After watching Hartlepool at our place a few weeks back, I thought it was inevitable Hartley would go, to me it looked like the players didn't believe in what he was trying to implement.

I don't think Graham Alexander would go there tbh, Curle and West could probably be the best shout. Local job for our old striker Colin West as he's from the North East.

Intruiged to see what Colchester decide to do, because they've just had the same people rotate jobs there for a few years, apart from when Hayden Mullians came in. Steve Ball will now probably take the team 18 months after being sacked and Wayne Brown will stay on as an analyst or something. Might even give Paul Tisdale one final throw of the dice after he was there briefly 18 months ago.

If only we had an outsider already in the door this summer with Football League managerial experience... Ross Embleton.

It's a really big appointment now though. Brown has been backed, the chairman has said it is a top 10 budget and it is very out of character for him to pull the trigger so early, so he must have more expectation this season/be genuinely concerned about relegation. If we were to drop, his heavily-invested academy project would be dead so it isn't something he can really afford to take chances with.

The whole club needs such a huge shake up on the footballing side, bin off the old faces who have been rotating for years and let a new guy come in with his own backroom team and take full control of that whole side of the club. There can be a healthy budget available for the right group to take the club on again but the general depression and malaise is so deep-rooted and ingrained throughout the club now that it's difficult to see a way back.

I went yesterday having only bothered a handful of times since the first covid lockdown, and I won't be back in a hurry. It really is an awful way to waste a few hours.

Yeah Curle would keep you up. And look what he went on to do after he kept Northampton up.

You could do a lot worse.

What is the general feeling on Curle among Carlisle fans?
He was liked by the majority and still is.

He was a bit of a weirdo at times, but once you get past that he’s a decent manager. Really got us out of the shit one season, sorted out a toxic dressing room that was heading for successive relegations, fucked off layabouts like Paynter (I know he did well for you) and brought in harder working players and better characters.

The football at times can be direct, but also can be very attacking. In his second season he adopted a 3-3-4 formation that resulted in plenty of 4-4 draws and 4-3 wins. It was crazy. But then on the flip side he can set up a team to defend for its life when it has to. Fell at the final hurdle in his third season by losing in the playoffs, but he left us in a lot better shape than what he took over.

If he did get the pools job, expect Gary Liddle to return. Well maybe not, but he does love him.

To be fair initially when I heard the name thrown into the mix I was apprehensive, but I’ve seen quite a few opinions like yours.

If true it’s not a glamorous one, but might be what our squad needs to whip this pack of Fanny’s into shape.

Have to wait and see I suppose

You guys are a Club that have baffled me for the last few years. I can half understand your Chairman wanting to go down the youth academy route but it's something that sounds good in practise but isn't really too feasible. Then there's the managerial appointments, which have seemed internal/cheap options for a few years now and have nearly caught up with you a couple of times.

I have mixed feelings about him.

He's been one of our better managers in recent times and he comes across as an actual manager.
For the situation you're in it's a good appointment because he knows how to get results and can bring a good sense of pride and commitment to a team which should be enough to get you out of trouble.
However, his style of football can be very turgid at times where he will settle for a 1-1 draw at home against a poor side where really he should be going for the win and some of his interviews can be quite repetitive.

But overall he's alright for a crap (Like yourselves) or average L2 club.

Appointment of Curle seems reasonable, but what’s with the interim bit?

I imagine it’s just Raj’s way of getting him in to see if he shows some Carlisle/Northampton form and turns it round, and if he does then be offered a permanent substantial contract. However, If he shows some Oldham form from last season can get rid on the cheap without having to pay him off.

Curle’s football is obviously not the best but he’ll tighten you up for sure. If the aim for you lot is to stay up at all costs he’s a good appointment for that.

I think when he came in we were 17th and looking a shambles and then he arrived. Obviously then went on to get us promoted in the lockdown season.

One thing that did annoy me was his stuttering interviews so look out for them Poolies. ‘We we we we have to earn the right to play…’

Ha ha ha, that was his motto with us too 'Earn the right to play, then we go play'.

His interviews did get very tedious, but still a decent manager for this level, as for his failure at Oldham well I'd put that down to the huge mess their club was in.

There'll certainly be some difficult interviews ahead if Curle's inherited a poor squad and this season is just about keeping you up. I hope your local BBC reporter has a sense of humour.

Once survival is achieved though and he can start a season he generally gets his sides up into the top half even if he does have a reputation for falling at the final hurdle so Pools probably the ideal club for him as after the last few seasons I'm sure you'd be delighted to have one where you finish 10th with an outside shot of playoffs

To be honest his interviews can be as tedious as they want and will be an improvement on Hartley’s miserable arrogant short answers.

As was stated above.. to be honest with this squad survival is definitely the goal so happy with the appointment regardless of the style of football. It’s been turgid to watch so far and we haven’t won a game, so I’d take more shite football but picking up some points.

Good thing about the “interim” is that he could do his job and keep us up, whilst giving us time to find a more suitable candidate long term, but that would require shit for brains to be a competent owner so not getting ahead of myself

We had him for 4 seasons so he can hold a job, but in the end he just wasn't adventurous enough to get us promoted but still left on good terms. So if he can keep you up and consolidate you in mid table then he's got you as far as he can, but if you ever have the ambition of being a competitive promotion chasing team then he's not the man.

Well Northampton fans may tell you differently.

We could have gone up that 15/16 season, but our board saw it so weakened the squad accordingly in the January to make sure it didn’t happen.

You mean the 16/17 season? Yes if Charlie Wyke hadn't been sold then I have no doubt we would have gone up, but as for Northampton it wasn't a proper promotion in my view with it being the Covid season but still counts I suppose.

Anyway, it's good to see him back in management again.
