Can’t say I’m in favour of development/youth team managers taking over the hot seat. Many, many examples of failure. We tried Luke Williams and got relegated. Blackpool and Critchley aren’t exactly pulling up any trees.

I dont really want to defend him because of the team he is going to. He was around football since he was a kid.
Walter his dad was a jobbing manager coach around the lower lge clubs in the early 70s.
Hes managed a lot better teams than Salford...Highly respected coach ideal for Salford because i think scouting recruitment is taken out of the managers hands after all they have to many cooks already.

Clough is a 1/4 favourite right now, always the danger somebody has made up something ‘ITK’ though.

Someone in the know reckons Nigel Adkins is our first choise. Comes down to money we can offer him.

Flitcroft only played good football pre-christmas.

He’s a good coach, not sure about manager because he is a passionate bottler.
Recall you beating us 3-0 and looking fairly decent January/February time. He clearly didn’t bottle taking Bury up either. Don’t say he’s a dream appointment but there are plenty worse or less suitable in contention if the odds and rumours carry any credibility.

Now looks like the Salford job is Wellens’ if he wants it.

You can’t downplay the lure of a hobby club.

You can do much worse and better.

It’s very important to realise he’s not succeeded since Bury though, football pre-christmas was brilliant; possibly the best I’ve witnessed for Mansfield but he lost the plot in January onwards with tactics and transfer business. Just telling you what happened. Obviously the season he came in with 12 games left we were on course for automatic but ended up 8th, a utter disaster but you had to give him the benefit of doubt.

His biggest positive for me was how he made our defence the best in the league, I’m sure if you do get him he will go after Pearce once his short term deal with Solihull is finished.

I’ve always defended him on here to a certain extent, especially in regards to over emotional Swindon fans (not all of yous) because he left them mid-season!

I so hope that you’re right. To my mind, Simon Grayson would be a similar appointment to Micky Adams last time we were in this position; manager with some past success but clearly past his best. We all know how badly Adams turned out for us...

Interesting reading Bottega Don’s remarks on Graham Alexander. I don’t think that he’s on our radar, but it deconstructs the perception that Scunny were the exception to his needing significant funds to build a team.

Some of Mark Palios’ remarks suggest we might be looking at a short-term appointment, which may mean some otherwise out of reach figures like Paul Cook might be interested. No idea how credible that might be.

Rovers have a reasonably strong squad, lacking depth in certain areas and not much money. Any half competent manager should be able to keep us up, but imo it’s asking a lot to make the current squad title challengers, which is where the Chairman thinks it ought to be.

Paul Cook would be my first choice if we suddenly find ourselves looking for a new manager. Stuart McCall is coming under a lot of pressure from Bantams fans on social media.

We went down that route a couple of years ago, appointing youth team coach Michael Collins, he was completely out of his depth and lasted about 5 games. I actually felt sorry for him as he was doing a good job with the youngsters, didnt even apply for first team manager role, but was approached after quite a few of our targets turned the job down, as they saw right through our manic chairman at the time, Edin Rahic.

For the amount of players he bought we should have done a lot better. He went through keeper roulette and luckily found a young Nick Pope and even then we needed Southend to lose on the final day with us winning. Good coach, will get you playing nice football in the main but does tend to make decisions that could derail your season. Good manager for League 2, not sure about anything higher.

Edit: he is a twat though and will do odd press conferences

Swear every interview Flitcroft did after almost every game (unless his side were thrashed) involved something along the lines of "For large periods we dominated the game." and "There was a massive gulf between the two sides" even when they didn't or there wasn't. Bloke came across as a massive tool who played up for the cameras but apparently Ben Futcher his assistant was even worse?

Not the worst manager at this level mind. Teams could do a lot worse.

I don't think Flitcroft or Grayson are in the running.

It seems it will be Nigel Adkins (probably).

Flitcroft is a nice bloke, and other than the standard 1-2 players he decides he doesn’t like they all love him. Galvanise is his favourite word.

but yeah I remember a lot of fans from other clubs during our full season with him had a bizarre disdain for him, but you only ever heard good things about him generally. Futcher not so much!

Clough and Wellens would both be great appointments and no doubt get their potentially new sides going in the right direction (whilst we jealously look on stuck with McCall).

We already pinched a manager from Swindon I doubt we will try again anytime soon.

Clough has spent his managerial career recently at a traditionally non-league club in L1, maybe you should look up more stuff.

Take note too because Bolton could be the topic of discussion in here soon!
