Yeah odds didn't jump up for no reason, it's pretty much done, just final details to sort out

I think Artell is a very good appointment for Grimsby, deserves another chance after doing well at Crewe

Said it before but Artell would not inspire me at all.
Incredibly underwhelming in my opinion. However, transfers and managerial appointments are seldom exciting when you're a Town fan. Will have my full support obviously, but to say I'm not enthused by this appointment is a bit of an understatement.

I think solid but unspectacular probably sums it up for me. I’ve got some concerns but you’d have that about any manager really, he’s got a decent record at this level and I’m still absolutely convinced we’re a good side. Provided he likes playing some attacking football im happy

Appointing pretty much any manager at this level will leave some fans underwhelmed. I think it will be a decent appointment based on his record at Crewe, but we will have to see if that proves to be a one off or if he can actually prove himself outside of that club.

One thing he will need is time, something most of our fans unfortunately lack is giving people time, fortunately our new owners so far do seem to be able to do that.

One thing in his favour is the last former Rotherham defender we had as manager was our most successful since Buckley!

I don't much about Artell other than he has always been a hot topic with Crewe fans and still is.

Agree that most managerial appointments at this level or below are viewed by many as underwhelming. That was certainly the case amongst many of the supporters when unknown Luke Williams was appointed at Notts and look how that's turned out.

Will he be better than Hurst, possibly.
Will the football be better to watch than under Hurst, most probably.

Not having to suffer Hurstball is a bonus for all Town fans whoever takes over as the boss.

Hope it works out as we can't be having Grimsby Town FC this low down the league.

They went both ways with Hurst on that though. Gave him time in the NL but started plotting his dismissal about 12 matches into this season, so not sure that fully holds up now.

The beauty/curse of Hurstball is that the constant low drone is punctuated with exhilarating highs. He'll deprive you of any notable attacks for two entire matches but before you know it you're going absolutely sick at a 94th minute scramble that's been bundled over the line away at someone that's about 20 points above you in the table. It's shite for the vast majority of it but the man has blessed us with some wonderful memories.

I think Artell is more of a builder than an instant improver, so I hope Grimsby fans have some patience.

I am neither overwhelmed or underwhelmed, I am just whelmed by the appointment and hope it works out for him and my team.

I think with the current owners at Grimsby they will have gone through a thorough process with the applicants ( and those they may have thought of as possibles) Whoever any club appoints is always a gamble, and most likely will end in ‘failure’ down the line. Giving yourselves the best chance of getting it right is all you can expect really

It is based on a lot more than bookies odds I can assure you
I strongly suggest you & Gladders bang your houses on Artell this morning then, because he’s just drifted to even money.

Beleaguered Grimsby snubbed by a podcaster.

He clearly has a high opinion of himself if he's turning that down. I know Hurst has wasted the FA Cup bonanza money but they are a proper club and where exactly does Artell think he's going to manage at, if not a lower League Two side?

I'm far from convinced Artell was the right man for the job and have been ever since his hat's been in the ring so I'm absolutely fine for him to walk away from this as I think we can find someone better suited to us.

Did I read that Morrison rejected the job as well?

But see it from David's side. It's the rule of 3 Sure he was able to claim that he'd turned down the Bradford City and Morecambe jobs last week, but three just sounds better. Turning down 3 jobs a week enhances your reputation. If you say, 'I turned down the City and Morecambe jobs' everybody's just sitting around waiting for the shoe of the 3rd job to drop. 'Just the 2?' they say, doubt creeping into their expressions.

Artell didn't say he'd turned down the Bradford job, he said they'd offered it to someone else.

Depends if you believe Twitter or not. Nothing comes out of the club these days, so nobody really knows.

It’s hard to assess the truth about Artell, no idea if he turned down the TRFC job as some suggested over the summer. However, he’s not that great a catch and if true that he keeps on turning job offers down, then will end up even more out of the limelight and with less chance of another management job.

The replies to this are stupid - of course a chairman would lie if they got turned down by a manager. It’s very much expected that they would lie in that situation.
It’s not really in Stockwoods nature to come out and shut somebody down so publicly so it’s almost certainly a case that the journalist is talking bollocks.
