Isn't his name Sebastian?

This man must have shady football connections. Gets Stockport with a budget equivalent to the GDP of China to 11th place, goes and relegates Dundee then gets the Swindon gig. Some shocking stuff on the forums today.

Point of order. He hasn't got the job yet, its still conjecture at this stage.

Crofts was arguably Flynn's worst signing for us in terms of what we got vs what we thought we were getting. Never remotely fit, started 5 in the league and 4 off the bench. Three games in August followed by three months out etc etc.

Don't think we'll be bringing him in to spend any time on the pitch but appreciate the input.

Yes, he might be a great coach and Flynn did say he was good to have around. Just no use for the job we were paying him for.

Anything in the Challinor to Blackpool rumours or just a small market with a handful of bets? https://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/...rt-county-boss-rockets-up-the-betting-3723422

I'd imagine that'd amuse Hartlepool fans if it happens.
I've heard he's been sounded but a) not sure he's their first choice and b) not entirely sure Blackpool would be a good step up. There's a reason their manager has just left for an Assistant job at Aston Villa. Taken them as far as he can.

Yes Hartlepool fans will enjoy it and it's inevitable he'll move on at some point, he's the fucking bollocks I reckon. If we do well next season, there's no way we keep him longer. Difference is I will definitely wish him well when he leaves and hope he nails it.

If Blackburn were sounding him out, I'd say crack on, definitely go for it. Not sure on Blackpool. Bit more time here he could get a better offer. In my opinion.

I was a bit surprised to see he was linked tbf. Hardly managed in the EFL. But clearly, he's good at what he does. Blackpool are a weird one. I'd argue that historically top end 3rd tier - mid 2nd tier is their level. And they're back at that. But history doesn't count for owt I suppose. The championship playoff race is competitive and their owner is minted. Before Oyston sucked the life out of the club they probably could've been a bit of a yoyo side for the prem if run properly. So there is potential there, I'd say.
I'd imagine if you have a good season (fully expect County to be top 7 next season) then he'll be picked up by someone else fairly quickly and it'd be a good move for him. I know Stott has a lot of money himself and the mood is good in SK3 but in the short-to-midterm, I can't see County being able to do much more than what Rotherham, Wycombe etc have done for the last few years. Top-end league one, maybe the odd flirt with the championship.

Yeah I agree on the whole, that's what I mean about if he got offered a Blackburn/Preston esque job even I'd tell him to crack on and say of course you take it.

Just don't get the same vibes from Blackpool. I would say they're third tier fayre. That one PL season seems to have inflated them beyond what they actually have been in my eyes.

They went up to the Championship again, but like I say that Critchley has got them up, kept them up and obviously doesn't think there's much else he can do there. I don't see the same basket case clubs in the Championship next season, I'd be surprised if they're not in a relegation battle next season no matter who is in charge.

If he's offered and he fancies it, I'd wish him well.

Funnily enough, Ian Evatt was mentioned and I was actually more concerned that if Evatt went Blackpool than Bolton would be more Challinor.

But Evatt sounds like he's thinking along my lines as he's basically ruled it out by more or less saying he'd rather try and do a League One promotion push with a bigger club like Bolton than do a relegation gig in the Championship at a smaller club in Blackpool.

I wonder if our board are trying to find the worst candidates they can, seemed to work with Garner and now hoping to polish the turd a second time!
Well Mark Mcghee is looking for a job.

This is all Deja Vu from when Garner got appointed. I did notice he had a 50% win percentage but I guess that's distorted given what was a top 2 budget I assume? Can't say I'm keen given the Stockport fans feedback and I think he's just been given a coaching role with the national side so perhaps there is nothing in it, unless he's coming in to be a coach under another manager?
Yeah his first season we did okay. There were no crowds which helped him a lot I think as it was no different to managing an U23 team
and the matches themselves had less intensity. Saying that it was so boring to watch and we won very few games against the better teams in the league. We then went out incredibly meekly to Hartlepool in the playoffs.

The summer recruitment from him and the DOF was absolutely terrible and we ended up starting the first game of the season with multiple players out of position/uncomfortable in their roles. His interviews were the most unconvincing I’ve ever seen from a manager it was obvious he was completely out of his depth and there didn’t seem to be any kind of game plan.

So many players who looked nowhere near good enough under Rusk were so much better under Challinor straight away and players who looked unfit and immobile turned into pressing machines within weeks.

I’m sure Rusk will brag about his 50 per cent record win record and say how unlucky he was to be sacked but his record in front of crowds in the league was W6 D4 L7 and that’s more of a barometer that reflects his time in charge for me.

If you avoid him and get Crofts let’s hope you have more luck with your Brighton U23 manager.

He worked wonders with Featherstone,a plump, plodding, slow midfielder.
A player I'd have got first out of the door,to who i thought had a shout for Player of the Year.

Pools under DC reminded of a group of army ants, swarming over the opposition & battering them into submission.
It was great to watch & he is destined for better things than league two.

He did, he really pushed on most players, the only exceptions being Odusina and Tom Crawford, both of them never got a consistent run and it was only when he left that especially Odusina really improved.

Odd about Simon Rusk. His reputation when he was at Brighton u23s went into the stratosphere. Best young English coach, top six job waiting once he got some experience. All that sort of stuff but his first job goes pear shaped and his rubbish from then on in.

Same a bit for Tidsdale. At Exeter he was the bees knees a couple of failures later he would be lucky to get a job I the pie shop.

Bloody harsh being a football manager.

Yep it was actually our midfield that he transformed the most as well.

Croasdale, Collar and Rooney off the ball looked a terrible, slow, immobile, overweight, passive trio and I presumed we never pressed under Rusk because they and the rest of the team couldn’t.

Enter Challinor and Sarcevic who had joined a few weeks or so earlier but had also shown no signs of life under Rusk and our midfield was utterly transformed. Rooney was seen as a lost cause who couldn’t do the off the ball stuff DC wanted so dropped to the bench but the other three despite being slow and not particularly athletic became the best midfield in the league and got through so much work it was frightening.

Where did this reputation come from in the first place?

Not only were we an unimaginative and dull team with no plan or identity he also didn’t improve any of our younger players either.

Micky Mellon featuring quite highly in the odds for Blackpool manager at one point, though not mentioned in the local paper article Salvador posts above.

I’d think it unlikely. MM didn’t enhance his reputation with the season at Dundee Utd, then a disappointing first year back at Rovers.

Former Forest Green boss Mark Cooper could be set for a sensational return to Swindon Town.

Cooper is in the running, according to the bookies, pricing him at 16-1 to replace Ben Garner who quit to join Charlton Athletic this week, with former Forest Green assistant manager Scott Lindsey also expected to make the switch to The Valley.

Cooper is now being tipped for a second stint at the League Two outfit, where he steered Town to fourth place in League One in 2015 after beating Sheffield United in the play-off semi-finals they lost out to Preston in the final.

Cooper was dismissed by Barrow after joining the Bluebirds last summer.

More chance that di Canio returns. Fans wouldn’t tolerate him again.

Michael Carrick has swiftly become the odds on fav with the bookies.

Swindon's biggest loss could be Scott Lindsey.
He did good when with FGR & Swindon. FGR might have been promoted a year earlier if he had not had to take time away from football for personal reasons.
