Our policy is usually to draw up a shortlist of twenty, lose four more, whittle it down to two, lose another two, do the first round of interviews, take a week to decide who gets another interview and after another six defeats pick someone

Having checked out of interest Strange Luke was appointed 2.5 weeks after Burchnall walked.

But that was in the close season so a little different.

Matty Etherington's referred obliquely (which unfortunately is probably all he can do) to his time at Crawley. Colchester Gazette put it behind a paywall, but it sounds as though their 'story' is just a rehash of what he said to BBC Essex. Can't be bothered to transcribe all of it, but;
It was a unique experience, and the foundations of this football club (Colchester) are a million miles away from that. There's good people here, so that gives me reassurance.

At this point, I’ve absolutely no idea.

On paper the Cowley’s maybe? Dunno.

So what he is saying is that after signing for tinpot Crawley he recognised we were tinpot and decided to be tinpot as well and quit.

Good to know.

Seems Lindsey has had 2 interviews at Gillingham. I just hoping we get some good cash for him and he doesn't rip out coaching team to bits.

Our owners seem sold on the current trend for 'possession' football. Even the caretaker Millen is talking about it and warning it will take a while to implement. All points to Lindsey, I guess Luke Williams wasn't really plausible.

Lindsey is very meh, especially considering you’d have to pay compo for him
I disagree. I appreciate that it's only 10 months at Crawley, but it appears he turned around the culture, installed standards on to the players and achieved good results with players that were complete nobodies. He'd be my league 2 manager of the year by a considerable distance.
However his personality is very quiet and unexciting. When Gillingham fans (assuming the stories are true) watch his first interviews, I'm sure they'll wonder what on earth is going on. He's like the anti Phil Parkinson, at least in public. It is fun to imagine that when it's just him and the players he turns scary, but I suspect it's just the way it is.
It has to be said that things didn't work out well for him at Swindon. The fans never took to him, and I'm worried that Gills fans will go by appearances, because now he's going to have a better group of players but anybody that gives anything less than 100% will be out. maybe he learned from his mistakes at Swindon.
I don't know what the training culture is like at Gillingham, but there's at least 1 Gills player who was at Crawley under him, so hopefully the players understand what his expectations are going to be.
I don't think he's a tactical genius. I just think he knows what he wants. I think he has a type of player. They just have to be professional and give it their all.
Basically i think it would be a fantastic appointment by Gillingham.

He was always perceived as the cheap option when he was appointed - that coloured his tenure. When you interview - supposedly- for 8 weeks then announce that the assistant manager turns out to be the best man for the job after all, fans have doubts to the veracity of the process.

I found his football dull, dull, dull. Glad to see the back of him. I’d expect Gills fans expectations are very much higher than Crawley’s.

Weird one that. Unbeaten, top of the league and sacked.
