I genuinely don't know, but has any struggling team who has made more than one managerial change in a season actually managed to stay up?

Off the top of my head I can think of ourselves (14/15) and Watford (19/20) who both went down after multiple changes. Notts did as well in 18/19.
we do have continuity though - Rob Kelly who has been here all season has got the job until the end of the season. And we got 7 points from the 4 games where he was caretaker between Dunn and Jolley.

If Kelly was doing well previously then why did they bother appointing Jolley? It's not like he was ever a renowned manager. Same with Dunn.

Jolley actually did a great job here in those 10 games to keep us up and by the last 3 or 4 had us playing really good football too, but then the next season after an ok start the football was turgid, just ask any Cambridge fans who witnessed our 0-0 draw there when we played something like a 9-1-0 formation.

Barrow will go on a run now, new manager bounce and all that.

Well it sounds like he didn't have a chance to bring in nine new players at your place. Presumably his recruitment was dire there too?

Strangely enough the spell we had after Dunn left and Jolley hadn't yet put his footprint on the side was the only time we looked like a cohesive unit this season, beating Cheltenham 3-0 and Vale away, with a decent point against a Tranmere side coming into form. Unfortunately, Jolley's fucked off a few of those players that were part of that.

At the same time, not sure what some of these new players will be thinking considering Jolley brought them in four weeks ago.

If they're any good, they'll already have realised that Jolley was a massive fraud and the only thing that will save their careers now is to roll up their sleeves and dig in.
A few of them might even excel if they are picked in their proper position and not changing their role three times a match.

If that game against Cambridge was proper Jolley tactics masterclass then the I bet one in midfield was a goalkeeper.

The last few games we've lined up with 6 out and out defenders on the pitch, not what you want to see when trying to win games.

I would say the game we were most attack minded was against Chelsea, and as that went so well :bl: maybe it clouded his judgement a bit.

From the outside looking in we are a laughing stock at the moment, but everything about it suggested the board had no choice.

The post match interview with Quigley suggested that he'd lost all faith in whatever ideas Jolley had. It's been some time since I'd ever seen a player so downbeat before, and he's one that will be giving it his all.

From the outside looking in, that’s a ridiculous decision from Barrow.

Jolley gone;-

Funny how things go. I thought it was a decent appointment and a lot of the Grimsby fans seemed to think so too, but there's no accounting for what actually happens once the manager is in the job... sometimes it all goes horribly wrong, as it seems to have done for Jolley.

A bit of a shambles from Barrow's perspective though given the backing they gave him in the transfer window.

Couldn’t Barrow of put Jolley on furlough whilst they brought someone else in?

I think Jolley's the root cause of the furlough thing ever coming into being. Dunn's recruitment wasn't great and he wasn't inspiring whatsoever, but Kelly proved you could get a team out of them capable of staying up, as proven by the results he got, which is all that mattered really. Although it didn't seem it at the time, looking back all we really needed were two or three more additions in places we lacked a bit of strength, rather than wholesale changes. If we'd only brought in Devitt, Banks (although he's looked shite so far) and Ndjoli, I think must of us would have been content.

We've signed a whole new defence who seemingly don't know each other, and replaced the ones that were starting to look solid over Christmas.

But we are an odd club!

We also went up with 4 managers in a season albeit one was ill and another was a caretaker.

Even this season we've onto number 2 and if some fans had their way he'd gone few weeks ago too.

Sounds like they have got worse and worse but then is a new manager going to really improve things greatly?

Bit of a crapshoot all round it would seem. The one thing that both stattos and people who had watched them play seemed to agree on with Barrow was that they weren't a bad side. So a few eyebrows raised when Duff was sacked but then again it is a results game, but I didn't realise they'd replaced so many of that team that people were quite complimentary about. Seems silly.

Jolley presumably was too quick to write off players who were already there when he arrived and didn't take the time to take stock of what he had and what he needed. Instead just jumped straight into trying to build a whole new team.

We had four managers when we were relegated in 2003. Cornforth, McNab, Peters and Dolan. Though Dolan was only a caretaker at that time.

Not enough money to pay players, so put them on furlough, but enough to sack a manager.
Ok then

Banks is the last player you want in a defensive set up. Not his game.

It looked like Barrow had brought some decent players in, so surprised that it's all gone quite so badly wrong. Agree with Robshep about Banks, he's the kind of player to use in home games, where he has a killer pass and the occasional thunderbolt or maybe coming off the bench away, but can't tackle to save his life.

Yet he's been the anchor man... baffling.

We signed "the best left back in League One" in Donohue... and picked him centre midfield, right back Brad Barry was playing up front for a bit of the game yesterday, and when we were chasing an injury time equaliser, winger Josh Kay was stood in the centre back position.

There's putting square pegs in round holes, and then there's chucking all the pegs up in the air and seeing where they land.

Jolley himself was quite complimentary about those players when he watched them win two games in a row. And then promptly froze them out of the squad. As well as the tactics, the poor signings and the confusing substitutions, it looks like he also pissed off half the squad and the assistant manager too.

Just a disaster all-round, and it's telling that not a single Barrow fan seems to have any qualms about his sacking.

Watched the interviews and highlights. Sounded like Jolley screaming abuse after the 1st Morecambe goal. Not a good way to inspire your players. Quigley looks and sounds deflated.

Perhaps Jolley realised he needed to bring some players back off furlough but they wouldn't play for him so the board decided they'd rather bring in a new manager and have a full squad available for selection.

We have two slots available according to the EFL's squad doc. I would bring Hird and Jason Taylor back, but dunno if we are allowed to do that.

The maybe some truth in that Evatt did exactly the same. He completly overlooked the players that were left at the club. Hence why we were awful for the first two months of the season.....that and the crazy system he played
