confirmed as a 5 year deal in his post match interview - it's a long deal for any manager - but gives the club some protection when the "bigger" clubs start sniffing around which they will do if we have a good season.
Need to protect their assets, best manager they have had in ohhh 3 years

You mean the 16/17 season? Yes if Charlie Wyke hadn't been sold then I have no doubt we would have gone up, but as for Northampton it wasn't a proper promotion in my view with it being the Covid season but still counts I suppose.

Anyway, it's good to see him back in management again.
Yeah I mean the 16/17 season.

Some suggestions of Luke Garrard, current Boreham Wood boss going to Colchester. Thought he might have done better there in the league, didn’t really advance after the play-off defeat to Rovers, despite steady funding.

His sides always seem to have a load of attacking talent yet they were always such a low scoring side, on a cushy number down there, seemingly zero pressure from his banana's chairman and their 250 fans.

Yep, the football they played last season was so utterly negative. They were in a title race half through the season and then they got distracted by their cup run and their league from suffered. We didn't play them for the first time until mid-March and it was a big playoff match but they just played for a 0-0, which they got but it was unfathomably absurd how little they attacked a playoff rival at home. They then did the same on the penultimate match of the season and we managed to beat them 1-0. I think they might have been out of the race by then, but their slide down the table in the second half of the season seemed to be completely of their own doing. Odd tactics, odd club. I like Garrard as a person, always interviews well but his football is so dull and hampered Borehamwood's progress last season. I don't really get what they were trying to do, because it seemed like they were pressing the self destruct button in the most mundane way possible.

After watching Hartlepool at our place a few weeks back, I thought it was inevitable Hartley would go, to me it looked like the players didn't believe in what he was trying to implement.

I don't think Graham Alexander would go there tbh, Curle and West could probably be the best shout. Local job for our old striker Colin West as he's from the North East.

Intruiged to see what Colchester decide to do, because they've just had the same people rotate jobs there for a few years, apart from when Hayden Mullians came in. Steve Ball will now probably take the team 18 months after being sacked and Wayne Brown will stay on as an analyst or something. Might even give Paul Tisdale one final throw of the dice after he was there briefly 18 months ago.
As expected Steve Ball takes the team in the Interim:

Our old Head Coach Ross Embleton assisting him. I didn't mind Ross when he was with us, a very good coach and number two, but we all knew he would ultimately never quite hack it as a number one, but the circumstances in which he took the job will always be unfortunate.

Harare won’t leave there he loves being highly-rated from the outside but having no pressure on him season after season.

No player arrives at the club without Chans say so
Not sure about that Rift, our D.O.F is very close to our owner and seems to have both a pretty free reign and also, seemingly a bulletproof shield despite many mistakes in the recruitment and a mistake when appointing Rusk (Challinor was the owners choice).

I've heard a few stories off different people that DC had targets that weren't followed up on for example.

I,d be surprised if Chan didn,t give the nod for players to be signed.
But you know the people involved far better than me.

I think he also had players in mind for us that were not signed.
The one thing about Chan i do know or think i know is players
With oversized egos he does not care for.

When he joined yous i thought it was only a matter of time till Rooney was shown the door.

The irony is Jim Gannon was exactly like that and had no real time for Rooney but was sacked by Simon Wilson (the D.O.F) and the club for "not fitting the culture". We then appoint Rusk (Wilson's mate) who was essentially a doormat. We then reverted back to Challinor to get us going again and have someone who knew the league which was obviously a success last year. Like you say, he fucked Rooney off pronto.

I think Wilson and Challinor has always been a marriage of convinience put together by the owner and told to make it work. There's not many fans I speak to that would be sad to see Wilson depart. But Wilson seems bulletproof and if there's one to go, it'll be Challinor unfortunatley. I'd give him plenty of time personally but I think with Wilson not in his corner and the ambition of the club, he really does need an upturn in form.

Speaking of ego,s(wilson) sounds like he,s full of himself.

Never ceases to amaze me, How these people get away with it.
Its thier Job(duty) to do whats best for the Club not themselves
And believe me i,ve come across more than a few.

That may show the difference between the NatLge and Lge2

No player arrives at the club without Chans say so
To be fair we lost four of our last eight games in the NL but luckily Wrexham bottled it and couldn’t take advantage.

