The sensible supporters among us are happy to stay up and consolidate whilst we bring everything else up to speed off the pitch. I hope Dunn is the man to do that. Those that are prematurely calling for his head are those that were suggesting we would easily be able to compete in the top half.

We lost the manager in amongst a 6 month break without competitive football so any of that momentum promoted teams usually carry over was completely lost. That's not so much the case for Harrogate, as the new season kicked off about 3 weeks after they won the playoff final.

For what it's worth, I think we need one win and a consistent run of games with our best 11 to restore a bit of confidence and belief, and I think we will have enough about us to realise a reasonable set of expectations.

you will be alright just like Harrowgate. Whatever faults Dunn has got he has attracted some deceny players to Holker Street, This year is about survival on and off the pitch

Radford is usually very willing to give managers time, but he got stung by leaving it way too late with Dempster, so I reckon GC has very little time left unless we string a few wins out of nowhere.

Looking at our six games, we actually started okay performance wise but fucked it up every time, Orient and Tranmere for example should have been wins, you could argue Stevenage and Newport too but they were even games, Exeter and Bradford we were comfortably beaten.

He’s coming across like one of those managers that doesn’t want to make the changes that are so ridiculously obvious because the fans are shouting for it. Drop Stech for Stone in net, and start Maynard and Cook who are EASILY our best two strikers and potential for one of the best partnerships in the league.

Saw Stech dropped a huge clanger for you at the weekend. Was that his only one or has he looked shaky? Guessing he has if you want him dropped.

I’m baffled by what happened to him. Looked the absolute business for half a season here and then just started chucking the ball in his own Net for some reason and has never recovered.

From what I can see early on is that several managers are under pressure already:

Evatt - Bolton
Coughlan - Mansfield
Dunn - Barrow
Kewell - Oldham
Embleton - Orient
Jackson - Tranmere (Possibly)
Purely dealing with the Tranmere situation, I don't think Mike Jackson is in immediate danger, making allowances for injuries and the Covid outbreak. However, his appointment appears to have been a relatively cheap one, in the hope he'd continue in the same vein as former boss Micky Mellon, with funds instead diverted to the team. Give him until the end of the year, but unless, we're looking in real danger of relegation don't see him going.

Perhaps in future Mark Palios will ignore his large experience in both football and business and simply ask neverendingly complaining so called supporters to do his job for him. Who they will then vent their frustration at afterwards is difficult to know since their expertise is beyond reproach. Thankfully at matches (when allowed in) the positive majority drown out the constant whining of the negative minority.

GC probably needs two wins and a draw in his next three to keep his job. He only made two subs tonight, both had no effect on the game and he left Maynard on the bench. Nut job.

He’s definitely made a better squad than Dempster last season and I’m sure we will get better, but for me it’s only a matter of time, no point sacking him untill we’ve found a decent replacement.

Looking at it from the outside how is Coughlan still in charge at Manfield. 4 wins in 26 in charge. Dempster won 7 in 28.

Looking at those stats you've gotta say bring back David Flitcroft all is forgiven.

I'm hearing unconfirmed rumours that it's win the next game or you're firrrreeeddddd!

He’s on the verge, probably needs 4 points in next two minimum.

Think we will improve under him but not enough considering the squad he has.

I think there are justifiable concerns with performances from a majority of supporters, given how he was backed in the summer.

He won't go anywhere yet and I trust Palios's judgement regarding the situation. However, if we are still in the bottom half in a month's time he will be under real pressure. Palios stated on Saturday that the ambition this season was to challenge for the title.

Can someone enlighten me with what happened with Mellon. Didn't realise he was no longer there. Must have lost track during Covid. I thought he had done a stellar job for Tranmere with 2 promotions in quick succession. I know you got relegated but you were fighting it before season was stopped. Maybe a victim of his own success?

The Tranmere appointment smacks of the John Dempster one last summer, recruited expensively but gone cheap to manage them, doesn’t make sense.

Mellon would have been retained by us regardless of relegation. He went to Dundee United, which is obviously a big club historically. Managing in the SPL also gives him a chance to attract the attention of Championship and EPL clubs if he is successful, so it was a logical move for him really.

He does need to take a more positive approach to games. Setting out to not lose isnt going to win many friends. We have enough players in the attacking part of the squad to maybe just go for it and put opposition teams on the back foot. I would prefer to see shots flying in and missing than not having a go at all. Hopefully the penny will drop and he will change. If he doesnt he will not last the season.

Not at all. Andy Parkinson (youth team coach) getting the job would have been similar. Mike Jackson was assistant manager for 4 years. Not unexperienced at working with senior players. He just needs to let the shackles off and let the team be more forward thinking. Its a bit like watching Italian football. Like most supporters i would prefer to win a crazy 4-3 than bore our way to 1-0.

If you are willing to sign highly paid players like Spearing you should get a experienced manager aswell.

I doubt he’s useless like Dempster was, but even being average isn’t enough.

He approaches games with a negative mindset i think. He is on hiding to nothing. If things arent working he will change them but gets criticised for not getting it right from the start. Instead of being called adaptable he is accused of not being able to assess the opposition properly pre game. It seems like a thankless task being a football manager. You go to work surrounded by thousands of people who all know better than you. Referees on the other hand do know less than all of us. Including Mike Dean.

In an ideal world yes, but unsure that we’d got the funds to do both. I’m not sure that Spearing is that highly paid either.

Think that’s probably just you hoping rather than thinking about it.

Horrible when you have some expensive players in a squad that’s underachieving, I know that too well, Otis Khan was of them in recent times, at least you didn’t pay a fee if he goes to pot.

His mother and father in law are regulars in the same pub as me (when allowed). I know he isnt. Not aware of what he is actually on but its a fraction of what he was getting at Bolton. That and earlier wages have made him ok financially. He also coaches the under 12s at Liverpool. Doubtful thats for free. Many still active lower league players coach at under 18 level at big clubs. Helps with getting their badges.

Probably gets a bit of a let-off for the form last season though as he took over a team who were already struggling. Similar to Chris Beech in that he was getting a bit of criticism after three heavy defeats in our first three competitive fixtures this season, if we'd continued on poor form then people would include last season's games when he took over from Pressley to argue he had a poor overall record but since we've ended up starting the season well, last season can be safely consigned to history.

Not calling you a liar by any stretch of the imagination, and I have no doubt you'll know more than me, but why would his wife's parents know what he's earning?

My wife's parents don't know what my salary is. Hell, I don't even know my brother's and sister's salaries.

Unsurprising considering their budget, maybe a Graham Alexander appointment? Coughlan just never turned it around from Dempster it seems so it’s a big job for whoever gets it to turn it around.
