Totally agree, although few have been giving abuse to Carol and the ones who have then have been slaughtered by the rest.

We’d not have a club if it wasn’t for her, the thought of Smurf seeing us through the pandemic doesn’t bear thinking about.

I thought we’d left the soap operas behind, as Micky said at Vale there always has to be a drama going on but now Smurf had gone the likes of busgate, robbing directors, Smurfs many headlines etc had past us and we could live a more normal existence as football fans. Seems not.

Askey has had bad luck, can’t wish Ill on him and last season was great after years of tosh. To believe again and love the club again was down to him. Had the season continued, had the referee not over turned the penalty, had it been stopped the week before or the week after and it all may have been different.

He was well backed in the summer though and had he not lost the dressing room maybe he would have turned it around. The players for me have left an awfully bad taste with their antics. You don’t down tools, that was unacceptable and feel John has been shafted there.

Michael Duff being linked with Fleetwood. Hopefully there's more to the Chris Beech rumours though (sorry Carlisle fans).

They should see my post above and LUMP ON before those moves get announced.

Funny... he was always a real stickler for discipline during his Macc spell. He really didn't stand for any messing around by the players. Must be some real bad eggs in this Vale squad for him to lose control like this.

Time for Wellens to get the boot at Salford?
It’s a tough gig and as I say to Vale fans moaning about Alexander as a good option, anyone see the class of 92 the other week and it’s a right shit show behind the scenes.

Training on a community centre where the cones get nabbed, pitch there is shit, at one point they had to ring round looking for an astroturf!

The club has grown way to quickly without the structure that’s needed for a professional outfit in place and it’s just catching up with them now when most EFL clubs have proper facilities to train and work on.

The ground is terrible too, two or three portable bogs for 1500 away fans.

Was after the Carabao games wasn't it?

Neville moaning how hard it is to find a training ground was bollocks. If Lincoln and Mansfield can do it in recent times, then Salford easily can. Interestingly in the Summer, he was saying that the infrastructure being improved and an academy system wouldn't get them promoted so that's why player recruitment is what he prioritised investing in.

Bolton getting relegated to League Two was the worst thing that happened to that club this season. Suddenly they were in competition for star players in the North West. And no one in their right mind would choose Salford over Bolton. Could easily have seen Eoin Doyle, Antoni Sarcevic etc donning a Salford strip this season rather than a Bolton one.

The bogs are a disgrace. Gary Neville is essentially playing Football Manager with a non league afterthought in the football league. I'll give Andy Pilley at Fleetwood credit, he at least invested in training facilities to improve the football club and entice young players to sign for them. Salford have no clear plan bar signing mercenaries in an attempt to get to the Championship. They might make it to League One but I can't see them going any further. The players they sign won't have the hunger to achieve such a lofty goal that sides like Yeovil, Burton and Wycombe all did on a paupers budget in the last decade.

The cap system will hopefully make it harder for Salford too.

Fleetwood is a good set up, decent facilities, the club bar area is good (not many grounds with TVs in the loo!)

Salford is essentially all about the squad but zero structure and that can’t sustain. With the cap players seeing those facilities may well go elsewhere.

Scottish Sun reporting that we had permission to speak to Derek Adams but for whatever reason we haven't managed to convince him. Personally, I'm happy with that, never liked him or his football.

Agree with the earlier posts r.e. Salford.

I think they'll settle as a L2 Club for a while. At the levels they've come from, players were only interested in the money and facilities were an afterthought.

I can't believe that they've allowed themselves to get into a situation where they train on an open field with no changing facilities or anything given the money they have. Over the next two or three years as the salary cap squeezes more and more, they're the sort of things players will need rather than relying on inflated wages.

We went down that route with Bowyer last year, i.e. abysmal football but decent results and it ended in disaster. I hope we're not silly enough to go down that route again.

I’d take dismal! I’m fed up of 4-3 defeats with a rare 6-3 win!

Everything is okay when you're winning games because the end justifies the means. But go on a bad run and the situation is heightened because of the god awful style that is being out out.

Stats look meh. No thanks

Firstly let’s remember it’s Port Vale, a struggling team in L2.

I’m not saying Murray is the best choice available, but he signed several really good L2 players on a mid-table budget at Mansfield, Mal Benning, Danny Rose, Krystan Pearce, come to mind. He got sacked due to being way too negative but it was his first shot at management, and if he’s learned from that experience I think he could be a good manager.

If you can get Nigel Clough and Grimsby can get Hurst I would want someone more experienced with a better record.

We have great owners, good backing now, a decent squad on paper (all be it old) and it’s a decent long term project I’d say with those things in mind. Since having Sir John Rudge for 15-16 years or whatever it was and then Brian Horton for 4-5 years we’ve got through way too many manager. No shock our main success was when Micky Adams was in for 4.5 out of 5 years. We’ve lacked stability at both board room level and managers and now have the board we want we need to get this right.

We’ve said we want someone with the owners mindset, community spirit and a long term vision so will see what happens! Just please not Frank Sinclair!

I definitely think you can do better but just looking at his ‘stats’ doesn’t even tell half the picture, the quality he brought in is so good that Steve Evans, and Flitcroft core was still based on signings made by Adam Murray.

Just had a quick look at the odds, Alexander would be a fair shout, he’s a bit unfairly rated on here IMO and would definitely improve you, other than that though Murray looks okay compared to other potential options (Heskey, Sinclair) After Alexander and Murray the next best option might be Flitcroft.

You might go and poach somebody from a club yet!

The benefit of a quality training ground is not to be taken lightly, Salford have genuine discontent within the squad because of the shambles behind the scenes.

I wonder if they are planning something? Grants are available, think we got half a million from the Premier League to help build our new training ground. Think ours cost £2m at time of opening, with more plans to expand it.

Parky’s a L1 manager, like Cook, Cowley, Lowe... we can fantasise that they’d drop to our level but there’s not a chance they will.
If Cowley's on that list, then we've managed to bag ourselves a L1 manager in Hursty.

Are Cowleys really that out of range? Granted they did excellent with Lincoln but not much elsewhere and unemployed.

Our chances on that would be unlikely granted but they did say they wanted a community club so those 170k branded (tm) meals during lockdown might seal the deal!

Well, apart from also Braintree, Concord and keeping Huddersfield up, effectively getting a mid-table finish with them (if you take into account points total from when they joined).

They were on £1.5m a year at Huddersfield, so I suspect they're not in a rush to get back in given their compensation as well. They'll be sniffing around a Sunderland (applied, very nearly got it), Ipswich, Portsmouth kinda size Club at the minute.

Agreed. As I've said before, we had Green, Arnold and O'Connor go over there at different points and all three made noises about how poor the facilities are and how unprofessional it is. I think they've been caught out by it all and assumed money would be the main driver behind signings but it's not *as* big a deal as they probably thought at this level.

We couldn't get grants on ours because it's a private training ground (£1.6m I think it ended up as), they're only available for community buildings, although we have got £1m as part of the Stacey West expansion/4G replacement project.

It’s a local community centre they use. I don’t know much about training facilities most clubs at this level have but surely most of us have our own dedicated training ground?

Ours is actually at Vale Park behind the stand opposite the away end for example so use the stadium dressing rooms and have a gym in the stand etc.
