Their name just irritates me, irrationally of course. The analytics thing is interesting, that's something we are looking to do more with. I guess everyone wants to be Brentford these days!
Analytics are fine, a lot of clubs employ an analyst of some description (we do too), what would worry me if I were a Crawley fan though is the top-down nature of it. WAGMI, a company that probably fancy themselves as being gods of all things data so I can't see Betsy being able to go out and hire an analyst he prefers to work with, or even being able to make his own calls on how to interpret the data; I can see it being more a case of someone with close ties to WAGMI being imposed on him and him being expected to implement their recommendations without question. I'm sure Betsy is used to all this as I think it's heavily used in the top academy set-ups and it will probably have been top down there too, but whether he can work with it when he also has to make the important calls on the team and when the people appointing the analysts aren't football people like Arsenal's academy bosses are.

Charlton are mad. Paying for the guy and giving him a 3 year deal

You said the same when we appointed him and it seemed to go OK. I think given where we were at the start of the season he did a pretty good job. It wasn't perfect by any stretch but the improvement in a lot of our players come the season end shows that his coaching technique certainly had merit.

Charlton is a step up and he's obviously confident in his abilities. He's been a failure in his first job and turned it around in his second so good luck to the guy.

Am I right in thinking you guys were under an embargo too or have I made that up?

Indeed we were, along with Oldham and Scunthorpe, who got relegated. How we managed to entice players like Louis Reed and Jonny Williams under embargo perhaps suggests some creativity.

Then I’d say he did very well. I’m sure you know already but we were under one last season too (out of it now), so the majority of embargoed teams were relegated in comparison.

Sometimes that can work for you as well as players are on one year deals and are kept on their toes to perform, rather than someone like Zain Westbrooke who Garner signed and we are STILL stuck with for another season.
Hopefully Charlton will now take him off our hands.
Darrell Clarke found success by getting players on shorter contracts (with other incentives written in). Lets see how Garner motivates big earners on 3-4 year deals at Charlton.

Garner did say he made plenty of mistakes at Rovers and seems to have learned from them. This job is his biggest and it will be interesting to see how he gets on for sure.

The bitterness inside me wants him to fail as he is the reason we ended up in L2 last season. I have to admit he can talk the talk, although his constant excuses after games can be tiresome

Thank god he's gone. Or a more accurate rephrase "thank god it's sorted".

I imagine his successor won't be too far away. Then we can look at incomings.

That's completely understandable, his spell with you was shambolic. And I agree on your last point, I couldn't stand the stupid moaning about referees and decisions, came across really poorly moaning about Port Vale not watering their pitch also, which is 100% their remit.

Yeah absolutely. Apparently we won't be hanging around so it will be interesting to see. Ryan Mason is bookies favourite for whatever that is worth.

Like you said he did a fair job at Swindon especially considering the position the club were in when he joined. But the biggest mistake at Rovers was Rovers mistake in actually employing him in the first instant.

I wonder if they’ll go for Jack Payne I recon the lad could still do a job in league 1.

Stockport fans, what happened with Simon Rusk? Him and Andrew Crofts are now favourites for our job.

Rusk is pound for pound the worst manager in our history in my opinion and we've had many a shit manager during our well documented tumble down to Non League.

If he gets the Swindon job I can only send my condolences. Wouldn't even be funny. Actually depressing how he could fail upwards ala Burchnall when there are some great coaches in the game kicking their heels.

Isn't his name Sebastian?

This man must have shady football connections. Gets Stockport with a budget equivalent to the GDP of China to 11th place, goes and relegates Dundee then gets the Swindon gig. Some shocking stuff on the forums today.

Messrs Rusk, Burchnall and Jolley may not be good managers, but at least have had the good grace not to chat bollocks incessantly on local radio, unlike "Former Rochdale Manager Steve Eyre" on Radio Manchester (aka "Radio Bolton" since the partiality of most of the presenters towards Wanderers makes Masi51 of this parish look sane and reasonable).

Avoid at all costs.

You’d have to be utterly mental to give him the job.

This is all Deja Vu from when Garner got appointed. I did notice he had a 50% win percentage but I guess that's distorted given what was a top 2 budget I assume? Can't say I'm keen given the Stockport fans feedback and I think he's just been given a coaching role with the national side so perhaps there is nothing in it, unless he's coming in to be a coach under another manager?
