Two managers you'd expect to see back down here at some point in the next 12 months.

To be fair Curle is someone who clubs particularly in this division should definitely be interested in. Let’s be honest the style of football he used at Northampton was rather primitive but he did get them promoted (slightly fortunately the way the season ended) and that counts for a lot. I think he’ll be back in work before long.

Keith Curle is good for coming in and getting struggling teams out of the shit as he did with us and then building a steady team. However moving forward he's no good with his turgid style which can be effective when playing away, but he'd get us playing like that at home too and it was horrible to watch us play for a draw at home against a shit team.

He still remains one of our better managers though in my opinion and he left on decent terms.

Curle has been harshly treated I feel. Let’s be honest Northampton were probably the worst side ever to get promoted considering they were nose diving and had all the top sides to play when it was called off.

The aerial bombardment we took away to them with the storm mind was something to behold, our defence was superb that day to get the win.

In terms of Vale, Lee Carsley is in the running now, England U20 boss and looks a decent option.

More worried though that Cauldwell has come from nowhere to 3/1!

I can understand that for him to get sacked after getting them up is harsh, but like I said his style of football is shit to watch and if they're not getting the results either then it's time for a change.

Bolton could do with him as their manager right now ha ha.

Lee Carsley how heavy favourite with the bookies.

Personally would be delighted with that appointment.

Alex Morris second favourite who’s the Crewe youth boss.

Sounds like you're getting your wish

Gone straight in as second favourite for our job now. Apparently it’s an EFL job but not Rovers.

Cant see why he’d come here especially if he has to work as a head coach rather than a full control.

Maybe Northampton more likely

That is erm surprising. Pleasantly surprised I should say.

The club for once did well to keep this quiet given not one of the “ITK” types mentioned this.

Surprised! He’s took 6 points off us and seen us twice at our very worst! Errors galore to lose 3-1 and bottling a 2-0 and 3-2 lead to lose 4-3.

Great record at Rovers and Salisbury... mixed at Walsall. Nice to see us take a manager from another EFL club.

Decent manager at Rovers until the last few months when everything that could go wrong went wrong. Daryl was an inspiration when he came into the club and was exactly what we needed in the National league. Did brilliant in the 4th division but was really helped by Lennie Lawrence ( DOF).It was when Lawrence went that things started to go pear shape. His biggest problem was in the 2nd season in the Third. That he could not improve the team because of a lack of knowledgment regarding players. And just before he left he started to change the team every game even if we won the last one. I remember going to Charlton and he basically put out half a reserve team. None ofthe fans could believe it. But on the whole he was good for our club and i wish him well.

Be interesting to see how he does now he was a director of football again (David Flitcroft).

We’ve actually paid a club for their manager for once and I’d have taken either Flitcroft or Clarke so to have both is very pleasing!

I think Clarke was harshly treated at Walsall, by the club and fans, and in my opinion he’s twice the manager Flitcroft is so this is a really bizarre set-up.

Good luck predicting how this goes.

what the fuck

total surprise at poaching a manager, my gut instinct is that this is a more than decent appointment. the flitcroft DOF factor is a massive unknown but on paper, the club has gone out and spent some wedge here and so I have to applaud carol's bravery.

Before Clough we poached Flitcroft from Swindon in L2, and Coughlan from Bristol Rovers in L1 and neither worked. Luckily we got £250,000 for Steve Evans move to Peterborough to make up for it.

Certainly be interesting to see how it works out. One thing in its favour is we appointed the DOF first and this is his choice so it's not something we've imposed on Clarke which is where the problems could really start.

I'm happy we've finally got this sorted anyway, think it was approaching 6 weeks since JA left the club. Gives him a chance to look at the squad before the work really starts in the summer.

Very happy with that appointment. I was expecting someone with very little experience etc after we appointed Flitcroft as DOF. So to get Flitcroft and Clarke is pretty impressive. Both are arguably better managers than Askey.

Time will tell if it works. However, we’ve certainly pushed the boat out managerial wise.

I think we’ve done ok here overall, bit of a shock and left field but that’s who Flitcroft wanted and pleasing we’ve for once been able to finance poaching a manager away. Shows the investment is there as neither him nor Flitcroft would be cheap appointments (that we’ve been used to), was a rumour Askey was offered 35k a year under previous regimes!

It’s a set up designed now for the long term with Flitcroft in charge of transfers and building the football structure and Clarke the coaching side with Pughy. Assume big Frank Sinclair will continue working with the kids to try and link the youth to first team and hopefully in coming years we will see that come through now.

I would like to see us give the development squad a go again as that worked well before and gave us Hugill who obviously saw us make nearly £2 million quid (well Smurfs arse pocket but still under Carol it would have gone into the club).

We’ve got the best owners (300k meals now) and good now the football side of the club is being addressed, spine of the team thats failed to deliver is getting old so will be a fairly big rebuild required so aim to stay up and build again this summer.

Vale have never won a game when facing a side managed by darell Clarke.

He has had promotions at Salisbury in non league, 2 promotions at Bristol rovers and done a steady job at Walsall in mid table so looks a decent appointment to.

Having flitcroft as director of football aswell means we have 2 managers at the club who have had success at this level in the past.

The only down side is they have alot of work to do as they will still have to sort this crap defence out, get rid of the older places and get rid of some of the deadwood. I would say it would take 3 years for us to be challenging for promotion from this league. Finish about 18th this season, then around 12th and then push for promotion after that.

We’ve massively under achieved this year well below expectations so I’m not sure he will get patience and fans will want a go next season if we stay up.

It’s been a huge failure but the investment is there so we have to be doing much better for that investment and I’m sure money will be spent this summer in getting it right.

Looks like it won’t be Salford/Mansfield type money spending that you’ve seen in recent years but longer term investment such as that on Rodney and Taylor, can we keep Conlon which is going to be a huge challenge? Conlon is as good as most midfielders at this level certainly form wise in recent months.

Got some players to build around if we can, Conlon, Taylor, Rodney, Gibbons, Smith (despite a poor few months we know he’s got the quality) and obvious Wozza is under contract next season. Losing Gibbo has been a blow but there’s still a decent core there to build around. Rodney is looking a top investment for instance, we know Jake has ability so can we get rid of the dross like Mills, Crookes, Shitehead and maybe look at the regularly injured like Cullen and sad to say Manny and build around the others.

Our first XI is very capable at this level, sadly through sheer amount of injuries and covid it’s been decimated this season but still bodes that there is something there for these guys to build around.

With the money spent we need to see a return on investment and floating around the bottom half of league two with relegation battles is nowhere near acceptable.

God for a moment today I thought he was coming back. I know they say never go back, but fucking hell I was in dream land.

Best manager of my life time, no one comes close. Didn’t set the world alight at Walsall tbf but this is a good appointment for Vale.

With a DoF helping with signings (is he any good?) I’d expect DC to do well. His NL knowledge is/was superb, as was his L2. At L1 though he sadly didn’t have the contact book to really kick us on further.

Good luck Vale, I’ll be following your results every week

No idea if the DOF is any good as only been a role for a week but Flitcroft has a decent CV at this level so hopefully