We had the perfect tactics and squad for beating bottom half NL fodder and that’s why we won promotion.

We have one of the biggest budgets in the league but our squad is lacking in so many areas it’s a joke.

Stockport have obviously got a good budget and I know their wage expenditure will be high, but I don't really see where it's reflected in the squad - Horsfall, Camps, Madden and Sarcevic are probably the only players you'd say are genuinely very good for this level. Hussey to some extent, but then his legs are going.

I agree with you.

With the squad we've got, we're not a million miles off where you'd expect.

Budget wise we're not. Which is partly understandable as we're having to catch up to the standard of the level but we've signed some of the so called better players in the NL on good money this summer who were gambles and at the moment, gambles that arent paying off.

Our squad is light years off the likes of Bradford, Mansfield, Salford in terms of quality that has been built up over time and with knowledge of the level.

Our DOF reportedly agreed to pay Wootton 4.5k a week to beat Portsmouth to his services.

You can see how we’ve spent a big budget with very little reward can’t you?

Been saying for ages that Wootton is overrated. Notts fans wouldn't have it, you lot wouldn't have it in the summer. Bang average Conference striker. Was an obvious crap signing.

Paul Warne to Derby, Rotherham now managerless. The ripple effect being felt at Blundell Park as the inevitable Hurst rumours gather pace. Let's hope this guy is ITK...

He should stay with you IMO, done a good job, has credit in the bank and is building something up. Rotherham's Championship endeavours consist of them just poking their head up on the surface for air. Hiding to nothing and if they slip down, the new man there will get the blame.

Loads of ours weren't having it in the summer, including me. We need a quick mobile striker in this team and he offers everything but. He's good in the air but even with that he lacks a level of aggression where if did have that, you could at least say he's a battering ram who causes havoc. There's just not enough to his game to be a noteworthy striker in the Football League

Yeah, the worry is obviously that he's one of their record appearance holders so a bit of a club legend, lives in the area so no more daily commute, would have his salary tripled/quadrupled, etc. I agree though, Rotherham is a tough/nigh on impossible second tier gig. Warne has taken them up and down like a yo-yo and I'd imagine that the lure of a club like Derby having a higher ceiling potentially is what's prompted him to leave. It's probably quite naive of me but I'm hoping that Hurst being burnt by Ipswich might put him off being too hasty in taking a second stab at The Championship. He's infinitely happier here than he was when he left us before though, so I'm hoping that comes into play. I genuinely wouldn't swap him for any manager at this level or the level immediately above or below right now, I'd be gutted if he left. He'd be a bigger loss than any single player going (now that McAtee is no longer a Town player officially).

Yeah fair. He's not terrible by all means and he does hit streaks of goalscoring from so he could pull it round but his record suggests so far it's not been a great start. How's he been playing?

He's been alright at the stuff he's good at. Won flick ons, few nice touches and hold ups, looked fairly alert in the box for some first time shots, only 1 goal but to be fair I don't think I can think of a big chance he's missed so the team has to take some grief for that stat. The issue is more he's just not a particularly good player with enough attibutes to his game. I've not changed my opinion on him from watching him for Notts. So you have to blame our recruitment team for identifying him, hard to blame the player himself really.

I think Hurst would be mad to go given his history but he’s hardly done much to deny it

I think he’d be mad not to, payoffs from sackings at a higher level are pretty decent even if he does tank there (and they’ve had a good start).

How long is his contract with you guys?

Hurst seems pretty receptive to it from the quotes I've seen. Surprised but I suppose a manager can't close too many doors and I probably didn't realise how well connected he was to Rotherham.

Will they want him though? I rate him but could see why he wouldn't necessarily jump off the page from Rotherham's point of view. Without his links as a player he wouldn't really be a contender.

I think if you read our replies we didn’t go overboard in pretending he was an amazing signing.

A bang average conference targetman doesn’t score 50 goals in two and a half seasons.

I’d suggest he’s a bang average League Two targetman on double the wages he should be and without a suitable partner.

Yeah it seems like unless I’ve missed something the only people linking Hurst with the job are Grimsby fans and the only people saying he doesn’t want the job are Grimsby fans.

In reality he’s probably not top of Rotherham’s list and if he was he’d more than likely go.
